markr27 Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 Did OK IMO. Looks more a defensive minded midfielder than attacking, although could have got a goal had Barnard passed instead of shooting.

SuperMikey Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 You mean McNish? Wondered when I saw the thread name how long it would take for someone to say that... Seems that I underestimated us SaintsWeb members! McNish is a more defensively geared midfielder, and with time I think he could become a first team member. 70's Mike Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 no way to tell in the time he had but AP is at least giving him experience, may be loaned out next season but depends on how highly coaching staff rate him
Jack the Saint Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 Kept it nice and simple, decent performance.

RobM Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 Didn't do much of notice. I guess you could therefore say he did nothing wrong too. Defensive midfielders are often fairly anonymous during games as their job isn't do to anything fancy or particularly creative that would attract attention. So as long as they don't do anything daft, they don't often get noticed.

Tartarus112 Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 Did ok for his first game. Seemed to want the ball alot and made one good tackle that won us the ball back and lead to a shot. Looks a decent prospect.
John Boy Saint Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 I thought he looked ok seemed to get up to the speed of the game quite quickly with some effective passes (those of you noting he gave the ball away every bugger in our team does that so back off!). Nice to say hello to his proud Mum & Dad outside the ground after the game.
Saint Lindford Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 Agree with JBS, he did OK when he came on. Kept it simple with some nice touches and seemed to be comfortable on the ball.
S-Clarke Posted 24 April, 2010 Share Posted 24 April, 2010 did ok, nothing spectacular. Looked a little nervous with his first few touches, but after that he settled, and seemed keen to get on the ball and was going to look for it - which is always a good sign. good to see players like him given a chance. doddisalegend Posted 25 April, 2010 Share Posted 25 April, 2010 You obviously dont know anything about football then. What cuase I don't feel like beating the crap out of someone after the game? Just becuase I don't notice Hammond that much doesn't mean I don't know he's doing a good job when he was injured around christmas time we looked a poorer team. The fact is we have lots of showy players now who tend attract the attention more than Hammond (or Mcnish). Hammond goes quietly about his work and is important to the team but it's the likes of Wagio, Antonio and Lambert that catch the eye.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 25 April, 2010 Share Posted 25 April, 2010 He did kinda OK, but IMO he was far too slow at releasing the ball and did not look for a forward pass - nearly always having his back to goal and our forwards - which meant he got caught out. IMO he will have to improve very significantly to be anywhere near CCC standard which has to be the benchmark for prospective first team players now. I think it will be sometime before we see him on the bench again.

revolution saint Posted 25 April, 2010 Share Posted 25 April, 2010 I can't believe this hasn't been raised before. Within seconds of him coming on I said to my mate "Who is this central midfielder - he is so dominant". He totally bossed the midfield and did the simple things well. He did the complicated things complicated and I'm sure i caught him speaking Esperanto at the same time. Trust me, he's not just one for the future - he's one for Christmas too. Based on that performance he shouldn't just make the world cup squad - he should be picking it as well. Does that help?

Agree entirely with this assessment. I think Pards' debrief to him after the match should be that the default setting is to look forward for the next pass, not back. Providing he does what the manager asks (Lloyd James might want to note this bit) then I would say he has great potential...
Nexstar Posted 25 April, 2010 Share Posted 25 April, 2010 Didn't really do much to be noticed to be honest. Looks like one for the future potentially, just needs the experience of playing regularly, so perhaps a loan to a conference side?

saintsforlife7 Posted 25 April, 2010 Share Posted 25 April, 2010 I actually thought he did alright, his first passes were with his head and he got up well I thought, played simple as you would do on your home debut as not to make a mistake. Having him seen him in the reserves I think he has some potential, although he needs to add the dominating presence of a Hammond type player to his game and I think he could be seen a bit more next season! The9 Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 (edited) Didn't do much of notice. I guess you could therefore say he did nothing wrong too. Definitely did something wrong, first corner when he came on he was standing in the box doing nothing, Lambert ran to him to tell him who to mark, he sort of wandered around for a bit and then let the bloke run straight past him. Luckily the delivery wasn't up to much, but after that I kept an eye on him and mostly we seemed to be choosing not to pass to him. Wondering why he got a run out, he's been around in the reserves/youth for a while without seeming to make any impact, maybe Pardew's giving him a chance to hoist himself or prove himself. Now we're playing out the season we should see a few more of the fringe kids getting a run. Edited 26 April, 2010 by The9

The9 Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 Comes with the territory in the Northam unfortunately. It was pretty frigging lame, there are some right nobends in there who just want to slag everything off and try and act clever whether its detrimental to their team or not, and no mistake. As evidence : The "Who" to McNish, who must have been delighted at his warm reception from the home fans... The Papa Waigo "always offside" song - how is that supporting someone ? Not realising "pay up Pompey" just sounded like Skates were singing it in the derby Pitch invasion last season - and the same if there's one against Southend... And many many more... The9 Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 I can promise you that was not just the northam, and was mostly caused because the club started making announcements about not going on the pitch, and then the whole "attention stewards, attention" thing. That was due to the Northam, as a load of kids from the Northam, which had a line of police dogs, "snuck" around the corner into the Kingsland (obvious but unresponded to by police or stewards) and went on from there instead. The dogs and handlers walked out as the invasion was inevitable, and it went from there. Not sure what the excuse will be for the inevitable invasion this season, but I'm sure it'll have the effect of ruining the chance to see the players parade the JPT Trophy again. On the bright side, some mongs may get mauled this year.

I really hope there won't be. Most fans want to applaud the team (and management) after the season, not just watch a few hundred knobheads running up and down inanely. However in my experience knobheads usually do manage to spoil things for the majority, so I'm not wildly optimistic. K.

Chez Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 (edited) terrible first touch, then two 5 yard passes backwards. How anyone can say he looked good is beyond me. Its almost impossible to pass judgement as the game was over. The thing I would say is that he looked extremely laid back, perhaps too much for someone on his debut trying to show what he can do. I was excited at his inclusion as I'vre seen his name mentioned in lots of youth and reserve team reports, butI have a question, is he better than Gobern in that position? St BATman Posted 26 April, 2010 Share Posted 26 April, 2010 I like Gobern in that position, uses his long legs well to tackle and control the ball; a bit like a mish mash of Vieira and Wanchope!! Think he needs to concentrate on one position as he seems to have been tried out wide and in the middle as both an attacking and defensive force. Thought McNish was OK but will need to up his game a bit. Would have liked to have seen Oxlade-Chamberline given another go...

Chez Posted 27 April, 2010 Share Posted 27 April, 2010 I don't think so. That's what I thought. I wonder what AP thinks of Gobern. He seemed to get him out on loan pretty sharpish. I didn't get the feeling he trusted him, just as he doesn't trust Gillett. I wonder if both have the first touch that AP thinks they need to have to play in the middle.
