I think it's clear that we are far from a top four defense this season so far. If you're serious about promotion then we should be bringing in two new cbs once THB goes.

Why the fuck do we revert to attacking 11 players as soon as we go one up? And give the opposition every chance to get back into game. It’s been a feature ever since Stephens has found himself back in the team, regardless of who’s next to him. Don’t like to be overly negative with our players but he provides lots of ammunition!

So dull. Bree, fellows, bragg - just keep coming back inside and playing a safe pass. We scored by taking players on. Fellows got to the goal line and put in a great cross by taking players on. But nearly every other time, we play safe and west ham get back into shape...

They're a delicate bunch are the west ham players, I know it's their second string but doesn't bode well for the league season for them, lacking street smarts, falling over all the time trying to buy contact in the area etc.

Should be straightforward from here if we give our usual 2nd half improvement.

If we have to go with captain Jack all season .. we are doomed !! 
His decision making is diabolical..donkey like clearances every game .. we are constantly walking a defensive tightrope with him at the helm!

Shouldn’t even be a squad player imo ..should be backroom staff now it’s not even funny !!

I'm getting horrible Russ ball vibes with this team... Stephens is awful, has maybe 5 half decent performances per season yet is a shoe in, and wood needs to get some bottle from somewhere, for a big bloke he's bloody soft. We so need 2 CB's that we're not going to get....

Positives so far - full backs decent, Ackachukwu doing as well as can be expected, Scienza much more lively.

Negatives - Peretz (good save from Piroe though) Both CB's, Fellows, Dobbin.

Their goal came about after some really sloppy play from Mubama.  He has to be sharper than that.

Nearly put foot through the telly when Bragg turned an easy pass forward and wide to Fellows and went backwards instead.  
 

Too much sideways and backwards.  It’s like we’re haunted by the ghost of Russell Martin.  It’s just lazy.

Not sure what we've got with Dobbin, but he's not a number 10. That's a role for technical players, and his touch is poor and his passing not much better. 

I thought he was meant to be fast as well? Not much supporting evidence of that so far. 

Also too easily knocked off the ball.

I’m not sure what he’s meant to be - certainly not a wide left, doesn’t have Finn’s football awareness for #10 and not a second striker like Archer is. 

And he doesn’t seem to know either.

You can have the best back 4 in the league, if you’ve got no midfield they’re going to be exposed.

 

We need to strengthen the midfield just as much if not more.

Akachukwu has been the only really positive thing from that first half (in both senses of the phrase).

I appreciate the opposition midfield is nowhere near as tough as we will face most weeks. But he has looked really encouraging as an option. Hold up play good, defensive play decent and forward play excellent; always looking for a quick pass or carry the ball forward. A very energy to Charles but possibly filling a 'Shea Shaped Hole' quite well. 

(And the Wellington / Leo combo is always fun. )

But otherwise it's lethargic and almost disinterested.

All said still arguably a better first half 'performance' than the first two league games. 🤷

So frustrating. Play it forward. Sure, sometimes we'll lose possession. But take a chance

That was pathetic.  Whoever scouted Dobbin needs shooting.  Makes Archer look like a superstar.

Painfully slow and no cutting edge against a predominantly west ham youth team.

Really, really abject performance and with a pairing of stephens and wood we will be nowhere near promotion

TBF Jander hasn't played yet and he's probably our best or second best midfielder. We will also be getting a Charles replacement before next week.

I feel it's a bit unfair playing Scienza. Bit like putting at U18 player in an U14 match!

Jack Stephens needs to wake up. Another awful performance so far and he was shit against Stoke on Saturday.

Yep, dull football for dull people.

I get why people compare Bragg and Smallbone. Cam has more physicality - most grown men do - but plays football with a metaphorical condom on as the passing is so safe and predictable. You couldn’t see a direct winger like Wallace, Dyer or Walcott emerging from the academy these days. Safe and sideways it is.

Dibling was pretty direct. Probably why he didn’t get a look in under Martin.

we are turning (quickly) into a fucking boring side to watch.

The tempo all season has been shocking and Stephens must have the most touches of anySFC player from game 1.

This passage of play is a case in point. Like the song from Rumer..Slow…

Fellows was far more direct for WBA too. As someone who grew up idolising Danny Wallace and Steve Moran, it’s depressing.

Bit better from Fellows there, remembered that he’s still allowed to beat players and try something, chucking the Staplewood manual away.
