Anyone remember this kid who used to play for us?

He's 32 and playing for AEL Limassol F.C. in Cyprus, where he hasn't scored a single goal in 16 appearances.

Wikipedia has this to say about it, wonder if he wrote it himself...

He signed his contract with one of the top teams in Cyprus, AEL, after leaving Reading due to the fact that his team could not afford him. He appeared in many matches of the Cypriot team but has found it hard to score a goal. He showed the country he has the ability but he always ended up unlucky, he has been given many chances but he does not seem ready to score the 'easy goal' that his team wanted him to do.

He was pretty good. Well, good enough to get dropped by Burley of course. Still don't think 23 goals, if that is right, is great in a 46 game season. It's good don't get me wrong, but I'm amazed by top flight clubs look at championship strikers who don't score huge amounts at that level. Bothroyd hasn't got that many really this season, not many seem to anymore. I remember Kevin Phillips easily getting 35 in the championship. But maybe we had better strikers and less defensive teams. It seems at every level most games involve one team trying to contain the other now, rather than two teams playing football.

Rasiak would have been great in league 1 though. Rickie probably has more to his game with set pieces.

Don't forget that Rasiak, for some reason, was dropped to the bench after christmas. He had 18 goals by new years day.

Some players just don't do it some countries, irrespective of the level of football. (FWIW Cypriot football has improved in recent years but I doubt that's the issue).

Good player for us and worked harder than many people perceived.

Besides, THAT goal at Derby and the chant will always be remembered fondly by me :)

The goal at Derby and the celebrations after were probably the most i have ever celebrated a Saints goal :)

Kamil Kosowski plays for Apollon Limassol, were they at Saints at the same time? I imagine thay're both sat on the beach drinking brandy sours together these days.

Yes Kosowski and Rasiak were in the squad together for about 5 months, however I think perhaps only played a handful of matches in the same team as Kosowski was injured for a long time.

I can only find them being on the same pitch for 55 minutes together over these two matches :

CHAMPIONSHIP Sa 11Mar 2006

Crewe 1 - 1 Southampton

CHAMPIONSHIP Mo 20Mar 2006

Southampton 1 - 3 Watford

Rasiak signed in Jan 2006 but Kosowski only played 4 league matches in the time he was also a squad member and Rasiak didn't feature in two of those.

Rasiak is the only player who I regard as being simultaneously quite good and incredibly crap for Saints.

Yeah i didn't think it was for much...as for your last comment I think Kenwyne and Stern come a close second and third.

Think I was at that Crewe game. Re simultaneously quite good and incredibly crap, I would also suggest Carlton Palmer.

Really bizzare how some players have turned out. Rasiak was absolutely incredible in some games. I remember a Stoke away game where he was literally running rings around players - he was using skills I'd never seen before! Then other games he just stood there like a lemon.

Saganowski - I thought we'd found an absolute gem in him. One of my favourite ever saints players. Look at his hat trick against Wolves in our 6-0 thrashing of them? Then he just died off and stopped scoring.

As others have said, looked lazy but always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, which is a skill in itself.

ISTR that after notching up 18 goals by Xmas, he seemed to lose interest when the Chairman announced that some of our top earners may have to go in the January transfer window.

His goal away to QPR summed him up perfectly. Viafara runs the length of the pitch skinning (well, marauding) 2 or 3 players on the way, gets the edge of the box and manages to lay it off to Rasiak before being chopped to the floor, Rasiak taps in and while every players runs over to Viafara to check on him Rasiak celebrating runs off like he's won the league.

Guly's the same as Saga, he hit form just at the right time (before the transfer window), and looked like he was something until we signed him prfessionally, unfortunately he's unlikely to score many if any more for us imo.
