Forrens agent on Southampton

Thought this was a bit interesting: http://www.nettavisen.no/sport/fotball/article3608995.ece

The article is mainly about how worried a former norwegian international (Rune Bratseth) is about Forren not getting a game here. Forrens agent (Jim Solbakken) is asked about his opinions on the situation, and this is his answers:

Vegard Forres agent Jim Solbakken, urges patience. He claims that everything has gone according to plan so far.

- In general terms, I believe we Norwegians have to be a little more patient. Remember that Southampton brought Forren for a reason. The club knows what it is doing and has a plan for Forren, says Solbakken to Nettavisen (the paper).

- I think people should be careful not to comment on things they know nothing about. Forren has gone to Southampton to learn in the first place, and everything is as agreed upon, he said.

Solbakken is impressed with the professionalism of the team, pointing out that the team has done a very good season after promotion from the Championship.

- He came straight from the vacation to a Premier League club, and we can not expect him to go straight into the team. They have done very well after Forren got there. Southampton is extremely professional - one of the more impressive I've seen.

Wasn't he on his "off-season" holidays as well?

You don't run into a PL team rolling at full steam like that. Good to see that his agent is the first one to weather the storm. Compare his attitude with the likes of Odemwingie's or Samba's agents (and a good number of PL players) and you cans see we're moving in the right direction.

The only reason for this article is the fact that Solskjaers Molde, who won the Norwegian leauge last year, has started with four straight losses this season. So they're trying to drum up a "Forren back to Molde"-issue, which is just a waste of time.

Hopefully Forren still has something to offer to Saints. It does seem like time is starting to run out for his chances.

There should only be a concern that he's not playing if we are struggling against relegation. We are not. That allows him and us time to get him ready for the huge season that next year will be. It's a safe assumption that his arrival upped the performance and focus of the other CBs, which is exactly what the squad game is all about.

I suspect that sooner rather than later he will make his debut - and will be first choice alongside the CB we sign in the summer.

Why?

Maybe if he came in and played for 4 or 5 games and was dreadful then I could understand....but can't write him off before he's even played and only been here 3 months.

Wait and see until he has had a full pre season under his belt then we will see how good he is.

why should we be patient with players?!?!?!?!?!

If they are not immediately our best player a week after signing i am outraged!!!! It is just another example of how awful our transfer policy is!!!

We should have been more like qpr ffs!!!

I would expect to see Forren a couple of times once we are officially 'safe'.

Banging on about how long it takes to get fit is missing the point. We saw at the beginning of the season how catastrophic it can be to have an uncoordinated defence. It took an almost fatally long time, and some big calls, to fix it. Despite our steady improvement, we have remained in the danger zone up until very recently. On that basis, the manager would have to be absolutely mental to bring in a new centre back at that time.

My point is this: With Yosihda, Fonte and Hooiveld all ahead of him in the current pecking order, it doesn't seem like he's any better than what we've already got at the club at the moment. Injuries and fitness level aside, he should have been challenging at least Jos a long time ago.

The jury is still out of course, but the longer he waits, the less likely it seems, that he'll push Jos or Fonte back in the pecking order.

Another Cortese belter, soon we can have a Cortese XI

Gazzaniga

Forren

Guly

Ramirez

Mayuka

This side is really starting to take shape.............................

Gazza - 21 - looks a handy young keeper, will improve. Done ok when he was given a chance this season, but not quite ready.

Mayuka - 22 - barely played but looked lively a few times when he has come on. Be interesting to see whether hes involved a bit more next season.

Gaston - 22 - flashes of utter class, scored 5 goals, 3 assists. Not bad for a first season.

Guly - signed in L1 and had a huge part to play in our 2 promotion season.

Forren - 25 and barely played for us yet having joined unfit. Courted by other decent clubs and came highly rated.

You carry on writing players off though you utter twunt.

Poch said in his first press conference that Forren was signed for the future not to go immediately into the team. As posted above, I'd assume he might get a go in the team once we're safe, otherwise it'll be up to how he does in preseason whether he becomes a first team starter or not.

I wasn't particularly impressed with him in the U21 game at St Mary's.

Very interesting player - great distribution and passing and a good 'sense' of how to defend in terms of positioning and reading the play but as slow as I've ever seen play for us in any position.

Originally I wondered how on earth that would work with our high line but I can't remember too many times when the centre-halves have had their backs turned with balls dinked over the top since Pochettino took over. If anything it's been the diagonal over the full-backs heads but either way Forren looked like he needed lots of conditioning and fitness to deal with the pace and power of our league irregardless of a high line.

But it would be nice to have a central defender in the team who when he passes it forward knows what he is doing.

How long does it take to get "fit" how long does it take to learn "English"

he probably knows (enough) English - many Scandinavians lkearn a lot at school,

.....but even if he is " Saints fit " by now, we've been unbeaten in 5 games and as we're going for a higher League place (and bonus), I don't think MP will change the team just for the h*ll of it -.

If you look at MP's subs, he rarely, if ever brings on a defender for tactical reasons. The only time is when he brought Fox on to play LM and double up against Hazard. When you also consider that Fonte hasn't got a sniff under MP, the fact that Forren has been made to wait is not a huge surprise.

Did you lkearn at school?

(sorry, I don't know if you're actually Swedish or English)

I think give him a run out vs Stoke that will test his prem qualities.

Look at Yoshida, looked dodgey first few games now he looks like a decent CB who would walk into any side in the bottom half, his interceptions marking and last ditch tackles have been class yes his passing can be poor but point is he can defend and thats what he is required to do.
