Thank you Nicole for this generous gesture. I'm sure all on here will agree with me that this is yet another example of the club engaging with the fanbase in the true spirit of Southampton.

Absolutely agree. Its great isnt it. a new kit to look forward to every year all for the annual spend of £40.

well done saints. a fanbase of well dressed fans not wearing last seasons designs.

I don't quite understand the moaning about teams changing their kits too often. No one HAS to buy every new shirt a team releases. The away kit I bought this season (in the sale I might add) is the first one I've owned since 2002.

We have a new sponsor so it's hardly surprising ...

The sash shirt was always going to be replaced for next season. But what i'm getting excited about is that Nicole has said that we will have new shirts EVERY season from now on.

It's a secret.

So he didnt actually say it then......

New kit this years gets rid of the one off kit that we planned to have for just the one season. Dare I say if we win back to back promotions there may even be a new kit next year to mark our return to the prem but I doubt we will be getting a new kit every year from then on.

I want us to have a new kit every season and am happy to shell out the £40 or £50 to buy the new home shirt every Summer.

I don't know where the assumption comes from that all fans only want a new kit every 2, 3 or 4 years.

It's been a new kit every season for quite a while now has it not!?

It's the same as almost every club!

Personally I'd prefer to see teams have 3 kits - one changing every year - on a 3 year cycle.

But it's all about the money though - isn't it!

Do what I do - buy a classic retro shirt. Saying that I bought the JPT final shirt as it was my birthday - and the 125 year anniversary shirt as it had no sponsor!

The Umbro contract was signed in 2008 for FIVE years, and it was announced that this would happen on the Official Saints site 3 years ago, so I'm not quite sure how this is Cortese's deal.

The Umbro deal was ALWAYS for a new home and away kit every season, and it was only going into admin that prevented us swapping the home kit in the Summer of 2009.

So if you want to blame someone... don't bother.

There's a bit here though it doesn't mention changing every season...

http://www.footballshirtculture.com/sponsorship/southampton-sign-umbro-deal-until-2013.html

Ah, here it is :

http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/new-southampton-shirt-release-details_1052

Leighton Mitchell, Head of Retail said:

“We have made the decision to move to a one year kit cycle for a number of reasons. Firstly the 08/09 season is the last in the current shirt Sponsorship agreement with Flybe and at this point in time we cannot confirm who the shirt sponsors will be for the 09/10 season.”

“Secondly, a one year cycle brings the club in line with other Umbro contracted clubs and many Premier and Football League clubs. A one year kit cycle will also help provide vital extra revenue to the Club.”

And was posted May 8th 2008. Well done for having your finger on the pulse though...

Is wearing an old shirt really that bad, and are you embarrassed about it or something? Who really cares? If you feel pressurised into buying the latest of everything then that's up to you, but the older you get, the less important it becomes. I am sure that not having the latest shirt isn't going to make you a "worse" fan.

I don't posess a season ticket and that makes me feel inferior on here.

I have a different philosophy - if I like the shirt I buy it if not I do not. I do actually have a lot of Saints shirts but probably more away than stripes. I never liked the Flybe ones because of the slab of plastic on the front but I did buy one of those for the JPT!!!

It's a link. Move the arrow over it and click the left hand button on the mouse.

Yes, and having done that already yesterday and discovered we were getting a new kit this summer, which I knew 3 years ago anyway, I'm still at a loss to work out why you think it's relevant or what point you're trying to make.

More new shirts = more jobs in Calcutta. Only a selfish person would deny a kid a job in a factory with a family at home to feed.

I just had a quick look, the sash shirt has "Tailored By Umbro in England" on the high-profile sticker inside the shirt collar where the label often is, and "Made in Thailand" on the washing instructions.

A new design every season means if you hate a kit you hate it for less time, and you're likely to find a shirt you really like every few years and buy that one.

Only a moron would buy the latest shirt merely for being the current one, without consideration of quality/design.

There's also the argument that people are less likely to buy a one year shirt for £40 due to built in obsolescence, but it doesn't seem to have hurt the sash sales due to the many unique selling points of that particular shirt.

Just for once I'd actually like to see a side say "we're going to reward our fans for loyalty" by bringing out a 4 year kit term of a classic design, charging £50 for it initially with the cost dropping a tenner a season, and launch an away kit annually to satiate the demand for a new shirt. But that's not the way the industry is going.

To all those who complain about the cost of replica shirts, you know the answer.

i wish we were a big club like man utd, they sell shirts for £10 at my local market and they look fairly close to the real thing just with a mis-spelt sponsor and different colour collar

I'd actually like us to make as much money out of kits/merchandise etc as possible in order to subsidise ticket prices.

I was actually quite surprised at the high quality of the rip-offs the last time I was in Tenerife.

What are you on about FFS ???

So, NO other Club in the Prem or CCC has New Kit design every season ???

I thought most of them do

The likes of Man Ure have a whole range

All Umbro teams all have all new kits every season, and this was the case when Leon Crouch announced the new Umbro deal in 2008. I mentioned it in the posts above. In addition, Arsenal have only kept the same home kit for 2 successive seasons once since 2003 and Spurs have changed their home shirts every season since the 1990s, and all 3 (or more) kits every season for at least the last 5 years.

Last season every team in the Prem got a new home kit except Blackpool, who got a new sponsor on their existing kit. Spurs had the front to launch 6 different kits due to having different sponsors in Europe to the ones in the Premier League - though at least they can blame Premier League rules for needing 3 kits in the first place.

Must have improved since I saw the 'Cristel Palace' shirt, or the very fake Man Utd shirt with 'Beckman 7' on the back.

C"h"rystal Palace managed to screw up their own kits like that once, so it's to be expected !

Jesus Christ stop bloody moaning, you don't have to buy. what do you want, a club that keeps the same top for a couple of years. The club needs to bring money in, not save the fans money. The whole world is the same SELL SELL SELL. Nexd thing your be writing on here that we should spend millions on players.

How much do people spend on jeans, t-shirts, shirts in a year?

Bet it's a damn sight more than £45 for a football shirt

I bet its not with freebie shirts from Companys and the fact that a tee shirt in Philippines only costs a couple of quid along with the shorts. All big name manufacturers no rip offs here i'll have you know.
