WGS sacked?

Ah but he was one of those rare things a saints manager who was kind of succsessful plus the way he left means that unlike most previous saints mangers most saints fans still like him, so we still like to talk about him sorry.

Yeah, I still like him too, but we can do that in the general sports section. Him getting sacked from Middlesbrough has nothing to do with Saints.

He has been a dead man walking for a little while, he has done such a bad job there. Nice to see him step down with dignity though.

It's **** or bust for them this season. If they don't go up this year then they'll end up like us, charlton, norwich, leeds etc - staring L1 down the face.

I bet Pardew applies for the job.

I imagine he might have more sense than apply to manage that club, they're only going one way this season IMO and thats the same place as us and Charlton. Bet Phil Brown offers his services though. Just goes to show though that some managers and clubs work and some just don't regardless of how well thay have or haven't done else where.

I wonder if I am able to put money on him being our next manager? I'm not saying Adkins should get sacked but WGS will surely now move back down here, possibly getting involved with local media etc... His stock has now lowered considerably and I cant see any clubs in any rush to offer him a job. When Adkins leaves he will likely be a logical choice what with him most likely living locally and his past success with us.

Good luck to him though, was brilliant for us. I just wish he wasnt so precious about his contract when Lowe brought it up.

Cortese would certainly win back some support if he reinstated WGS. I am not usually one for going back to the past, but the chance to get WGS back to Saints is not one to miss.

Sign him up!

Well that dispells the train of thought that a high post count makes your posts more credible:facepalm:

As much as we have found memories of WGS, are you really suggesting that we sack Adkins and put WGS in charge.

We were good for WGS and he was good for us, but it's over and Adkins is our man.

WGS did well for a period when BT Bridge Killer and Marsden were playing superbly together. When he had to make signings !!!! We were left with a poor and bare squad.

I still liked him but it was Emperors new clothes. he made us fitter and mean in defence but as soon as Briodgey and Marsden left we lost it.Then WGS decided to leave and let it be known and our spiral started then.

I wouldn't want Gordon back, there are very few past managers that left with any goodwill from the fans Gordon was one of them and his time in charge ranks as one of our best eras ever for me personally. If he came back it would a big cluster f uck and everyone would end up hating him I'd rather just be left with the memories of the good times.

Apparently the boro players lacked the passion and determination on the pitch which resulted in him leaving. Passion and determination are trade marks of successful WGS teams so without these qualities his managerial ability is shown up. He didn't have the most gifted squad at his deposal when at Saints but the players always gave there best with great team spirit and in hindsight probably overachieved.

To rip up his contract shows great integrity and honorable behavior, couldn't see many doing that in any walk of life, so credit to him for that. His press conferences while at Saints were the stuff of legends and more entertaining than the matches at times, you could smell the fear from the interviewers. I enjoyed his time here, but time to move onwards and upwards, WGS i'm sure is welcome at SMS but as a spectator only these days.

Good luck to him in whatever he does and it will be good to see him back in tescos at burlesdon!!!

The only reason he had some success at Saints was that there were few Scots players in his team. The one's he did start to bring in were absolute disasters. Had none of our foreign contingent been here he'd had been a disaster. Maybe the foreigners did well cos that didn't know what the F U *K he was telling them. Sad day but the wee man needs to take a long look in the mirror and see he's not Gord's gift to football :(

Bringing in a bunch of underperforming jolly jockos was never going to achieve success. The Strachan record at Southampton with them was grim stuff - Mr Telfer and the other short guy - an alleged winger but I cannot remember his name - he keeps appearing as a summariser on Sky for the SPL.

One of the funniest things was at a cup game away against Northampton where the pitch has a tarmac path round it. This means you have to scuttle across the tarmac in footie boots to take a corner - never an easy thing - and as a result of this plus the fact he was crap anyway his many efforts at getting the corner over the defenders head were pathetic. We were all stood close to this corner and a friend of mine stepped onto the path and offered to take the corner for him - and the stewards then threw my friend out. Classic. What was the players name please help?
