Ali Dia Clip

The interesting thing about Ali Dia was the fact Souness watched him in training before sticking him on the bench.

So, he must have shown snippets of ability

Had he buried that chance in the bottom corner, who knows what would have happened

Exactly this. Outsiders seem to think that Souness got completely duped and threw him into the team without seeing play, based on the "George Weah" recommendations alone. The reality should be much more embarrassing for Souness, as he watched him train with us for a few days before deciding he was good enough to play Premier League football.

It's worth noting that Souness also thought Boumsong was a good player too :-o

Having said that and despite him being a very average manager, his punditry is always articulate and reasoned - I can only assume his man-management and judgement held him back.

Just wondering who you guys think was the better player, Tiss or Dia, I'm undecided?

It's this kind of naive comment that makes me sick of Saints fans. Have you ever even been to a game?? I think not, or else you would not ask such a ridiculous question!!! Matt is a legend round these ways mate and played at the top level for many years. Ali Dia had one poor game and got shipped out - there is no comparison. Go and find some clips of the magic MLT used to produce and see if you can find similar of Dia!!

I dispair sometimes of Saints fans and this forum, and I've recently been thinking of throwing it all in. Are you, like, 12 or something lol!!

Not sure how long he was on the pitch - I have him down as 53min but others say 43mins.

According to Soccerbase he came on on the 32nd minute and came off on the 85th which makes it 53minutes,don't know how reliable that site is though.

Hmmm... I'm not sure many on here would agree with you on that mate. I don't think there is that much difference between Dia and Le Tiss.

Le Tiss didn't exactly score many for Saints did he?

Bit of a stupid thread, really.

Tiss or Dia? Tiss, no question. Tissier was a Southampton hero. Where did Dia play after Saints? Apparently he went non-league after his singel game for us. How can anyone think he was as good as Le Tiss?

to be fair, dia shows a couple of nice touches in that clip

maybe we were a little hasty getting rid. possibly 'one that got away'

No question is a bit harsh. Tissier was a lazy player with little ambition. At least Dia really wanted to play for us and his strike in the Leeds game was excellent. To add to this he clearly impressed Souness in training. IMO HCDAJFU HTH

Not really a fair question, we didn't get to see enough of Dia in a Saints shirt to make a judgement. Shame he did a runner and was never seen again at The Dell, he may have turned out to be better than Pulis. :)
