Murty Signs

The only hope is that he stays fit for the season as we have precious little cover for him in that position if Lloyd James is to move to midfield.

Still a welcome addition of an old head with positional sense in this league.

Am I the only one who thinks that James had a pretty good season last year ? I reckon he improved solidly and will be the ideal backup for Murty as well as covering midfield ????

Totally agree that James had a good season there and grew a lot in stature and confidence. Is James a midfielder or RB or just a plug when we have a problem? I saw him more a a maturing midfielder but, hey-ho, that just my take.

agree.

both fullback positions have both decent first choice and cover now.

Once he stopped throwing himself into 20 yard sliding tackles through the back of his man and getting booked in practically every game he did ok - he might have more to offer than Wotton alongside Gillett in the middle though, which is probably why Henderson was putting him back in there pre-season.

James is definitely not a midfielder, regardless of his background. He waits for the ball to arrive to him rather than goes and meets it. Against Ajax his performance was woeful, not least if you compare it with Gillet and Fish. As a RB he will probably be OK as a back up to Murty.

I welcome Murty to Saints. He is a good addition, but it was hardly a great surprise, was it?

OS is back to it's old tricks by firstly highlighting the signing as BIG news, and secondly got it's toe curling, stomach acid inducing, teeth grinding, SPIN back on song again. "...Alan Pardew has moved quickly..."

When you can describe one of the slowest signings we have ever seen in those terms then you don't respect your readers. The Echo, of course, picked it up and printed the same tosh unedited.

It winds me up to be treated like a moron.

OS is to imform and promote the club - they are doing that

it is a big signing for where we are.

Oh come on, to say "Alan Pardew has moved quickly" is just silly. If they'd said "Alan Pardew wanted to have a good look at him before committing to a decision", THEN they would have been informing us.

I think its big news.....and no spin involved. He is a good quality signing...Pardew took his time and assessed him, reckons he can be fitter etc and then signed him. Did pardew move quickly, yes I would say he did by getting him to St Mary's in the first place.

People are strange!!!!

Not to take anything away from the points that you made, but I am sure that I read somewhere that it was Wotte who brought Murty in, in the first place.

I think you and several other have got it wrong. It's not "only a website". It's the clubs voice to the supporters and it ought to do better. Since I'm checking other club websites around Europe, I am clear that ours is lagging far behind others. I have not suggested that AP has done anything wrong, but the suggestion that he had been "swift" is daft. Murty was here when AP arrived.

There are other things the club no doubt will improve over time as well, such as the catering, but that is not as important as the communication with the fans.
