saints_is_the_south Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 Good news that most want to stay. I think Surman & Lallana will improve a lot in League 1 & a year down there will do em both good. Looking at Drew at the end on Sunday though looks like he could do with cancelling any holidays & spending the summer in the gym to beef himself up a bit. saints_is_the_south Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 Well, I do agree- BUT Mcgoldrick will score shed loads in league 1..... mark my words. +1. When he was at Bournemouth on loan he banged in a load for them & virtually kept them up that season. If he can manage almost 15 in a struggling championship team i reckon he can get 25 in League 1, just need another 20/25 goal man to go with him, Ricky Lambert anybody? Beer Engine Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 There are much better teams than Saints playing in League 2 - why on earth would we want to keep Wotte or his bunch of wash-out players? The majority of these players are either just about OKish or just plain not good enough .. and they know it. They're only pledging loyalty to us now because they'd be lucky to find alternative clubs above Blue Square Premiere level ... maybe that's why they might stay ... Ponty Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 Usually I get sentimental about players and don't particularly want any to leave. In my head they're all dedicated to the SFC cause and have never played for a better club. Right now, I couldn't care less if they all went (except KD who clearly is dedicated to the SFC cause and has never played for a better club). Paul Chuckle Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 Another £1.6m which was wasted. Talk about Over-hype.... The player we all wanted in Summer 2006! If only he had taken that chance on his left foot (could be wrong) in last minute of game at Derby in play-offs that he blazed over when was going through on goal which would have won us the game

saintbletch Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 Very interesting that Smith is being released. Wotte described Smith as having "world class" abilities here. So does that mean that a) Wotte was lying/talking up Smith's abilities b) Whoever is making these decisions is not listening to Wotte or c) Wotte is not going to be making these decisions next season? INFLUENCED.COM Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 Another £1.6m which was wasted. Talk about Over-hype.... Wholly agree with that comment, the most over rated player to put on a Saints shirt for many years, always thought he was uninterested, rarely showed what can only be described as his 'true ability', I mean, why else would we have paid that much for him ? Foxstone Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 No major surprises, but we cannot go into another season with McGoldrick as our only source of goals. I agree with the 'Howards like' comment, we need a big, ugly CF for the likes of McG and hopefully BWP to play off. I can't see Euell staying though unfortunately. He is too good for L1 and he will be snapped up by a CCC club. But a solid CF and McG + BWP will get goals.
Wes Tender Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 I'm not at all sorry to see Smith go. He has been a dismal failure. He obviously showed promise at an earlier stage of his career, but has failed to deliver. Millwall didn't want him and he has proved why that was. Wotte has been made to look an idiot with his comments about him having World class abilities. Those abilities must be buried very deep for them not to manifest themselves at the level that we have been playing, or indeed in the division below. Chez Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 I can't stand Rudi Skacel, I hated the way he dribbled slowly towards the corner flag, stuck his arse into the defender then rolled forwads to get the foul. I am amazed that in three years only one referee spotted this cheating. I also hated how he waltzed around the pitch doing the bare minimum in games. The only time he sprinted was after he had had a shot and knew the crowd would have eyes on him. I hated how he failed to get fit. When playing in midfield he never last beyond 60 minutes...pathetic. I hope we get Mills tied to a contract and I can't wait to see him giving everything in games.

I hope so. Whenever he has played he has looked good IMO. He has height, strength, a little pace and a decent touch. He can also bring other players into the game. Play him alongside BWP and we have pace and height - the perfect combination. My only concern would be whether they can score enough goals. Neither has been prolific. ottery st mary Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 anyone know if Ron Davies is nearing full fitness again yet? I presume he may have lost a little pace but we need him back. Just prop him up each half in the opposing box get the wingers( Have we got any) to sling the ball in and he would still score more than Mighty Dave Mac(Forest here I come):smt041 Something like 12 coaches have said at different clubs that Smithy is not up to it....Maybe a year at Eastleigh will bring it on..Whatever is missing..Happens to a lot of young players we think are or should become stars...World class..not quite Wottey.:smt009. saints_is_the_south Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 What getting Alan Bennett back for CB? Possibly cheaper wages than Thomas & started playing really well for us last season after an awful start. Been on loan at Brentford this season who won league 2 & i may be wrong but i believe he's available on a free? Another option would be getting Alex Pearce back from Reading who impressed during his time here this season.

DT Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 No major surprises, but we cannot go into another season with McGoldrick as our only source of goals. spank_182 Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 I dont know why some people could never see that where although he was brought for a lot of money, Skacel was probably the most talented footballer at the club. He was being wasted at left back, but was still one of the better performers at the club, and it's not a surprise he hasnt been amazing the last few years with being in and out of the team for no real reason and being surrounded by crap players. Was inevitably going to leave with relegation, but will be a much bigger miss than Smith.

DT Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 A top player shines whereever he plays. Give me an example where he turned the game or was head and shoulders above the others? Skacel was indeed a top player in terms of his skill on the ball. His attitude stinks though, and it was obvious that he was a really disruptive influence. Even his body language suggested to me that he thought he always knew best and was playing way beneath his level. i don't think he'll be a loss in terms of team spirit and morale.
