NickG Posted 6 December, 2009 Share Posted 6 December, 2009 I know its a lower level, but so it our team; Lambert now at 15 goals, still only player 20 out of 46 games. What do you think he will finish on? Pahars/ BT / Shearer / MLT have all been our season top scorers in past with about 13- 14. Highest since I have been going is Keegan with 26. NickG Posted 6 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 6 December, 2009 unfair comparison - how many would MLT/Beattie/Keagan/Shearer score in L1? this site never ceases to amaze me! I am not saying Lambert will be better than Keegan if he scores more this season. Hope that's clear! But he may score, in a team in a lower league (but without Channon, Ball, Williams etc;)) and get some sort of record.

beatlesaint Posted 6 December, 2009 Share Posted 6 December, 2009 However many Lambert gets, if he stays fit, I expect Connolly to be on more or less the same total as Ricky. 6 goals in 6 starts plus 3 as sub is a hell of a ratio, especially for a man who hasn't played for nearly two years. What a strike force.....then add in Lallana for good measure and oh boy !! Rejoice

VectisSaint Posted 6 December, 2009 Share Posted 6 December, 2009 Doubt Lambert will top Big Ron's 37 goals in Division 1 in 66-67 or Derek Reeves 44 in 59-60, but would be great if he did.

Derek Reeves scored 4 against Swindon in the first game my dad took me to October 9th 1959 and I saw most of Ron's goals that season (66-67). I would think RL and DC will get around 50/55 between them this season.

Saint Without a Halo Posted 6 December, 2009 Share Posted 6 December, 2009 (edited) I am more interested in can the team top 100 league goals by the end of the year? So far 35 in 20 at 1.75 a game We need need to increase that to 2.5 a game for the remaining 26 to reach the 100 This must be an achievable ratio going forward given we have been running at the required rate of 2.5 goals a game over our last ten league games in which we have scored 25 goals. Must look up the last time we scored over a 100 league goals a season! Edited 6 December, 2009 by Saint Without a Halo

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 6 December, 2009 Share Posted 6 December, 2009 I was wondering if a 2009 Brawn Formula 1 car driven by Jenson Button would beat Hannu Mikkola's 1983 Audi Quattro rally car in a race around the M25 on a wet Tuesday afternoon , nonsensical comparisons being just one of my many hobbies . Jack Posted 6 December, 2009 Share Posted 6 December, 2009 I'd like to think the squad could get near 100 goals for the season. Big target, but why not? Lambert can get at least 30, Connolly if fit can score 20 or more, Lallana maybe more than that. We just need the midfield to score more. Hammond is chipping in with a few, but Morgan might never score at this rate. We've got 4 players scoring regularly, who really cares if Morgan isn't scoring? Having 2 strikers banging them in for fun, and Lallana getting that many goals from midfield....I've never seen a Saints team as prolific in front of goal. Yes, the standard of opposition isn't what we're used to, but it's definately a nice feeling when you go out on a match daay expecting a win and to see some goals. Andy_Porter Posted 6 December, 2009 Share Posted 6 December, 2009 It's nice to have midfielders scoring for the first time in ages. Waigo, Lallana and Hammond should get 25+ between them which is decent for three midfielders, would be nice for Schneiderlin to get a goal and start getting some confidence. If only he didn't miss that sitter against Oldham.

Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 I've often wondered the following: Which would win in a fight? A grizzly bear in 3 feet of water or a great white shark in 3 feet of water. The reason for the watewr is that it works as a help and a hindrance to both parties (there are reports of GWS attacks at water depths of 3 feet). What do we all reckon? Floodlights went out. Game finished about 10 pm. Missed the last bus home and had to walk. Mum really concerned as School next day. We had no phone. 4-0 up at one time but pegged back to 4-4. Goalie injured. Huxford (5'8") went in goal. We are a similar side now. Can score plenty and concede too many as well

Good one DPS - I'll back the Great White - I think 3 feet is enough water for to still be able to turn. The one that comes up in our pub discussions late on a Saturday night every now & again is a polar bear against a silverback gorrilla, over 3 rounds - one is in the jungle, one in the arctic & the third on neutral territory. I nearly got thrown out of Edinburgh zoo after monkey feeding time when the girl on the mike asked if anyone had any questions!!! You'll have to be more specific , fresh water favors the Grizzly I'd say as the Shark would surly be at a disadvantage while in salt water the Shark must have the edge . But if the Shark is a fully mature 20ft long adult and the bear is just a 2 week old cub then all bets are off - even in estuarial waters . Saint_clark Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 But surely if the bear is a 2 week old cub then the mother will not be far behind, and in that case she will go to much further lengths to defeat the shark than she would of had she been on her own. Grizzly Bear mothers are notoriously inattentive , I wouldn't be at all surprised if baby bear wasn't even missed until called for his/her tea , by which time junior might well be reduced to shark sh1t . I'm sure we can all agree you can get much lower than that .
