Statement from Nicola Cortese essential now.....

Tonight's result was a disaster. Judging from the incredible over reaction on the forum to this, combined with genuine concerns and rumours elsewhere, it would be good to hear from NC.

A statement on the official site and a radio interview would be good to calm nerves and keep everybody in the picture. Secrecy divides everybody and achieves nothing.

What do others think?

The problem is that a statement would probably be to the effect that '...we continue our search for a new management team...' and little more. We already know that - it would do nothing to aleviate anyones concerns right now.

Our concerns will only deminish once the new manager is unvielled - dependant, of course, on who that may be...!

I agree' date=' the fans do need some clarity from Cortese to ensure they at least stay behind the team. Banal statements from that Jordan Sibley, who looks like he only left school yesterday, are now insufficient.[/quote']

Why do we need a load more bullsh1t from the CEO? The only statement I want to hear is that a top level manager has been found and is in place, he has brought in 2 or 3 loan signings, the club are ready for our weekend league game and will stop at nothing to achieve our automatic promotion aims. Anything else is just meaningless waffle.

TBH I don't really want to hear what he has to say. What could he possibly say to change how disconnected I currently feel from the club? How could he make me feel like Southampton is the club I grew up with and fell in love with? I hate what football has become and I hate how we have now gone with it.

I do :

1) Why did you sack Pardew ?

2) Why at this critical time ?

3) Are you concerned about supporter unrest ?

4) You talk of stability, but your actions seem to contradict this, will it actually happen ?

5) Do you intend to be more transparent in future ?

and that's just for starters.... !

In any 'high profile' business, one would expect the CEO to confront the cameras and explain his stance/strategy !

But I can't think of any answers he can give that can explain away all his actions this summer and which are satisfactory enough for me to feel better about SFC.

But without asking the questions we certainly will never know !

I believe that it is his duty as custodian to be open, truthful and honest to his flock !

He won't tell us anything that we really want to know, so there's no point. It will just be some PR waffle. We want to know why Pardew's been booted out at this stage of the season, and he's not going to tell us. If he really couldn't work with Pardew he would have know this in May, and seeing as we have been told that noone else is lined up, then he looks like he has acted in a fit of anger rather than take a logical business decision. As someone who co-runs a sizeable business, I know that no decisions should made in a temper, and Cortese knows this also. He's made himself look unprofessional and he can't be happy with that. Pardew was saying last week that we could expect another couple of signings, which have now not materialised. I'm not suprised - most players would like to know who is managing them, so the timing of this decision looks particularly poor when other teams around us were strengthening.

This is not a new concept i'm about to explain...........LEAVE, just give up on football because its obviously getting you down, think of your health, go on just walk away and take your negativity with you. If we reach the premiership you could come back? Just an idea.....

I think that the lack of communication or a statement explaining everything clearly is a big mistake.

It is evident from this forum and Saints fans I talk to that everyone is either disallusioned or angry, and more and more "stories" are being romoured about every aspect of the club. Come on Mr Cortese clear things up, repeat your vision and plans and lets go forward as one.

I will also add that AP is replaceable, NC/Liebherr family is not, so let's get behind Nicola Cortese and the Liebherrs and remember what they have done for our club, or where we were before their arrival.

"Statement from Nicola Cortese essential now....."

You seem to expect a professional approach from the Leader of the Company. Looking back at how Cortese has ruined relations with news papers and ST holders wanting to pay by installments I think there is little hope of Cortese even understanding what the right thing a Leader should do is.

Yes AP was replaceable at the right time and with some planning. Something Cortese clearly f**ked up big time. Cortese is also replaceable and the sooner he is gone the better.

yes and we'll be right back where we started in May 2009, up sh*t creek with no paddle.....

Not really. If Blackpool and Burnley can get to the Premier League, no reason we can't. Cortese is definitely replaceable. If he goes, he goes and what will be will be. They'll still be a Southampton Football Club and we'd be perfectly capable of getting promoted to the Championship. We're not Yeovil or Leyton Orient - we've got a massive fanbase and great facilities and infrastructure, esp for this division.

No, the Club is now owned by the Liebherr estate and (we are told) is free of debt. With crowds of 20K plus we are a very viable company. Cortese lacks the experience and ability to run a Company.

Liebherr made Cortese agreeing to run the club a precondition of buying it. If I was his daughter (who probably has no great interest in running a club) I would continue with my late fathers wishes, unless and until it becomes a major hassle that she just wants to wash her hands of. Driving out Cortese would be just that sort of trigger imo.

Be careful what you wish for. If Cortese gets to the point that we are not worth his trouble you can bet your bottom dollar we will be up for sale. Bought by some chancer that wants a football club and uses the debt free assets to mortgage up to the hilt and borrow against the rest. Give me Cortese every time. This is the best opportunity we will ever get with the backing of the Liebherr family to make this the great club we have never been.

I really couldn't give a stuff that we have lost a pretty average manager that most of the time promoted a brand of football that gave me neck ache. Maybe now we will get a proper manager that concentrates on making a real footballing team and can work harmoniously with the other important parts of the club. I can't see Cortese making the same mistake again.

But Derry, I've seen you make this comment about every manager that we've had recently, so I don't expect it to change when we get a new manager!

FWIW I can only say to you what I said to St Richmond when he said the same thing the other day. You must be vertically challenged and sit in the front row if the football played so far this season gives you neck ache!

Yeah, and? As I said, what will be will be. Cortese is replaceable. Southampton Football Club will not die if Nicola Cortese isn't involved in it.

I'm not desperate to see him go, but I don't subscribe to the needy messiah worship that has taken over on this forum.

No, but it will very likely be up for sale to anybody who can load the club up with enough debt to fund a leveraged buyout.

Quite how he could sell something that isn't his has obviously escaped you.

If he wanted to pull out you can be certain that the Liebherr family would give him the job of getting rid of the millstone for a nice bonus and a nice profit for them. They after all only paid about £13m for the lot. Furthermore you can also guarantee there would be no more investment by them and as soon as the people that were attracted by the multi billionaire backing see them going they will be looking for an early exit. Cortese is the future, Pardew is gone, get over it and move on.

Agree massively with your first paragraph. Personally I thought we played decent football under AP and it could have been a lot worst. I know you think we played too narrow, but I think we had enough variety in our play to cause most defences big problems. the important tjhing now is that NC remains committed ot the club and the search for a new manager is conducted efficiently. there is no way that everyone will behappy with the new appointment but there are enough good managers out there - employed or not - that we can get a good one in. It just bneeds to be soon to ensure that we don't throw away 6 mathes while the search concludes and the new man gets used to the squad.

Nice to see a rational response whilst disagreeing in part.
