david in sweden Posted 23 January, 2011 Share Posted 23 January, 2011 NO... stop it ! I'm not being negative, ...but looking at the fixture list some of the higher placed teams have TWO games by next weekend and need only a few points to equal /go ahead of us in the table, whilst we have the diversion of playing Man.Utd. in the FA Cup. Of course - we can claim that we will have those league games in hand , but at present we have played 3 games more at home than away, so we must win 2 of 3 away games at least. Should be an interesting fortnight.
Golden Balls Posted 23 January, 2011 Share Posted 23 January, 2011 No panic. All we have to do is take care of our games and we'll finish at least 2nd, no matter what teams around us to. It's still in our own hands

But we still have to play them and so as long as we beat them it is still in our hands. That could change on Friday if they don't beat Colchester of course. Stu Man Do Posted 23 January, 2011 Share Posted 23 January, 2011 Lets not forget our GD is massivley better than most of the teams below us so even if they equal our pts e.g. Charlton, MK etc would still stay below us so unlikely we'd be out of the top 6 after next weekend. It's an opportunity for the players to test themselves against the best in the country and play in front of a full house and a great atmosphere. It's an opportunity for the manager to test himself as well. If we want to get back to the Prem this is a taster for all concerned of what we can expect every other week at SMS. It also provides us with a platform to demonstrate to prospective new signings the potential that we have. It's only a distraction if you think the squad we have isn't strong enough to play two games a week for a couple of weeks. Aren't you one of the people on here who think that we have one of the strongest in L1?

Aren't you one of the people on here who think that we have one of the strongest in L1? Whatever Delldays' view on our squad (what has that got to do with it anyway?), he makes a valid point. The game against Exeter will be very, very tough indeed. St James' Park is a small, dilapidated ground and mentally it will be hard for our players to get over the high of playing Man U at home and then having to travel down there mid-week, whatever the result. Whether we have a strong enough squad is wholly irrelevant - I personally believe we do, but this game will be hard.

It could happen, now they have signed BWP they have a significant depth up front, something we can only dream of, if only we'd signed him, Mackill-Smith and Austin, we'd only be two players short of having enough cover up front. Luckily for us, they were only drawn.

Matthew Le God Posted 28 January, 2011 Share Posted 28 January, 2011 if Peterborough game remains 1-1 (half hour to go) lowest we can go is 5th after this weekend Technically if tonights game does finish a draw or a defeat for Peterborough, the lowest Saints can go this weekend is 6th. Though that does require Oldham Athletic winning by any score and Charlton Athletic winning by a huge margin.

To be fair, unless Charlton win by 16 goals (the influence of BWOffside), whatever the result tonight we would not have dropped out of the top 6 following the midweek games as MK do not have a game this weekend. Likelihood is that we will still actually be 4th.

Turkish Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Excellent news, pity about Tranmere then, isnt it ? today result probably makes things quite awkward for you doesn't it. A win or a draw and you could bemoan our extra game (s) and the impact on promotion chances and the risk of injuries, get "thumped" as you put it and you could complain about the impact on moral as according to you if that happened we would lose our next two games and you could also complain about the weakness of our squad. However an unlucky loss and a good performance is In many ways this is probably the worst result you could ask for,we played really well and matched if not better than Man U, unlucky to lose and came through it with no injuries. It shows we have a decent team and squad, and i for one am bloody proud of our performance today, it's diffcult to find a negative, although i am sure you will. Au contraire, I am an extremely proud Saints fan this morning. Ferguson had to put his team back to full strength and take us serious early, and they needed ExtraTimeAtkinson's help as 12th man as well. I dont understand why for the life of me that you dont get that its possible to be 100% Saints and NOT share your opinions. You have some serious growing up to do, I think. The only question marks that arose for me yesterday were Adkins was a bit off with his substitutions and the bench appears weak.
