No idea why Bragg started a d even less idea why he wasn't hooked after the first yellow. He was a red card waiting to happen and he duly obliged. He could easily have cost us the game.

Jimmy_D Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago YES! GERRRRIN! What a finish by Breeeeeeeeeeeeee First clean sheet of the season is with ten men against that lot What was the ref on? Not arguing with the red, but I lost count of the number of fouls worse than those that Pompey got away with. 11

It was after he was clearly fouled but ref didn't give it. Azaz saw the red mist and steamed in with a hard tackle but didn't win the ball. A yellow card was the correct outcome imo. 4
Saint Fan CaM Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Just a quick shout out to JWP - he’s come into the team and settled really well. Be interesting to see if Tonda keeps him in now Jander is back.

Ah that one, yeah I didn't see a red card there at all but obviously in the ground you don't get the benefit of replays.
Paul_B Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago We held on. Can't really ask for much more in those circumstances. We certainly weren't great, but we never got the opportunity to be. I feel for Bragg, he let himself down with his naivety and he will be feeling horrendous, I thought he was going to be sick when walking off. Let's not vilify him, he's fucked up, he knows it, he can grow from here. Luckily, Portsmouth are absolute shite and didn't take their chances, otherwise they could've had 4 or 5. End of the day, the result is all that matters and we got the 3 points! Onwards and upwards! 3

VAR would've given that as a red all day long (not saying I necessarily agree with that though... Borderline for me)

Leading foot off the ground - one of those that’s often termed as a ‘leg breaker’. If VAR was involved we’d have gone down to 9 men.

Pamplemousse Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Obviously it was very stressful but very funny we won with ten men. I bet they had all sorts of Portsmyths prepared - we only won because all their best players were out, blah blah Well no excuses lads. You had more players for the majority of the game and you lost. Embarrassing. 1
Lighthouse Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Just now, Saint_clark said: Just watched a replay of it, don't think there was enough contact really. There doesn’t have to be, if you’re studs up, off the ground and out of control it can be a red. TBH I agree with that rule as it basically comes down to luck that you haven’t put someone in hospital. 3

macca155 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Cracking derby for once, blood and thunder from both sides. Decent atmosphere this time Downes and Stephens really stood out today. Azaz left it all on the pitch. How on earth can Matsuki be kept on the bench, he was excellent. Good to see Jander looking fit. Selection problem for Tonda. Shame Bragg was sent off, he was playing well, but twice he was left marooned by JWP. Two needless fouls when he lost the ball. It happens and he'll learn. I'd rather the club show faith in their youngsters. Even when it goes wrong occasionally. Pompey huffed and puffed but they are missing quality up front. Could be in trouble this year. 2

Embarrassing. Agree with 99% of that but take away the fact it was a derby game with what at stake and I actually struggled to see them scoring. One decent but not exceptional save by Peretz just after Bragg was sent off, and Swanson driving a hopeful cross-shot around 55-60mind but it wasn’t off the line and no skate player ready to tap in. Otherwise they had all the innovation of a breeze block. As long as set pieces were defended professionally, they would have played all day and never scored. Mousinho is making excuses about how Azaz was a red card and thought they coped well with us being done to 10. That was as clueless as prior Saints displays against 10 by the skates today.

Being a lifelong fan of the club and an academy product it's easy to understand him taking it so badly - he knows the passion and feelings over these derby games and would have been gutted at his actions putting the result in jeopardy. I'm glad for him that the boys were able to dig in and get the win. He'll learn from it although I know there are some on here who don't rate him but I think he has lots of potential. 4
