Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 21 April, 2013 Share Posted 21 April, 2013 Would be good to go into 2 tough away games with a win. Wonder if Rickie will be fit, given he left the action early yesterday? Good chance of a win IMO.

S-Clarke Posted 21 April, 2013 Share Posted 21 April, 2013 Our game up there was our turning point in my opinion. We were pretty ****, but it was the first game of the season where we weren't taken apart time and time and time again and we actually kept the score down! So even though it was painful viewing, I think fans kind of saw it as a slight improvement and a turn in the right direction. After that we were 5 points adrift at the bottom of the league with the worst GD in the league. Our turn around since that match has been staggering beyond belief. Our form on the back of that game was excellent, we went on a 4 match unbeaten run and stopped the goals going in, and we've never really looked back since then. Liam_Baggies Posted 22 April, 2013 Share Posted 22 April, 2013 Not looking forward to this - It will be my last away day of the season so I would like us to finish it off for me in style but If I'm being honest - it won't be happening. We start the first half of games incredibly slow. We just look so cumbersome and one paced, your intensity and dynamism will cause us great problems from the start. Retaining the ball has been a struggle at times, especially when we've been pressed by the opposition so I expect that to continue on Saturday when you again press our midfield. Without Mulumbu (who takes part in his third match of his suspension) our midfield lacks any energy and tempo. He really is an outstanding player with so many facets to his game. With the loss of Odemwingie, we've lost our directness on the wings, he's been replaced by Graham Dorrans who is a very good footballer but not made out for being that wide midfielder for a team which relies heavily on counter attacking football. In addition to this, our defence which has looked so good all season is also having a wobble with both our centre halves losing that solidity which has been accustomed to them for the best part of two years. I'm looking forward to the day but I'll no doubt be coming home disappointed - Saints 3 Albion 0.

Hadn't realised Mulumbu was missing, which makes me more confident of a Saints win than I already was. Your season seems to have petered out somewhat, but that is no surprise given how well you started and the fact you were safe months ago. Still, 8th is a great season for you. WBA's season is probably something we will be looking to replicate next season actually.

We've taken 17 points since November which in anybodies book is cause for concern - it hasn't helped that the performances have also dipped but for the majority of those games through December, January, February and to an extent March, we've been without Yacob and Mulumbu. A partnership which has been so important to our success. Whenever one of those is missing the balance of the side is effected and the performances don't match those of when they are there. The stats prove it. What doesn't help is that Mulumbu picks up a ridiculous red card and for three games we're back to struggling again. We were quite fortunate to get a point on Saturday because throughout the first half we were undoubtedly second best and the game should quite possibly have been behind us. Question, was Ashworth responsible for much of your transfer policy and, if so, has he been replaced? I only ask as WBA have found some real bargains in the last few seasons and, depending on if they can continue this pattern, I think it's fair to say you could continue to make steady progress or drop back into mid table obscurity for a few seasons (by no means a bad thing! bite your arm off for that) ... Ashworth was responsible for the day to day running of the football club. The chairman sat back and allowed Ashworth to run the academy, sports science and recruitment. We have scouts across the world who report to Ashworth. He then goes and watches them in person. Our chairman says that every player must be scouted over a six month period. Its been a massive blow to lose him, however, he has been replaced by our legal secretary Richard Garlick. The role is quite new to English Football and it's incredibly hard to find a person who can cover all aspects of the job role. Garlick has worked as understudy to Ashworth and over the last few months, Ashworth has been guiding Garlick with the role. He's moved on now however still comes back one day a week to do a "consultancy role". Another key element in our appointment of Garlick was finding someone who would be able to work with our Chairman who is incredibly hard to get along - primarily because he runs a tight ship. Abrasive, loud characters wouldn't have been ideal.

Those people are already not listening to reason and will probably start fretting about points deductions if those results occur. We could be in the same position as we are now one thousand times, and we would get relegated precisely once.

Quote "If two or more teams finish level on points the team with the better goal difference will finish higher." Your example shows teams on different points totals so does not count in this instance. if both teams had 41 or 42 points then team 2 would be in the higher position. An extra point or higher position it counts in the big scheme as the same thing.
