Echo lost the plot?

After the recent article, following their dispute, when Murrey said he misses Lowe, I think the Echo are looking more bitter.

This link yesterday is the Echo saying he is linked with an Italian job.

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4871585.Cortese_linked_with_move_to_Italy/?ref=mr

Then today they post an article mocking him saying the italians have never heard of him

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4873633.Italian_job_for_Cortese_____Nicola_who____/?ref=rss

They clearly have an agenda against the club and I have decided to stop buying the paper.

I am sure they feel justified and have the moral high ground but their job is to report the news not make it.

Enough is enough.

Did anyone start that Boycott the Echo facebook group yesterday?

Let's march on their offices and have a protest, we're good at that.

Finally we have a secure club and a united fanbase and those meat-jockeys at the echo seem determined to f*ck it up for us.

Grow up Murray...Nasty , childish and very amateur behaviour....You have a very poor record as a journalist and editor.....This whole sorry personal tirade at Cortese is juvenile and is akin to the way good old Uncle Rupert Lowe used to get out of his pram..

Mr Murray..your owners will be looking at your very poor style and replacing you soon..

Your own journalists at the Echo wonder what you are up to and realise they could go down with the sinking ship....Mr Murray you are a JONAH....

Arrogance of a failing loser....Seen it all before ...

COYRs

Sorry..Forgot your Love of Pompey...Mr Murray...LOSER.

Surely complaints should be sent to the paper's parent company. They may not be quite as relaxed about the situation when they realise that Mr Murray's vendetta is alienating the readership.

Like others I think this Echo thing is petty and childish.

BUT

Mr Murray is not as stupid as we'd like to think. He carefully covered his a*se in the first article by printing that it was rumoured on Radio Solent "who have commercial links to the club"

By implying it this way moaning to his bosses won't work, he paints it that the club's official mouthpiece made the comment.

Now the way to mess Mr Murray will be to get Solent to deny they said anything of the sort and request his source. Then there can be a row if that part was made up, but as it is - he's untouchable - he had a comment from a commercial partner of the club and investigated it. His bosses will say that was good journalism - which WON'T help the cause

Did you read the second?

Yep...

Look I agree it isn't NICE, but it can be classed as "following up on a story".

The last paragraph was petty and childish BUT the the core of the article was that he investigated a rumour and found it to be unfounded, AND quoted his sources.

He won't get the sack for that or for the last paragraph.

He COULD get the sack IF he made up the part about the comment on Solent, that was my point and the area to focus on. The press don't have to like anyone (look at Brown these days), they don't get fired in UK for holding an opinion or a political view, only for "being uneconomical with the truth"

I disagree mate. His bosses won't worry in the least about his investigative journolism skills - just his sales figures. This article is going to stop people buying the paper. They will see it as a nothing story, not breaking any ground, but managing to lose them significant money.

I heard once, but forget the figures, the huge difference to sale a Saints win makes. It shows how important we are to their business.

But this isn't a political view, it's a personal vendetta and a petty one at that! I would hazard a guess (if the comments on here and the bottom of the Echo web pages are anything to go by), this could well lead to a drop in readership. If that were to happen, Murray's position would become untenable.

the tabloid press back the popular party - people don't like Brown , so slating him sells papers.

I suspect that as the website doesn't give email addresses, the thing to do is to write to the Chairman & Chief Executive, Paul Davidson http://www.newsquest.co.uk/people2/pdavidson/

or the Regional Managing Director John Banks

http://www.newsquest.co.uk/people2/jbanks/

Otherwise, I suspect that it is quite possible that their emails might be pdavidson@newsquest.co.uk and jbanks@newsquest.co.uk

If anybody cares to send off emails to those two and report back whether they are returned as incorrect address or not, then if they're OK, I suspect that they will be bombarded by us telling them what a tw*t Murray is for alienating a large percentage of their local readership.

Nothing in the Echo you cannot find on the internet, like all newspapers, a dinosaur struggling to justify its existence.

Best ignored.

The Echo has a lot of content on Saints that isn't on their website and isn't anywhere else.

Not denying the dinosaur bit though. The local press is a dying beast everywhere.

Anyone that reads my posts here know I will always support the press against lazy sniping on these forums but today's Echo article is unhelpful and petty.

The two parties should be looking for a resolution as both parties need each other as both are key parts of the community.

The Echo aren't helping anyone now with this dopey new stance.

I really hope now Cortese takes them to court over this. I can't believe how pathetic the Echo is getting. Notice none of the journalists had the guts to put their name to this piece. NickG sums it up nicely. Echo writes a story and then writes another story the next day proving it wrong but try to slate it against the accused. ffs Echo grow up! :D

Someone told me yesterday The Echo were blaming Saints for not not raising enough money at a charity event at the club.

Turns out that both BBC South and Meridian were there. So sort of asks the question why did they print it? Their whole angle was it limited the exposure of the event. When if The Echo were such a key part of the event why did they not simply fund the event themselves and hold it away from St Mary's?

My last bit of respect for the paper and it's reporters went out the window with that report because it is sick to think they would try and use a campaign based on very ill people to take a snipe at the club.

The people of this city know the deal, they know The Echo was kicked out by Saints for not holding out a day on a promise of not revealing the full plans to the training ground. They printed it in the hope to make a few extra quid. That is what papers do. They are a local paper and need to know their place. In the digital age i doubt many people still buy their paper, they have no power. They cannot force a campaign like a national paper could. So they need to drop it and get on with their lives. The Daily Echo NEEDS Saints, Saints do not need The Daily Echo.

lets put it this way I agree with freedom of speech but this seems to be going beyond that to a certain extent - I'll be cancelling my subscription in due course.

Why in the last paragraph do they say Married Cortese, just seems a bit odd in the context.

I can only assume they trying to add fuel to the "he is off" fire as he is a joint Swiss-Italian citien - we are meant to read into it that he hasnt re-located to England permanently and that a move to mainland would take him back to his family. Thats what i got from it anyway.

To Kerrins, Murray and the rest of the second-to-the-ball churnalists at the Echo:

Nice copy and paste job - the Guardian story went up at midnight yours at 11 am- and you didn't know it was AC Milan - otherwise you would have announced it - i believe that's called a scoop in the profession. Like a 50-year-old virgin, its a pleasure you know nothing about. Yesterday's story was a simply another cut and paste job from a vague report Solent thrown in with the not so unpublic knowledge that Papa is on loan from Fiorentina.

Christ sake - is some consistency between stories "Italian job for Cortese? ‘Nicola who?’" and "AC Milan wanted Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese" less than 4 hour hours apart too much to ask for

Obviously AC Milan knows who Cortese is. Echo, you backtracking c**ts.

When I said "this" I mean the whole feud. I'm sure his legal team could find something. They really are publishing some quite childish things atm.

Whether they're posting "childish" things or not, it's nothing that would interest "his legal team" in any way, shape or form.

Bang on.

I've avoided commenting on this subject due to the totally one sided view taken by most on here but today's articles don't paint the Echo in a good light at all. The thrust of this article seems to mock the possibile Fiorentina link but that possible link seems entirely based on the Echo's own speculation yesterday...

AC Milan have denied any knowledge of Ian Murray or The Echo newspaer in Southampton...Spokesman at the Milan club.. commented..

"We only deal with professionals". The AC Milan spokesman went on to say our own Giancarlo Giorgetti supports The Mighty Saints and is a big fan of what their Mr Cortese is doing and has recomended that he, Mr Cortese be lured here to our club. We believe that many other top Italian clubs see Mr Cortese as a future president....

Echo: "A fellow journalist at La Nazione, a daily newspaper based in Florence, added: “I don’t know a Nicola Cortese."

How on earth is that news of any form whatsoever?!?

Random Journo from random town, hasn't heard of random board member of random foreign club.

if I was the Echo I would sack whoever ****ed up relations with SFC because without the club's support the Echo becomes even more pointless.
