Marsdinho Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 Although I like the fella, and hope he plays for us for a long logn time, I think he has got this one wrong. I wouldnt mind betting that most of the footballing world would actually like to see France come bottom of their world cup group and out of the competition. CHEATS. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8393812.stm

alpine_saint Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 Bit of a tw*tty statement to put your name to, to be honest.. Despite my loathing of Beckham, Lampard and the WAGS, I still would want them to beat a bunch of cheats.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 (edited) Anyway Morgan probably actually knows a couple of the lads in the French squad, he's not going to say well I hope England beat them is he. Victor Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 The French are a 'bunch of cheats'. Really? I thought just one of them handled the ball. Has an English player ever handled a ball deliberately to gain an advantage? Yes, so the English are also a bunch of cheats, and should be excluded from the World cup, right? Would the Irish have won the match if Henry had not handled the ball? Possibly, but more likely no, they wouldn't have. Which of the two foreign sides do you think would have added more to the finals, France or the Republic of Ireland? What lessons should be learned from the way in which it will be France that are in this year's tournament finals? These are interesting subjects for debate, not whether or not the French are a bunch of cheats. Before you lot get all high and mighty and xenophobic think about just a few of the English players you've slagged off for diving, fouling, handling, shirt-pulling, wrongly claiming for throw-ins, feigning injury, time-wasting etc.; particularly when they have been playing against Saints. Let's just be a little more adult about this.

Jesus Reigned Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 Not a particularly clever statement to say that you hope your home country "takes out" the country where you play your football and your wages are paid. Ok, let's extend the ban to every team in history that scored the goal that qualified them for the World Cup in extra-time of a two-legged play-off directly from the resultant pass after a deliberate handball. Oh, that's still just France then.
SaintDonkey Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 He's French for gawd's sake. Would anyone be questioning whether it was disrupting Saints morale if Lallana had said he hopes England are drawn against the French and knocked them out? It's dressing room banter - the world would be a duller place without it

brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 I'd quite like the French team to do well, I think the Irish have been acting over the top about a handball. I dont think it was wise for Morgan to state he would like to put the English out, but I expect there is a lot of dressing room banter between the different nationalities. Toadhall Saint Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 FFS - He's French and has skippered the national side at various levels - what do you expect him to say? As to Henry - he did what most pros would do (oh and I think it was ball to hand which is another debate) - played to the whistle. Lets be honest when Claus took him out in the cup final he could have gone down ala ronaldo, pires etc etc but he didn't and I will always give him credit for that. Window Cleaner Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 (edited) I'm still embarrassed by Michael Owen's penalty run. Footballers cheat,it's up to the ref to blow up and book them for it. If he doesn't because he's a plonker well then alls fair in love, war and football. Anyway, the French have been victims of at least 2 world cup outrages, worst of all the flying drop kick by Schumacher on Patrick Battiston in the 1982 semi. FIFA owed them for that one, perhaps now it's even Steven again. Edited 4 December, 2009 by Window Cleaner

Nothing whatsoever. It was a straight red even by 1982 standards and a penalty for a foul in the area. Ball doesn't need to be anywhere near for it to be a penalty, it was an assassination attempt. Ref gave f*ck all, just a goal kick. He'd been bought, that can be the only explanation.

dellgirl Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 There are 3 French speakers in the club now I would think the banter is hilarious within the team. They all look perfectly happy to me on the pitch which is what matters to me and Eenglish is very much his 2nd language and please God he does have a sense of humour and we should let him show his dedication to S.F.C who pay his wages and let him cheer on his Country as we will ours. hectors house Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 A Saints player got booked this weekend for a deliberate handball before putting the ball in the net - does that make anyone associated with Saints cheats? I hope not. As for the quote from MS - just banter I'm sure and likely said with a smile on his face. From recent interviews the guy finally seems to be coming onboard and want to be here. He's also playing pretty well at the moment so please let's not slag off one of our own unless we are absolutely sure it is warranted.

derry Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 Cheating is ingrained in football including appealing for diving, throwins, corners, holding, shirtpulling, handling, etc. It is down to the authorities to empower and instruct referees to clean the game up and put in the rules the use of video replays, goal-line cameras and hawkeye in all national leagues. It isn't going to happen, scapegoat time, Henry to get a cynical ban to make no point at all.

It isn't going to happen, scapegoat time, Henry to get a cynical ban to make no point at all. This will only ever happen when FIFA work out how to make money from goal-line/video technology or that idiot Blatter resigns/retires/dies. They talk a great game on fair play and then do feck all about it. I went to the tennis final last week with hawkeye/referrals and it added to the drama and entertainment. In rugy the video ref adds to the drama, in cricket the run-out cameras add to the drama. Are all these other sports wrong to embrace technology? So you're right, all they will do is punish the odd footballer while 99% walk away scott free...

One tried to further the cause for his country, one tried to line his pocket. Even Antonio tried to get away with a blatant hand ball on Tuesday night but at least got booked for his troubles. However, even the ref can't deal with every underhand practice that goes on in a game and the authorities should not just be empowering the referees IMO. You can't label Henry a cheat and exonerate MLT for his admission. Afterall both were one off events and at least Henry was not hiding anything and both like Maradona were trying to get away with it.
