John B Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Rickie Lambert has proved to be one of the best buys the Saints have made in recent years. I hope we can buy a couple of decent players in the forthcoming Window to help the team to improve further . Loans maybe OK but buying good players shows commitment and they know they are at St Mary's for sometime
Mr Saints Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 If we can find the centre half equivalent of Lambert in January, play-offs will be a real possibility. Money very well spent.

SuperSAINT Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Yes, awesome signing. Wonder who the 'younger' striker was that Pards had lined up before he went for Rickie?
S-Clarke Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Yes, awesome signing. Wonder who the 'younger' striker was that Pards had lined up before he went for Rickie? Tom Craddock at Luton i believe. but lambo is well worth £1m. Another goal tonight, should have had a few more too - but seemed to keep delaying his touch. He did seem to really labor in the later part of the game too, he still looks like he's carrying some sort of knock as he's not as ''mobile'' as he has been before. RedWillie Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Ok stattos, what is the cost per goal so far? at 16 goals so far I make it £62500 each - but coming down....
SuperSAINT Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Beckford would've cost small fortune. I'll side with S-Clarke on this one. How's Craddock been doing this year? I'd still quite like to have a try and getting Simeon Jackson onboard. Really quick & nippy and would probably score goals in the CCC too.
Lazlo78 Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 How's Craddock been doing this year? According to their website he is joint top scorer for Luton with 7 goals in all competitions (6 league, 1 FA cup)...
Pat from Poole Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 If we can find the centre half equivalent of Lambert in January, play-offs will be a real possibility. Money very well spent. Agreed. Maybe Elliot Ward could be the missing piece of the jigsaw. More importantly, we need to keep hold of Lambert and Lallana.

JonnyLove Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Shocking tonight. He ran less than MLT in the number 7 shirt. Ok he scored but I could of done that one.
Bailey Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 I'm convinced Lambert is still not 100% in terms of fitness. He doesn't appear to be as mobile and lively as he has done previously. Still, I'm not complaining! If he's scoring when he's lacking fitness, imagine what he'll do when he's at the top of his game . . .
St Will Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Yeah there was something not right with him tonight, seemed very laboured. I'm wondering if it's not so much a knock, but all the extra fitness training he's been doing, plus playing every minute of every game it seems....maybe he's just knackered. Maybe Pards has said he needs him to stick with it until Jan, then when we get some cover in, he might be able to give him a bit of a rest. Need a backup target man. Gemmel Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 Shocking tonight. He ran less than MLT in the number 7 shirt. Ok he scored but I could of done that one. Ha ha - You have got to be joking. As someone else has said he is not 100% and something I have already posted. What is lacking is that half a yard, not effort. He got through so much work in the first half espeacially. Did you see where he ran from for his goal, or for the amazing bent cross to the back post or the effort that waigo put over the bar (Would have been one of the best goals ST Mary's has seen)
Saint_clark Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 That's 23 goals down to Lambert alone now (14 scored, 9 assists).

I agree - Lambert had a poor game tonight with the exception of his goal. I was almost of the opinion he and a couple of others in the team had placed a large amount of money on a 1-0 win. Arizona Posted 1 December, 2009 Share Posted 1 December, 2009 at 16 goals so far I make it £62500 each - but coming down.... So better than the £1.75m per goal we spent on Agustin Delgado. FWIW I wasn't impressed by him tonight. Looked a bit lethargic at times and I don't think it's fault. We just don't have a similar player to replace him. We need a similar replacement in January so we can rest him or bring him off every now and then.
West End Saint Posted 2 December, 2009 Share Posted 2 December, 2009 I dont think some people realise the work & effort Rickie puts in it is a very hard job leading the line & a lot of this season he has been doing it on his own. As has been pointed out he is not only scoring bundles of goals his assists are very high too he made two goals at Northampton Papa should have scored from his cross & when he gets a chance he hits the target. Fantastic signing and a great player

And yes I did see where he came from it was about 25-30 yards out just left off the middle. (It was right in front of me). Yes put it in the first half but did nothing not even chase simple balls in the second. If he wasn't fully fit or needed a rest he should of been taken off. (Lallana can play up front as well). The fact he didn't do any running in the second half almost cost us the win when the keeper collected a ball he should of ran for and then punted it up field. I'm not saying he not a good player for us but last night he was shocking and at the moment does not deserve the part in his song where we say he takes the ****. corsacar saint Posted 2 December, 2009 Share Posted 2 December, 2009 Perhaps some on here, should watch his hold up play, his flick ons, and his all round game. Granted he has struggled for fitness for a couple of games, but for me the only reason he is not already playing at a higher level is because he lacks a bit of pace. I am well happy with him as a player at our club.

He is a great signing but I would question if he is up to the job of being the lone striker because he gave up the ghost after about 70 mins and I was surprised he didn't come off and not Waigo who was running into offside positions for the fun of it. Based on what I saw Lambert's general fitness is a worry at the moment especially if we continue to play him in the mickey mouse cup and the FA Cup in a massively important run of league games. Players of his ability need to be able to last the full 90 regardless of the amount of running they do - didn't affect many of the others who kept going and you do wonder if there is an underlying problem be it overcoming a virus or lack of training because of illness or dare I say it, no better not. SNSUN Posted 2 December, 2009 Share Posted 2 December, 2009 Every one of Pardew's signings so far has been a hit, in a major or minor way, and they have all contributed positively to the team. It's so nice to have a manager we trust to bring in the correct players that we need. I'm looking forward to the ins in January, I'll be turning a blind eye to the out's though... If he's scoring when he's lacking fitness, imagine what he'll do when he's at the top of his game . . . We always said the same about Ron Davies. After his first season every defender knew his name and he was marked (literally) by 2 or 3 defenders all the time. I'm sure he played a lot of games when he was nowhere near 100%. But when the Paine /Sydenham crosses came into the box ...you would ignore him at your own cost. I guess Lambeert is now attracting a lot more attention. The9 Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 So better than the £1.75m per goal we spent on Agustin Delgado. Yeah, but they were Premier League goals, each one was worth about a quarter of a place from the bottom in the Prem at the end of the season and probably made us about £50k in prize-money per goal. wild-saint Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 I think we need to give Lambert a break here. He puts a real shift in up fron tleading the line. He had a game on the saturday in the cup and then plays on tuesday evening. On the other hand Wycombe had lovely afternoon off as they were already out of the cup. its no real supride that they were stronger in the last 15/20 minutes than the saints in my opinion. Flippin' 'eck, I would rate Lambert as highly as Beckford, so we have a 6 million dollar (ok, pound sterling) man!!! It is not helped by not having any other decent forwards fit at present.
