How happy are you to be a Saints fan right now?

I am pee'd off. I prefer deep depression rather than optimism. I now have to walk with a smile on my face. People are asking me if I am alright. I hate it.

To be honest. I am still not happy. I am not happy about the state of Footy.

In the 80's saints could challenge/compete in the top league. This will never happen again due to the way the big 4-5 are stangling the game. The game is strangled and fans everywhere are losing interest.

The best that saints can hope for in the next 5 years is to get to the premiership and somehow stay there. That is depressing.

About eight out of ten things could be very good

Having supported the club for nearly fifty years not sure how I feel about some rich billionaire doing what he wants with the club

Dont like the way Chelsea have become as a team since RA has arrived very arrogant challenging the Ref most of the time - hope we dont become like that

Unsurprisingly i disagree. Why shouldn't we have some dream times. We're not glory hunters, this is roy of the rovers stuff and i'm loving it.

I dont disagree but I am not over the moon just very happy with slight reservations.

Markus buying his own season ticket makes me feel a bit uneasy somehow watching Ashley at Newcastle but I am probably over reacting.

9 out of 10.

This is as good as I could ever dream.

Just that minor worry about avoiding relegation.

I guess we will get slaughtered by Ajax then Markus will know what really needs to be done.

I am more hopeful we can avoid relegation now that Wotte has gone, but I am feeling very positive for the following season 2010-11.

Just because Ashley's a tw at doen't mean we should be on alert with Leibherr's desire to meet the fans. If Mike Ashley hadn't existed we'd all be delighted at this particular gesture...

We have suffered six years in the wilderness.

It really feels like a corner has been turned, the future won't be easy but the depression we have had to endure is surely lifting, didn't we finally discover where rock bottom was ten days ago?

And let's not forget that there are plenty more teams on the brink, they might have to dish out three more points penalties that will lift us up the table before Christmas, and the way our luck is going this week, maybe earlier!!

It's a great week to be a Saints fan, and when could you last say that - 2003?

Life is good.

Why?

It's just a gesture to show that he cares and i really appreciate that. Doing something like that wouldn't have happened in a million years with Lowe because SFC was just a piggy bank for him. SFC now compared to before is like dieing and going to heavon. Let the good times roll.:)

I'm over the moon. Every day it's getting better and better.:p

I've always been happy to be Saints fan, the alternative doesn't bear thinking about..

On the positive front, for the first time in years I'm looking at the official website...

It is a little bit cheesy but I think it is also an important signal to the staff, players and fans that whilst he will support the development of the club everyone needs to do their bit and not just rely on being kept afloat by the Bank of Markus.

Yes a good point but just makes me feel a bit uneasy thats all

I dont want cheap gestures just someone to sit back and let the manager and the team get on with the job.

I have a feeling somehow that we deserve this change of fortune after everything that we have had to endure these past years. It has been annoying that we have developed some decent players through our youth academy, only to know full well that we would have to sell them because we could not afford to keep them.

It really would be nice for a change to know that if a player of ours had offers made for him, the decision would no longer be based entirely on financial considerations, that we would be able to tell those buyers that he isn't for sale for less than some ridiculous amount and if you don't like it, you can go and get stuffed.

I hope that instead of selling one good player and replacing him from the proceeds with three average players, we are now in a position to be far more selective about choosing those players who the other teams in the division would envy us for having.

I'm delighted especially that with one owner, we will not have the incessant bickering between egos that we had before, the distructive nature of which was a major cause of the club's demise.

So for many reasons, I am really on cloud nine, confident that we will also choose the right manager for the job too.

Yes very happy at the moment, awaiting announcement of new Manager though and do understand that its ML's decision but please dont burst my bubble by appointing Tony Adam. And as a little extra if they could put on a day return charter flight to the Hartlepool away game on the Tuesday 24th November that would be the icing on the cake for me.

I've been a Saints fan for nearly 40 years and the worst times were under Branfoot when there was nothing to get excited about, and the whole of the last 5 years. Things have gradually got worse and worse until last week when we nearly went out of existance. During the last 48 hours I've rediscovered my enthusiasm for SFC - even in Lge 1 on -10 - and its a great feeling.:D I hope its continues and I say to all Saints fans - please enjoy it. When things don't quite go the way we want it to, don't ever forget how it could have been.

Just can't believe it.

After the last 4 or 5 years I've suffered Fa cup final defeat, premiership relegation, seen a host of good players leave, those skate b**t**ds from down the road have a little bit of success, play off defeat and seen us got relegated again.

However the last few days have restored some faith.

A takeover

Player of the season turns down prem to stay with us

Useless manager goes and news that (depending on what you believe) that we are now one of the richest clubs around.

Nobody knows the money that will be available but I prey it's done sensibly.

I'm hoping for a managerial appointment that can firstly get us out of this division.

Then a storming championship campaign where we buy a potent strike force and finally the promised land once more.

There is no go wasting money on ONE player when we must build slowly and ensure we don not become a Leeds United or find ourselves BANKRUPT for good.

I have very little to moan about. This frustrates me. But it's Friday, if the dark 98days tought us nothing, it tought us Friday is the day the big stuff happens......expect some big news today, possibly even with a few press conferences at various times throughout today.

Weds- Takeover Thurs- Sack Wotte Friday- ???

Sorry Mole.........going off subject....Very happy by the way...now then, the big four!!!!

On talk sport yesterday, they were discussing a break away Euro league (again), and they were saying that this would be good for football/TV/and fans.............yeh right!!!, it would only be good for the self professed elite clubs, who would aim to get even richer.

Let them do it I say.........then all fans, of all clubs left out in the cold, should boycott these greedy barstewerds, and not allow them back into their respective leagues, after it all go's pear shape.

My opinion anyway

Was classically and proverbably Over The Moon for a few hours on wednesday, although have been in a strange fug ever since. The sacking of Wotte has cheered me again yet I am nervous about new manager and what (who) they will bring to the new team. super happy about KD.

prepared to trust Oldknow for now, Cortese looks the part (ie slightly menancing). all good

wierd, can't let myself enjoy it too much yet...

I'm about an 8/10 , we're still ten points behind Yeovil and the rest of League One, there's a chance of further points deductions (hopefully not) we don't know who's going to be manager and have a squad missing at least two of last season's regulars who were relegation fodder and haven't shown much pre-season.

But then there's the 2.5billion quid, and my dirt-cheap ST, and a nice new yellow away kit on the way, and we've actually got a team to support still, so that's good.

Very happy withe the latest developments but now well p***ed off that Rupert Lowe did not put SLH into recivership a week earlier to avoid the -10 pts!

7/10 could get better

Sky Bet has us 8/1 to win L1 outright - good outside bet?

I would echo those sentiments whilst taking on board the balance of John B's and Buctootim's comments as well. We can all do our bit but at the same time I would hate it if we were to become slave to every whim of a rich owner. For instance I would love to see us hold onto our homegrown talent (unless common sense dictates) and buy players within our means and not simply reply on the wealth of Mr Liebherr, unless urgent need dictates.

IMO, Mr Liebherr provides us with a fantastic and safe foundation but I don't want him to throw his money around like confetti. Success that is won is twice as sweet as success that is bought and 10 - 15 years ago how many Chelsea shirts did we use to see in our schools on our local high streets?

For me Chelsea is the one club for whom I have an intense dislike because in their analysis they have not earned but simply bought their 'success' and as JB mentioned have acted like spoilt prima donna's along the way that is reflected in their 'plasticky' fansbase. I strongly value the core beliefs and history of this club and don't want to be viewed as the Chelsea of the south coast as it all becomes a bit meaningless.

Whilst, I understand the nw board's decision to part company with Mark Wotte the way his exit was managed and the treatment of a dignified and loyal man was not appropriate IMO. However, I am very grateful and happy with Mr Liebherrr's purchase and infinitely more preferable than the Pinnacle shambles that so many championed as the best solution for the club and who are now jumping around like the excited ship rats they have become prostituting themselves at the feet of any consortium who they felt could deliver.

How happy am I? It's an accentuated form of the relief that I felt after we beat Sheff Utd to stay up the season before last. I will watch with considered interest how the new board settles in and how our support is reflected in ticket sales. Most important of all will be who we appoint as manager as that will be the first measure of intent, firing is the easy bit, hiring a successor another thing entirely if they are working to a League 1 budget as suggested by Mr Oldknow.

Griff we would be about 8/1 if we started on 0pts. Take into effect our current squad and the fact we don't have a manager and no real measure of intent from the owner, that will come with Wotte's replacement, I would keep your powder dry for this season and enjoy the ride. Personnally at this stage I would want at least double those odds and a 1/4 the odds first 4. Terms you are unlikely to get, maybe better off buying Saints on the points spread if you fancy them to do that well.

I can't disagree with anything you say. I'm happy that all over the forum there are signs of unity of purpose and a general feeling of well-being breaking out where a few days ago there was division and pessimism.

I look forward to discussing the merits of the new manager, the new players, the results of the matches, the standard of refereeing in this division, the quality or lack of quality of the catering at other grounds, etc.

Whenever anything surfaces in areas other than those and criticism arises regarding the way the club is run, all we will have to do is remind ourselves of how close we came to either going out of existance, or being taken over by one of the tyre-kicker groups and sanity should return.

i simply cannot believe the negativity of a few people, how can any saints fan not be over the moon at the moment. We are in fantasy land, the situation we now find ourselves in as one of the richest clubs in britain would be reason to celebrate at the best of times but it was only a week ago we were faced with the threat of folding completely. I can just about remember when we signed keegan who was the twice european footballer of the year at the time and the buzz that brought to the city was unbelievable but i think the buzz of the last couple of days has been much greater than that. I guess in life you will always find a couple of people who moan no matter what happens but please wake up to the situation here. what more could we possibly ask for than we have now got, this is beyond our wildest dreams. we have an owner who clearly means business and wants to bring success back to our beloved club and somebody has the cheek to say they are worried because its cheesy he wants to buy a season ticket!!!!! the future looks brighter than ever in the history of the club, enjoy it people and dont look for problems that simply dont exist. this club means so damn much to me as it does to thousands of saints fans in southampton and throughout the world that i have nearly found a tear in my eye over the last 48 hours as the reality of the situation has begun to hit home. i would like to say thankyou markus for what you have done from the bottom of my heart, you will probably never quite know the impact of what you are doing in saving our great club is having on my daily life and the daily lives of other saints fans who live and breathe southampton fc.
