We should get rid of Saga and Rasiak if we can IMO. Neither wants to be here. Saganowski should score for fun in this league based on his international exploits and previous record, but you just get the feeling he won't.

Would prefer a new signing with lambert, but think Pato could do a good job and is hungry and enthusiastic, which his Polish counterparts are not.

Lambert & New Signing. Maybe someone like Beckford wouldnt go a miss... and he wasnt playing for leeds tonight! Why would they "rest" him after only one league game?? Surely cant be that tired....

Lambert's power with Beckford's pace would do very nicely thank you very much! Although I can't see it happening...I think he's destined for PL, or certainly upper reaches of CCC

I don't know a lot about Lambert but I get the impression he's a David Hurst/Mark Viduka sort of classy and strong but not particularly fast type? Is that fair?

If that's true then I think that neither Saga or Rasiak have the pace to form a lasting partnership with him (although I suspect this League really is rather terrible and that any of the four will score a hatful if the rest of the team is right).

I think Paterson is the natural partner of the three but as others have said, Saga and Rasiak will not want to play second fiddle. For those reasons I would try to shift the two Poles and sign another striker with pace, and possibly one more as cover. I've suggested Nathan Tyson of Forest before and I still think he'd be a good signing, especially coming off the bench; he's very quick indeed.

Don't underestimate it...

Lambert and Saganowski, but Marek will be off soon so not going to happen.

If/when Rasiak and Saga do go, we'll need to replace both of them. In an ideal world, we'd have four strikers to choose from, but who?

Andy Bishop from Bury would be a good signing, but maybe we need someone with a bit more pace to partner Rickie.

Any other realistic suggestions?

I've gone for Lambert and a new signing simply because I don't think the poles will be here at the end of the month. Simeon Jackson or Nathan Tyson would fit the bill for the second pacy striker very well. I actually think Patterson could do the job but he's still a kid and there's got to be doubts whether he could carry that role for a whole season, particularly as Pardew seems to think we've got too many young players in the first team.

We've got to sort out the rest of the team as well though - it's not going to be any good having great strikers if we don't provide enough chances for them.

is Simeon Jackson actually that good or is this suggestion just because he scored a hat-trick t'other day?!

He is someone I suggested a week or two ago in the HCDAJFO thread, he is pacy, tricky and he scored 20+ goals for Gillingham last season in league two, and then scored a hat-trick on saturday.

He will be in the CCC before the end of the season IMHO unless a club like ours sign him, and he can see that he has a chance of being in the Prem within 3 or 4 years.

We've got the big, 6'3 target-man bully in who can shoot from long range and score headers - no denying that the best thing to compliment him would be someone like Jermaine Beckford/Kevin Lisbie/Simeon Jackson - i.e a fast nippy centre-forward who's going to race through and slot home one on one whilst Lambert can whack em in from long range and get the headers - in truth we've had neither type of striker for the past 2 years so I guess we're halfway there.

Neither Rasiak nor Saga are going to be happy warming the bench for long periods in this league - so I think that at least one of them will go, possibly both. I would opt for Lambert and Saga (if he stays), if not I'd give Pato a go with a veiw to getting somebody in as well.

I voted for lambert and new signing but i would go for lambert and lallana, at least give it a go, why not ?? Lallana looked good in the Hearts game when he played just off Stern so he could find his game again here, he is not a winger unfortunately and i think Morgan provides the creativity in the center.

Give him a go, i think you will be pleasantly surprised

Lambert is not noted for his pace, so he needs to be paired with someone nippy who can place an accurate pass. Paterson or failing that, Fish therefore. A fit Holmes would be useful too. Who else has any speed?

Saga and Rasiak are too slow, and anyway they are yesterday's men now.

for me it has to be RL (lambert i mean, not the other one!), and Rasiak. 2 proven goalscorers. Agreed there is a lack of pace there but with Lallana at the head of a diamond and pace on the wings in holmes/fish/new signing i dont think thats a problem at all.

IMO two quality slower strikers who between them can head, hold up play, poach and score from range would be awesome in L1, altho i do think another pacey signing will be required so we dont start hearing the phrase one trick pony.

Oh and although i dont think it will happen in a million years, if Beckford signs i will have to lock myself in my room for a week with a box of tissues.

One of the reasons Lambert signed for us is that we 'doubled his wages' compared to what Bizzol were prepared to offer him , as there's no indication that Markus Liebherr will allow the wage bill inflate out of control again (and nor should he) I take that to indicate that some large earner(s) will shortly be on their way - Saganowski and Rasiak (on £15k a week) may well fit the bill .

We still need at least one more striker signed I'd say to go with Lambert , Paterson and Lallana - unless Jamie White is considered ready for the first team that is . Something tells me Alan Pardew needs no prompting from us to realise this . :)

Lambert & Paterson for me, I was impressed with Paterson on Sat his overall willingness to work the back four never gave them time on the ball & his tackling back was good. Also he took his goal very well, and games under his belt at this level with Lambert can only help him improve.

Also not convinced by Saga at all. And it appears that neither Saga or Rasiak want to be here so ship them both out & lets get another striker in for cover/competition.

Having seen Saturday, until we get a wide right specialist I would bring Holmes back wide left, play Lambert and Raziak in the middle and play Saganowski wide right as he did in the Euros for Poland.

Not great pace but plenty of craft and power. A right midfielder and a dynamic central midfielder is a must, that together with a big centre back would make us one of the strongest in the division.

Pace is for me a vital ingredient and it is something we have to introduce over time. It really has to be a criteria for future signings and the academy. Without pace we can't compete at the higher levels.

Players like Lallana who are undoubtably skilful on the ball will always fall short unless they are quick thinking and powerful. MLT wasn't the quickest but was immensely skilful with a lightning football brain and was big and strong.

I heard last night they did double his money but that he wasn't on big money at Bristol Rvrs. Saga, Raziak, and Thomas are on much more than him.

If either of the Poles go we should go for another striker with a similar scoring record to Lambert.

Lallana, White etc are going to have to settle for filling in and developing, but Paterson could well come through as a substitute.

Lambert and Saga IMO

I actually voted for Lambert and another signing..but am inclined to agree with you for several reasons.

Saga will play better with a bigger man alongside him.. just never worked with Rasiak..don't they like each other ?

As Lambert somewhat resembles Rasiak from a distance..why buy someone so similar if ....GR is staying ? I expect Greg to depart in a short time. I'd like to see a RL / Saga combination that works, but sadly Saga seems lacking in self-confidence..(?). If he moves on definitely need another front man for RL in case of injury, etc. It would be good to have TWO extra striker to put on in the last half hour of a game. It's a long season with 46 games and three cup comps.

However, I do rate Paterson and expect to see him used as a THIRD striker / bench change in the short term and hopefully an improving career... in a year or so. Looking back at the (young) Mick Channon and MLT, both started slowly and grew better and better in their 2nd / 3rd seasons. Hope for that from Paterson AND Lallana.

So we have just spent 1million + on Lambert who i think will do well for us yet i see people have still voted for a pairing that doesnt include him.

Have you people not seen our strikers play in the last couple of seasons. I do sometimes wonder what planet some people live on.

To be fair I voted for Saga and Rasiak to be original and found I had still been beaten to it by someone...that'll learn me for trying to be clever
