If we Beat Leeds 8-0

Arizona

Recommended Posts

We will have as many League goals by Christmas as we scored in the whole of last season. Just think it's something the players should consider if they find themselves 6-0 up with 20 minutes left.

A few more random league goal stats:

We are 3 League goals (that's 1 game :D) away from topping last years home goals tally. (20 - 23)

It has taken Lambert 16 games to match last years top league scorer (DMG, 12 goals in 46 apps)

Lambert has also matched last season's top assister (Surman 6). However he has 3 in other competitions compared to Surman's 0.

James and Lallana have already matched their leagues assists from last year (3 each). Scheiderlin has 2. 2 more than last year.

Schneiderlin has the most shots without scoring (19).

Papa Waigo is the most accurate shooter, 90% (9/10) of his efforts have been on target. Mellis is the least accurate with 16% (1/6)

Our Best assassins (goals per shot ratio) are Harding (0.29) Lambert (0.25), Connolly (0.22), Waigo (0.2) Lallana (0.19)

This compares to last year...

Saganowski (0.17), Surman (0.12), BWP (0.11), McGoldrick (0.1), Euell (0.05)

His goal yesterday put Forest 3rd in the Championship

3 goals from 19 apperances according to soccerbase.

Yes, not all that exciting considering he and Lambert went for pretty much the same cash. Dexter has more goals for NF this season.

Ex Saints League Goals this season:

Rasiak - 6

Blackstock - 5

Jones - 5

Skacel -3

DMG - 3

Euell - 3

Beattie - 2

Crouch - 2

Ormerod - 2

Fuller - 1

Walcott - 1

Also if we beat Leeds 8-0 it would finally be revenge for that match in the 70s when Leeds under Don Revie beat us 7-0.

It might even stop the BBC always showing that clip where the Leeds players just pass it around for about 10 minutes without us getting a touch which seems to be the standard "look how good Leeds were in the 70s" clip.

Don't make sweeping statements, GS. I would have had Billy Davies at St Marys in a heartbeat, last season; and I suspect there were plenty more Saints fans who felt the same.

Me too as I posted so many times I bored everyone to death.

ps if we beat Leeds 8-0 I will eat the Itchen Bridge

pps another win/clean sheet without Davis. Not a coincidence.

So you'd say that Jones is doing the best, considering he's playing at the highest level.

FWIW McGoldrick played most of the season on RM and CM for Forest, he has only recently been moved up top.

Arizona is conveniently forgetting that alot of his stats are comparing players/teams in the Premiership and Championship to players/teams in League One. Big difference playing Man Utd in the Premeirship or Newcastle in the Championship to playing Wycombe Wanderers in League One.

Although the players are obviously of the standard of the league in which they are playing and surrounded by the same standard of players....

Not conveniently forgetting anything. Of course I'd rather have Jones than Best, I'm just stating the facts.

Maybe we should go for 8-0 and keeping the ball for 11 minutes - with one of our goals actually ending the move.

AP's talk of us 'letting our hair down' reminded me that our keeper had extremely long hair that day. Someone told me once that he had vowed not to get his hair cut until he kept a clean sheet.

I was thinking a similar thing the other day.

Few on the Saints staff will remember that (and a lot of the players weren't even born then,) but it's still a painful scar in the memories of many older fans.

In those days, the mere prospect of travelling to Elland Road was a nightmare and some of their players were harder than their fans.

They were so busy laughing at us after the game, that they forgot to chase us round the car park.

I was there that day, along with a coach-load of Saints fans and believe me they chased us around before, during and after the game. I came out of that game covered in bruises and phlegm. I've hated them ever since! Without doubt, the most humiliating match I've been to so ANY win over them will be good.
