Saints sign Butterfield

Excellent, I have no concerns about the defence now whatsoever (Butterfield can play RB and CB I believe,as well as CM). Very pleased with this signing. One or 2 midfielders, a striker and a replacement for Bart and we'll be there.

Only another four needed then? Piece of p!ss.

Agree though.

Well if we sign Waigo then that is RM and the 4th Striker position sorted.

Another CM would be nice - Stock or Danns ideally.

Will get an update from the ITK player on Sunday/Monday when they return home.

I think a signing in the RL mould is more likely than Waigo (based on Pardew saying he wanted to sign a player like that) Perhaps a lower league player, anyone know if any of our trialists are similar to RL in terms of attributes?

What. The. F*ck.

11.45pm on Friday is the new 11am on Monday.

Sweet signing, but my life. This anti echo thing.... it's screwing up my mojo.

Cortese's only doing what any self-respecting newspaper editor would do ie. out-scooping his rivals to the advantage of his own 'electronic' newspaper.

Consider your mojo unscrewed and neatly ironed.

Presumably Pards is going to make him 'Butterfield 8'?

I presume your coat is on and you are exiting the door just about now...

Why thank you. I feel most flattened and re-oriented.

Almost deja vu for that Chiropractor i've been seeing this week.

Superb. As he looks as comfortable up front as he (probably) does in defence, perhaps Pardew might be thinking that he can use him as that missing piece of the jigsaw in our squad - i.e. A box to box midfielder? He seems to have enough pace and versatility for such a role based on that footage.

"Even when he found himself ousted from the squad, the club’s joker played a crucial role in the demise of another club. Butterfield found himself loaned out to Charlton Athletic for two months, providing some moments of comedy defending to get our friends from the Valley relegated. Agent Butterfield he was - and he returned to the club as a hero."

Made me chuckle.

this signing seems to fit the two good players for every position model, great to see such strength in depth and having 24 good players in a squad not 35 average ones like we had in our PL relegation season, a smaller quality squad is what wins things.

Saints flex financial muscle....

George Burley said: "I spoke with the boy Butterfield but he had already had an offer from another club and I felt we couldn't match that."

Hmmm....that article is dated 30th June. Which would suggest that Cortese has gazumped that original "offer from another club" as I can't see us taking 17 days to complete the signing.

Which means we outbid the club (millwall? QPR?) that outbid Palace?

Nice.

(edit: "outbid" as in 'were prepared to offer him better personal deal' as he was available on a free xfer)

Great player, will be a quality signing i feel but surely he wants to play more than a bit part which mkes the fight for RB even more exciting !!

To those who have seen him play, is he any good as a CM ? Or a DM ?? This could be a crucial piece in a crucial position if he is.

Great signing cheers AP/NC and team.

I assumed it was because if we go up we could probably attract better, especially considering he'll be 31.

No, players have more power than that, if he wanted more than a 1 year deal i would expect he would get it. I have not read anything yet however i would imagine that there would be some sort of extension included into the deal on both parts, i would assume he wants to move up to CCC with us, and if we miss out he can assess his options.
