To make a professional foul while you are on a yellow is an unforgivable lack of concentration. Mistakes will happen, but to pull the bloke back - what was he thinking?

Will Smallbone syndrome - poor conditioning and fitness. Seems to be a recurring pattern with our recent academy graduates. Hope today spurs him on to get to the gym and put in the summer work which should have happened but the club doesn’t seem to push younger players to maximise what they can be. Too comfy and easy.

Bet whoever was on his coach was asking it to leave asap while he was doing whatver that was....

And has since as per the Fabreze advert ‘gone noseblind’.

Would take weeks to get the stale months’ worth of BO out of your nostrils.

Such an odd fanbase, genuine pondlife and with the combined menace of the inbred spawn of the Wealdstone Raider and Charles Hawtrey. Glad my nipper saw them fucked over alongside me today.

Yeah it was good to be with my 13 year old lad and enjoy this moment together.

His first derby league win and at 56 years old my first home one too..what a day!

Don't know what it is but I agree, he was off the pace and needs to sharpen up.

And I certainly don't agree with those that were clapping him as he left the pitch.

His team mates all tried to console him which is good team spirit , it was an impulse reaction as he lost the challenge so he will hopefully learn from the experience .

Certainly not an unforgivable action !

Gotta ask as not around in those days, who/what was ‘Matalo’?

It was a term for a sailor and in those days Pompey's mascot was dressed as a naval sailor and called Matalo

I agree it isn’t through the prism of victory but he’s been miles off the level of last season when he broke through and stood out. Has to improve his conditioning because he won’t be dislodging Downes, JWP and Jandar without substantial improvement and getting to last season’s levels.

Yeah, totally agree. Could have cost us the game, and yet people were clapping him off. No real excuse for the second yellow in my opinion.

If we start that game with Jander and bring hm off 65/70 minutes for Bragg we piss it.

in other news, Finn as a False / Not no false 9 is more trusted than Muamba or Dobbin.

I imagine that might not be the last time we see Azaz employed up top late in games if we have something to hang on to. Seemed much more effective at holding the ball up and helping us see the game out than our other alternatives this season.

Thanks. Had no idea. Another revelation for me today was that (according to tv comms) when they won the FA Cup in 1939 the trophy was displayed at the Dell for a bit because we were all such great pals in those days and we were pleased for them. 😂

Before my time, but back in the day folk used to watch both teams at home on alternate weeks. Think it changed in 70’s

Was this the first red card in this fixture?

No. Although only sending off I recall seeing in the fixture was Jim Steele in 1974.

But just to go MLG for a moment, that was just a sending off rather than a ‘red card’ as they didn’t come in until a couple of years later. (First one I think was George Best playing for Fulham at The Dell in 1976)

That was a tough watch. On to Norwich and home to Bolton. 4 points then a tricky test at West Ham. I’m going so we aren’t gonna win!

That was a little more detail than expected…I liked it!

Who is Dobbin? Does he play for us?

That’s the quietest I’ve ever heard their lot at St Mary’s. Embarrassing from them.

Thought I’d save MLG the trouble of correcting me about Jim Steele’s sending off.

De Zeeuw got sent off for them at our place when we did them 2-0 in the league cup. Seem to remember Beattie scored a penalty from the foul.

Yeah I’d heard that legend before but not the FA cup thing. I think they may even have said that it got paraded through the town (So’ton). How times have changed.

Yep, and Kamara got sent off for them the following season I think, thought he’d been fouled so picked the ball up and earned himself a second yellow.

My thoughts from the Itchen stand - Pompey were poor. I think if we had 11 men for the whole match (not just 43 minutes) we could have battered them (well they are Skates). The only worry I had for the line up was Bragg - was it a risk in such an important game - and so it transpired. When he pulled the Pompey player back for his second yellow, he knew straight away that he’d possibly blown it for the team - luckily it didn’t cost us, but he needs a bit more maturing before he’s the total player.

i thought trusting Stephen’s instead of Wood, given Stephen’s derby experience was the right call.

For the game, Pompey didn’t really have any finishing quality, but after our first goal I thought we sat back a little. After Cam’s sending off, we came out in the second half strong, but Sienza should have finished his chance. The ref seemed to let Pompey get away with everything and Azaz maybe got a bit lucky with his tackle (right underneath us in the Itchen) - but he was taken out by the same player right beforehand and the Ref gave nothing - but anyway, the Ref wasn’t going to give another red card.

Larin was a bit quiet, not quite getting the service, but after Cam’s red card wasn’t likely to - that red card killed the game in the second half, but Pompey didn’t have enough quality in them to take advantage. Bree had an excellent game, and the back four were solid.

good to come away with a win in a nervy game, especially having yo hold out with 10 men for 50 minutes.

Any videos of the northam when we scored?

That’s the best celebration I’ve ever seen from us.

Either side of the away fans was good as well, piling over towards the skates, Chapel is a predominantly family stand but made a good noise today and an excellent job of triggering the Skates at the final whistle, some of them raging , others close to tears, what a beautiful sight 😍

Don't disagree (note I didn't mention the 2nd). Think 'unforgivable' is a bit OTT.

They were shocking, really really bad. Noticed their own lot have picked up on it too, bemoaning their lack of noise.

Like we’ve said for years.
