ericb Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 I think it's worth saying well played to them, they've achieved promotion before the end of the season and have fully deserved it. Hopefully Adkins will have the good grace to say the same after everything he's levelled their way this season. Now let's just hope that we can do the same, it's still in our hands and it's going to be one hell of a run in!

dubai_phil Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 Well done to them. Watched Poyet as a talking head during the WC & he impressed me with his knowledge but also his humour Well done to them up there, shame they'll probably lose Gus to a mid bottom PL team before their season is secured next year
Scudamore Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 They've been the best team this year. We've been second best. Simple as that Nige would say.
Micky Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 Got to hand it to them, they have been, and continue to be head and shoulder above anything else in the league. Tonight was just one example of the bottle that they have showed, twice they have come from behind to grab all the points - they just don't know when they are beat. I'm not looking forward to our game down there - I think they are going to want to put a few things straight - can't see us getting anything there. Thimble Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 ...Thanks people. Had to do it the hard way tonight coming from behind twice but fair play to the Daggers, they came and had a real go. We looked awesome going forward but without Greer we seem suspect in central defence so you may get some joy there when we play soon. ...But this is just the start of an exciting journey for us so there is still a way to go yet. I have quite liked coming on here and despite me not being fan of a South Coast love in I am coming round to the idea of it being quite cool if you came up with us...To have 2 South Coast derbies plus playing the scum will make for an interesting season... saints-cris Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 Gotta say fair play. Their embarassing hatred for us by some of their fans is hilarious.. but they have been head and shoulders above anyone this season, cannot take that way from them. I just hope we can go neck and neck next season.. two sides with big potential. Well done Brighton, you've rinsed it this season.
Crab Lungs Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 It's the start of quite an exciting new era for them and you can draw a few parallels with other clubs like Swansea, Cardiff etc; new stadium, promotion, full of confidence and a good manager. Would not be surprised at all if they have another excellent season next year as well if they strengthen wisely.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 12 April, 2011 Share Posted 12 April, 2011 Yep - as others have said, well done Brighton. Have always had one eye on their fixtures as it's my 'home' town, although always been a Saints man since we moved here when I was 4 yrs old. Been a bit weird this season seeing them above us and wanting them to lose sometimes so we'd still be in sight of them. Fair play though - they may not have better players, but they've got a better team.

It's just not *the* derby for either set of supporters. I too am embarrassed by some of the Southampton threads on our forum, but its not hatred - people just like to see the big clubs struggle, to say nothing of gobby opposing managers. Next season we'll probably go back to quite liking each others clubs.

Bristol are a little further away than you and thats not a derby. It is just a game between two clubs who dont have a long journey time between them. Brighton dont have rivals. Crystal Palace, that rivalry was started from one game where the Brighton managed offended Palace fans. Hardly enough to warrant a rival.

niceandfriendly Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Well done to Brighton, fantastic achievement. hamster Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 You ain't Champions yet though. So there! TFIC I think of Brighton as a (south Coast) derby, something a bit special. Maybe it goesback to the old Goldstone matches (FA Cup in particular) but it definitely much more special than the others mentioned. It may not be a 'local' derby but IMO a derby nonetheless. alehouseboys Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Congratulations well deserved and what a perfect way to move into their new stadium...looking forward to visiting it next season... As for a 'derby'? Well it's handy it's only 60 miles along the coast and we had some cracking away days there 30 years ago. But Brighton have finally got a real local Sussex derby with proper local rivals now that Crawley Town have joined the Football League...20 miles apart. And if they don't settle quickly into Falmer they could well find themselves playing them twice a season in 2012/13.

Professor Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Fantastic season for The Albion. They have the basis of a successful Championship team, a massive increase in income next season from gates of 20,000 instead of 7,000 and a local chairman who is a genuine supporter with the money to back them. If they can hold on to Poyet I can see them doing better than Saints, even if we do move up with them.
Capel Saint Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Yep, congratulations to Brighton who are worthy champions. Poyet has instilled a real winning mentality at the club which will serve them very well in the championship. Look where Norwich, Leeds and Millwall are who have the same type of manager. Lets hope Saints can achieve second spot and join them next season.

InvictaSaint Posted 13 April, 2011 Share Posted 13 April, 2011 Just been over to their board to congratulate them - genuinely and honestly - but got stick from at least a couple of them (Nigel "If they can keep up with us" Adkins haters, Harding/Hammond haters)! Most people just take a congratulations with good heart.. They are starting to build an inferiority complex the size of Portsmouth. Mind you, it's not surprising when they haven't finished above 20th in the second tier for nearly 20 years, about 15 of which we spent in the Prem. I actually can't be arsed to congratulate them, much more interested in what we can achieve.
