First, there was this...

It appears Bournemouth have responded...

The second article is particularly funny; my best bit "easily got promoted out of the basement back to where we belong"

That’s the thing Bournemouth fans, you belong here.....we don’t.

I found this the funniest:

"They also offer a back four of journey men whose combined pace rivals Bradbury and Fletch. As well as a keeper who rivals Fletchers age and clearly couldn't get a club elsewhere."

Our back four are hardly journeymen with no pace and do they know Kelvin got offered a contract by West Ham last season?

I think looking at the league table has gone to their heads a bit.

They are currently top ..... alphabetically!!

You can just imagine them in their bedrooms looking at the league table on thier computers giving it a bit of :poundit:

I must smile having read all that...I just have no interest in what they think! We are just fans of a club a few miles up the road that has a history. There are a few fans who are arrogant and expect us just to turn up against teams like Bournemouth and win.

I'm too old in the tooth to worry about the fact we could lose to them - second game of the season in the cup would be fine! Pardew to put out a weakened squad for that game as we want to concentrate on the league. Let them have bragging rights for a few weeks until we repay them with respect fielding the first team!

I remember places like Mansfield - teams we should have steam rollered but lost. Games last season against the likes of Tranmere...well the players didn't look interested. I think this year there will be a new focus - a new drive! There won't be Championship journeymen out there but a solid defence, a battling midfield and hungry strike force. Not saying we will walk this league second time of asking, but we start on a level playing field without -10 points.

So if any Bornemouth fans read this...you may be top of League 1 on the BBC League 1 table - enjoy it as when the fun starts our fate will be to rise whilst I would be surprised if you maintain that status for long!

I think both articles are poor. I am not sure why anyone would go out of their way to have a go at Bournemouth? I think Eddie Howe has done an awesome job & deserves all the accolades he can get. We are in Div 3 on merit & merit alone - so are they!

Do I think we have a better side? Squad? Will beat them? - Yes to all of them, but dont under estimate a team of players who will regard beating us as just as high as staying in this division.

I fully expect to lose to Bournemouth in 1 of the games against us this season.Their fans desperately want to make us to think that they are our rivals. I do hope our fans don't let it happen.

It will annoy them more if we don't respond.Job done

Where does this supposed rivalry come from? I know we beat them once in the league cup at the Dell, Colin Clarke scored I believe, and he was one of theirs. But, most of their town is full of university students and retirement homes. It's an ok place for a night out or a day at the seaside, but, rivalry? Why? What have the Bournemouthonians ever given to us? Apart from roads, sewage...... :)

First choice back four imo is Richardson, Fonte, Seabourne and Harding/Dickson which is hardly lacking pace. Actually I would say on paper probably best defence in the division. Then first choice midfield of Puncheon, Hammond, Sneiderlein and Lallana is definately strongest in division. Then forward line of Lambert and Barnard on paper is a goal fest. Little BFC fans need a reality check.

Reminds me of the spat between TDD and DBP!!

I like B'mouth, I do, living just up the road from them, work with a load of B'mouth fans too and they're all nice and we exchange pleasentries all the time as well as good natured banter.

My mate (a Cherrie) and I go to Soton and B'mouth games regularly

I just hope the idiot elements of our respective fan bases don't make the rivalry out to be more than it actually is....

to be fair, I think the only people that will make this into a big deal will be the police (more overtime please) and the media (more sales please).

Most fans of both teams will be totally fine with the games and just have some banter.

I'll be getting the train over from Bournemouth with my saints shirt on and don't anticipate any problems.

Southampton wins draws Bournemouth wins

League 7 3 4

FA Cup 0 1 1

League Cup 0 1 1

Total 7 5 6

From Soccerbase.

We have only played each other 18 times and it closer than I thought and we havn't beaten them in a cup, ever. Still this season will give us a chance to go up to 11 wins.

Also interesting is that we have only played them twice in 50 years and other than the cups we have only played them in the third div.

I agree. Bournemouth have to be respected for what they have achieved with few resources. They are a hungry lively side and we do have a record of coming a cropper against 'lesser opposition' especially newly promoted ones. On paper we'll win, but until that happens our league status is the same as there's. Our own uncomfortable track record is still that of under-achievers. Don't let Bournemouth become our Brighton, our Swindon! We have everything to prove!

Bring on the derby matches! We'll beat them but we have to play at our best!

The only thing that is rediculous is the rediculous blog by RedArmyComrade, we all know where Bournmouth are in the scheme of things and so do most of their fans, it is just cringeworthy that he has rammed it down their throats, no wonder we get the label of arrogance.

End of the day, Howe has done a very respectable job at a club with limited budgets and a transfer embargo so yes, he is a good up and coming manager.

Pardew hasn't really done all that much, and is hardly the world class manager that RAC believes he is.

As for the reply from the bournemouth fan, he is right, we are at this level, they are at this level so we can hardly write them off, are we rivals ?? No not in my eyes, but then as was said they are a lot closer than Portsmouth are.

I recently said there is nothing more annoying than seeing a Saints fan in bewilderment when they finally see Bournemouth's retarded hostility/imaginary rivalry with us. It's still evident on this thread and it's also evident on second of those videos, with Saints fans openly congratulating them on promotion.

Now, I wish I could share the same feelings and make my own congratulatory remarks for AFCB fans, but I cannot. Sadly, Bournemouth is like Portsmouth's tiresome little brother; constantly squeaking out "Scummer" comments hoping that their big brother in Blue, Pompey, will look over and give them a reassuring and commemorative pat on the head.

Their obsession with us is also unnervingly weird. You're from Dorset, we're from Hampshire. We sliced you away from the county years ago..... now go away. Oh, and whilst you're at it, find your own radio station.

Still, some of us remain oblivious to their warped and contorted hatred towards Saints. Yet we still "clapped" when they got promotion. Bizarre.

They are not OUR little brother. They're Portsmouth's bastard sibling so let's treat them as such.

Agree, for Bournmouth at home that Freeborne garage won't know what hit it!

I really couldn't give a monkees about Bournemouth. I've never considered them rivals more than any other lower league seaside club. It would be like hating beige, it's just not something that stirs the passions to that level.

sums up my view

Do we even have a derogatory nickname for the cherries?

I refer the honourable member to two previous references:

South Coast Standings (tongue in cheek)

Saints

Aldershot

Brighton

Eastleigh

Skates

Bompey

Hasn't anyone noticed that it's the same writer/author doing both pieces, one as a Saints fan, the other as a Bompey fan?
