that you think we ought to buy ...given the chance ?

and .. bearing in mind they will have a clear-out before next season..and that NOT all have such high wages...

...and that they will have to dump fees to get some cash in a bit quick.

There is of course the infamous hoodoo of having played for BOTH sides, but this is an issue over which neither club nor players have any real control. So, those of you who seen their players..are there ANY you think we might reasonably be able to have in a Saints shirt next season ?

Belhadj would definitely improve a league one side but is going to the World Cup and can go where he likes. We don't really need David James but he would be an improvement on Super Kelv in the short term. Tal Ben-Haim and Herman Hreidarrsson are decent Prem journeyman, so you have to assume they'd be more consistent than what we have. But they'll probably sign for Prem bottom-halfers too. Utaka isn't worth the money.

The rest of their "Prem standard" players either don't belong to them or wouldn't necessarily improve us.

I wouldn't pick Marc Wilson for Eastleigh.

Tal Ben-Haim is a shocking player these days & is no way better than what we already have.

The point is though, that even those that we'd quite like to see here because they are good enough, are on ridiculously high wages. They mostly only went to portsmouth in the first place because they were paid over the odds, (and maybe had the pill sweetened in the mythical 'brown envelope' too allegedly.)

One of portsmouth's ongoing problems even if they come out of administration ok, is that they won't be able to easily offload their high wage earners after they're relegated. cf Marek Saganowski et al. Why would Utaka for example go anywhere else whilst he is in contract?

I think Pompey will struggle to sell any of their players to anyone with their wages. Imagine in 2005 trying to sell:

Davenport - £40k a week

Jackobsson - £50k a week

Bernard - £50k a week

McCann - £80k a week

Not going to happen...

Gael Nlundulu, 17 year old winger from the youth team. Harry tried to sign him on the cheap when he left for Spurs. Bags of potential.

Another young lad poached from Paris St Germain at a very young age. No wonder they're crap and their fans are killing each other (PSG that is) they've gone down the old fogies route and just cast their youth potential adrift.

Still they've got no money (because they've handed it all over to fading stars)

Just like us the season before last really.

would they have any decent youth team players that could improve our youth/reserve team and ultimately our first team? would that be anymore realistic? from what first team players they actually own, most of them are in their 30s already and all are overpaid.

On target for I believe his 5th premiership relegation - which will be a first for the Premiership, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_Hrei%C3%B0arsson:

Gone down with Palace in 98, Wimbledon in 2000, Ipswich in 2002 and Charlton in 2007.

Hermann came into English football in August 1997, when he moved from Icelandic champions ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar to Premier League newcomers Crystal Palace and was one of the team's stand-out players as they were relegated.[/Quote]

Think that's known as a back-handed compliment

+1 - no point taking aging overpaid players, but worth looking at the pick of their youth. I believe they've already severely cut back on their scouting in the region, so it's likely we'll be doing a fair bit of that in the years to come.

We would never pay their wages.

I think Quincy will be a very big player in the future - I'm talking seriously big.

He left Arsenal though despite getting a fair few games there (I thought) and joined a Russian team (I think) suggesting that he's perhaps more in it for the money, and doesn't care too much about his career.

Whenever I've seen him play for Arsenal or Pompey I've always been fixated by him. He's an amazing player.

Released by Arsenal and not wanted by Moscow or Brum (or Cardiff actually). I've seen him a lot for Brum and without doubt his best two games have been against us (once for Brum and once with the skates). He's not amazing. Ask the skates and even they will not big him up. His wages are pretty big. Brum got shot and brought in three players: Boazza, Sinclair and Bowyer for less money.

At our level though its a no brainer.
