Jacksons Farm

Where did this story originate in the office? They would find it hard to get planning permission for that site wouldn't they?

It does however fit in with the interview he gave the BBC where he said stadium relocation was a possibility. I think he is right, St Mary's long term isn't big enough or good enough and it also has traffic problems. It may be easier to start from scratch than to improve St Mary's to an equal level to a new stadium.

55,000. Ha, no chance of filling that even if we did really push on! (Would love to be proven wrong though.)

And where actually is this farm? All this chat about it in recent years and i've not got a clue where it actually is.

Hedge End, I think the car pak at Hedge End Station borders Jacksons Farm, if so that would be a plus point. The chap at work who told me lives in the area and this story has been going round there for a while.

I think that would be the ideal location. Good transport links e.g. Airport and then plenty of land around for car parking and other buildings (possibly hotels, casinos etc).

yes, exactly. If he wants saints to be self-sufficient then having other avenues of income makes sense

Jackson's Farm is off of Tollbar Way. The big void between Hedge End & Boorley green.

For what it's worth, Can't see it happening. You would have to build Junction 6 of the M27, and all the surrounding roads will have to be redone. Not to mention the locals. They are currently outraged about the Rose bowl using some recreation grounds as car parks, imagine the uproar with a 55,000 seater stadium being built in their back yard.

They're all moaning (with some justification) round that way with the problems created by the Rose Bowl, traffic, parking, etc., can't see them accepting a 55,000 football stadium too readily some how.

Too far out of Southampton - not that I could ever see such proposals getting that far anyway.

Nicola doesn't ask for Planning Permission, the planners ask him for permission. FACT.

NC is the new Chuck Norris!

BTW - type 'Where do I find Chuck Norris' into Google, and choose 'I'm feeling lucky'. Old, but fun.

How does he know what the club is planning?

He did not say he knew what the club were planning, but it is a story that has been going round the area for a while, at the end of the day it will some one on a wind up on the back of the Rose Bowl extention.

This is exactly the reason. That part of southampton, along a bit rough, is actually worth a lot of money. I realise there could be some issues with the nominated use of land, but I wouldn't be surprised if that land itself was worth £20m to developers.

Jacksons Farm, although bigger is worth less due to location, but there is more chance of being able to build on the commercial side for hotels, shopping etc.

If those were the criteria for siting the stadium, then the obvious place would be Stoneham again, which has far better transport links and has the advantage that it was proposed already, before Lowe c*cked it up.

That would make more sense to me, however, the cost of this would be a lot more than placing another tier on St. Mary's which was designed with that in mind, traffic and parking could be thought through such as a muti-storey car park next to the stadium for example with large numbers of exits and priority when exiting.

Well, the rumour I heard quite recently was that there were still plans to buy up the gravel works and develop the waterside area opposite the stadium into bar/restaurant/shopping to increase visitors to the stadium in general etc. Perhaps if they cannot get this pushed through the next logical step is to develop Jacksons Farm.

I have to say that a J6 on the M27 would be a disaster as it's mayhem every morning now with west bound traffic entering the motorway at J7 and then trying to get off at J5. Unless J6 was only available on the east bound side and provided a direct link road to the stadium - that might work I suppose.

I don't think it is a daft idea at all but my guess is that Town Depot (if SCC still own it) could be sold given SCC are totally kaput and facing years of grant reduction. That would create the waterside retail that NC and ML way want and may attract further investment to improve the infrastructure to support a larger SMS if that's what they want. We would need the railway link to be re-engaged and a station built almost certainly which might be tricky but NC and ML have more clout so don't rule it out. The local authorities in the area - SCC, Eastleigh and HCC - are not in the strong position they were 15 years ago and crave inward investment. If that is on the table potentially then they have no option but to talk to NC.

Traffic wouldn't be a problem as games are played at weekends and night time in midweek not in the mornings at rush hour time. Getting away from the game might be a problem but it will be no different to what we encounter at the moment.

Seems a bit pointless as St.Marys can be extended to 54,000. It was also the stadium that got us into the debt and administration so id rather we just stayed where we are.

I think the new owners have a few more pennies than the previous ones, debt and administration is the thing of the past.

We do not have the fanbase to fill a 55,000 seater stadium. I suspect if we got to the Premiership, we would only fill it once or twice a season. One of those being games against the bigger clubs as I suspect Manchester United would have a fair bit in the home ends.

Extending St. Mary's in stages is the way forward imo. 45,000 is our limit imo, nothing more. It would be nice if they could make St. Mary's look a bit more unique so it don't look like Pride Park, Walkers Stadium, Stadium of Light, Cardiff City Stadium and The Darlington Arena.

Yes but I believe he may have stopped coming if rumours are to be believed.

Only an idiot would believe the rumours. Which some in the press did! As they would be ignoring the ash cloud disruption at the time and air space closures predicted over Switzerland at the time Liebherr would want to be heading back.

It was meant to be a joke but with the new system I could not find one of these;)

Sounds pretty ridiculous to me TBH. Would rather stay at SMS, where I can get the train in to Central, have a few beers in Bedfords, go to the game, have a few more beers in the Old Fat Cat, then wander back to the station.

A wink is always required on this forum as you can never tell when someone is serious or not. :D

I dont know whether the Rumour about the reason for Markus' non attendance for the last game or SFC's move to Jackson's Farm is the more realistic
