The Mirror (apparently) have him linked to the Sunderland job.

and no doubt tomorrow the B'oro job, then the Newcastle job, then Wenger's replacement, then....

But oh yes, that would be nice, unfinished business and all that.. how much was he on at Celtic?

Surely not more than one big player with wages. Would be so much more important than a big player too. I know there is no chance but just imagine...

Hope he isn't on his way down the A3...there are serious roadworks and a big hole at the other end....I didn't mean it citizens of Portsmiff.

Actually, wouldn't surprise me at all if Pompey aren't after his services - a few will be, but I reckon Sunderland will win out. Fits with their wish for a "bigger name" and can see him and Quinn getting on. Good luck to him, oh those were the days...

I think that Strachan would be the ideal manager. He has proven himselfat Saints.

Mind you, a small number of the fans would probably NOT welcome him back as they have a bit of a problem with this idea !

Gordon now goes by the name of Glenn if that helps that small number of fans.:smt117

I'll be very disappointed in Niall Quinn if he thinks Gordon Strachan is the way forward. So will many thousands of other Sunderland supporters.

Why do you think that? Apart from one season at Coventry, his record is up there with any of the managers likely to be available. I think Keane will replace him at Celtic BTW.

1) Two appearances in the Champions League last 16 with the small resources Celtic have.

2) 8th place in the Premiership with Saints and a FA cup final.

It would be great if he did, I saw the rumour on the BBC a few days ago that he would quit but it was a link to the Sun or something so didn't pay any attention.

I reckon it would be a great appointment, although I doubt he would come, with Le Tis on any perspective board and Strachan as manager with a fresh start I reckon we would get a good following at home and have a good feel good factor allowing us to quickly shake off the -10 points and start playing well.... if only :(

Why? He won three in four titles at Celtic, and got them to the knockout stages of the CL twice, which is more than Martin O'Neill did and he's treated as a managerial god. Strachan didn't have budget to shell out on huge wages like O'Neil did either.

Who do you think you'll get? Ancelotti? Scolari? Fergie?

You support Sunderland dork, if Gordon Strachan enters your ****ty town you should kiss his dinkle until he agrees to stay.

I wish... he's on his way to Sunderland. Put your mortgage on it...

I would really doubt it. Why, because he left Saints at such a time when we were way ahead of where Sunderland are now, he just did not see the rewards or possibilities at that end. I have spoken to him a fair bit in the past but you don't get anything out of him. The snippet's come from his reactions to various news or circumstances. I firmly got the belief that his sacking at Coventry left a scar that has not healed completely to this day. What he is like know I have little idea but I find it difficult to believe he would go to Sunderland just for the money.

I get the feeling there is only so far he can take a team with his skill sets which are primarily fitness and attitude related. These things tend to run their course after a while, the genie gets let out the bottle and he can't put it back in. It would come as no surprise if he became manager of Scotland or possibly one of the bigger Premier teams just out of the top 4. Failing that, it would not surprise me if he turned up at Newcastle.

You seem to be confusing Gordon Strachan, by a country mile the most popular Saints manager of the Sky era and welcome in any pub in the city whatever he does for the rest of his life with Glenn Hoddle, who is a c***.

But your accurate analysis of his skill set is precisely why he is only going to get a job at the likes of Sunderland.

He's a great manager at a certain level, but I wouldn't give him a job to get, say, Spurs, Villa, Man City or Everton into Champions League contention or to acheive Europa qualification as a minimum requirement (as it would be at those clubs) season in season out.

Sunderland is likely, the only think stopping him would be the "I'm going to take a little break" routine. Newcastle or Boro would also be very good shouts, especially if both persevere with Shearer/Southgate and it doesn't start too well as I am sure it won't for them both.

I expect WGS to be back in management at the first big job of the autumn, rather than walk into one straightaway.

My shout for Celtic? Steve Bruce.

I am ITK. Strachan has already agreed to become Saints boss following Bill Gates's buy out of the club. Matt Le Tissier to become assistant boss, and a loan signing, believed to be David Beckham, has been arranged for next season.

(Living in a dreammmmmmm....)

Sunderland are reported to be about to spend £200 million on players. Would be tempting for Strachan :D

I don't argue that Sunderland would offer him the job or the rest of your analysis, I do doubt he would accept it. Time changes people, but that would be my guess from what I knew previously.

Comparatively to then and now, I would put them behind where Saints were, certainly not a great deal better. Then the small problem of being able to trick any decent player up to Sunderland? You may as well stick your bare arse out the window and hand everyone a hazel switch.

Beckham is overrated imo, we could get some world class talent in with Bill Gates' money coming into the club. Anyone got Ryan Smith's number?
