If City lawyers are involved I wouldn't expect a decision until well into the next decade.

In fact given the time it is taking, I am inclined to believe that we have lodged an appeal and that is why we haven't heard anything.

You may well be right but I don't see why it can't be announced. If they've set the punishment and we've appealed why the need for secrecy?

Perhaps they keep it secret to avoid the inevitable media scrum with all its noise (seeking to influence the outcome?). Personally I’d rather they keep it private for the time being, as frustrating as it seems.

Could be ideal if we get off to a terrible start and have to replace him anyway...

Exactly. And they won't want people panicking unnecessarily if they are still hopeful of a reduced punishment.

If it contributes to a siege mentality which helps push Saints into automatic promotion places, would it be seen as a sporting advantage 🤔

Need to string it out until such time as he is no longer our manager!

I can see that if we make a bad start to the season our leaders will lose all interest in defending Tonda. The FA will probably lose all interest too…..

If the FA follow the Chelsea route then it'd be a suspended sanction in a few years time. But then it isn't Chelsea or City so the FA blazers will probably want to kick one of the smaller fry.

Has there been a run on plain brown envelopes?

They aren't going to "stuff us", they may punish the principal perpetrator of the offences.

We could have suspended him at the outset and not be grannying 2 months later.

But Tonda is most definitely worth keeping. He has it, the x factor, I am sure of it.

Xg factor. Although I'm not sure all the unbeaten games were down to Tonda and not due to opposition just being unable to score

That an incredibly odd way to look at it!

My wild unfounded musings are that over the last few days there seem to have been a few bits from Tonda, that along with him being in the stand to try that out lead me to think that the club have been told off the punishment and it is not too severe and possible a touchline ban.

I also think the reason we have not heard is we have appealed, don't think anything was released publicly about Chelsea until after the appeal.

As I say just my musings.

Well my 'The Cheats' design products are now online. But because I am geninuely not some sort of rip off, self-promotion bloke, I haven't put up the link to the page. Ironically it is Spreadshirt so they are printed and posted from Germany!

I genuinely am only making about £1 or so a product and that is covering my costs and time.

Anyone wants the link to the page let me know - if not tell me to f-off I'm sure someone will 🤣

Just post the link in the buy and sell forum....

Apart from the 5-1 win at Charlton Saints haven't been convincing in most games, too many sloppy goals let in Shef Wed, Preston etc . Most games we have 20 min chunks away to opposition.  It may have been a tactic to over pass the ball at back and risk losing the ball but dint think that's a coaching skill, more luck.

Even Doncaster wasn't convincing but if a draw is a draw and a win is a win then its cleaver management but I personally didn't think we won or drew games from our coaching decisions.

Weird how people look at things. I couldn't disagree more. I'm not going to check back individual results but we were the superior team against Wrexham, Charlton, Coventry, Arsenal, QPR, Norwich in red hot form etc. You don't go on the longest winning streak in the league and beat Arsenal to get to the FA cup semi by luck.

Thats rubbish are you saying our subs didn’t make a difference to win a game?  Thats coaching- you really think Tondas coaching didn’t improve players to get results?

You are way off here.

The Wrexham battering? The Arsenal FA cup win? Even the City FA Cup defeat I thought we were coached brilliantly, Tonda was reacting to every single move Pep made. Not sure we were watching the same team last season!

I forgot Coventry too! That’s probably the game that I knew we had a very good manager. Complete masterclass without are two best attackers that day.

Hey thanks for that - I didn't even realise it existed [proves how on the ball I am]. I geniunely don't want to pee anyone off - well you know no more than I do normally.

I'll do that - if it is like the rest of the stuff on my design site and my art and books, it'll get ignored 😂

Weston-super-Mare? My wife went to school there - La Retraite Covent School - it no longer exists but they helped her during some difficult times - she's not even religious!

I like it.  We should have had more of that when dealing with the EFL - maybe it wouldn't have been such a hatchet job on us.

Despite Will Still winning 2 in 11 with virtually the exact same squad?

Peretz made an incredible difference to the team when he came in. He organised the defence, gave it confidence and made saves. I think we were conceding the same number of shots at goal a game but the number of goals we conceded per game halved or somesuch in the stats shown before the Arsenal game. The confidence that bred made an enormous difference.

That's not to say that Tonda didn't organise the team well. We were playing really high paced attacking football which was a dream to watch for the latter stages even as we were running out of puff due to fixture pile up.

The big thing for me is we played 3 premier league teams, beat two of them and competed with the other. That's something we weren't doing before even when we were a premier league team which is why I'm ok with us taking this chance. At the start of last season we had a team of individual teapots standing with hands on hips. By the end of it we had a team that wanted to win together.

That will certainly be Steve Gibson’s argument.

I’ve read some bollocks on here in my time but the idea that Tonda isn’t a good manager is right up there.

I don’t remember a period as a Saints fan where a manager has got the best out of so many players.
He had to use practically all of the squad during that run due to fixture congestion and you’d be hard pressed to pick a single player out and say they weren’t performing.

There wasn’t a weak link.
Fellows maybe if you really had to be picky but I thought he was good at Preston and he seems to have carried that form into pre season.

That’s exceptional management.

It was also far superior in my opinion to the similar Martin run with worse players

I wasn't a fan of Tonda initially (like quite a few others) but he certainly won me round. He actually seemed to learn from mistakes he made earlier on in the season and clearly became very close with the players. You can't underestimate that.

To say we didn't win or draw games because of the manager is up there with some of the biggest shite I've seen on this forum.

I wouldn't say Martin had much worse players really. Tonda had a better GK and strikers to choose from, plus Scienza obviously but the rest of the squad was fairly evenly matched.

Both periods were thoroughly enjoyable IMO, I've no idea why anybody would want to undermine what Tonda did.

I didn't say much worse just worse in my opinion. Kwp, Adams, Bednarek and David Brooks would likely get in my starting 11. Obviously THB, Manning and Downes are the same. An interested Armstrong played in his proper position could arguably stake a claim too.

100%. We played some lovely stuff at times under Martin that season but it was very inconsistent and could be maddening.

Have to disagree. If the punishment is excessive we need to go in fair but hard with the best lawyers available. Look at how leniently the FA have treated Chelsea. We need to be standing up for ourselves not meekly allowing them to dish out severe punishment that will disrupt our club.

I get that sentiment, and nearly all of me agrees.

It's just the potential to derail the season, that concerns me.

They were all decent but for me the only definite in the XI from those four is Bednarek. KWP, probably just edges it but Bree was phenomenal when he came back from Charlton and arguably stronger defensively. Larin probably edges Adams, again only just. Brooks came here to regain match fitness and for me he doesn't get in ahead of Azaz.

I'd probably go with something like:

Peretz

KWP     THB    Bednarek    Manning

Downes     Jander/Charles

A. Armstrong   Azaz          Scienza

Larin

Subs: Bazunu, Bree, Stephens, Charles/Jander, S. Armstrong, Brooks, Adams, Fellows, Stewart

Personally I'd have Adams in over Larin and I don't think it's relevant why Brooks was here, he was premier league quality for me and Azaz isn't consistent enough for my liking although hopefully this year. Like I said, it's definitely close, I just think we had more players that were too good for this division last time. I forgot about Stewart Armstrong as well he was also superb.
