disconnect Posted March 31 Posted March 31 "Southampton Football Club are pleased to confirm the signing of Japanese youth international Rento Takaoka on an initial pre-contract agreement. The 17-year-old forward will remain in Japan with his current side, Nissho Gakuen High School, until he turns 18 in March and will officially join the club." Havent seen anything more from the club on this - is he here now?
Edmonton Saint Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Am I right in thinking Stephen’s contract expires this year ? If ever there was a player synonymous with our fall from grace over the years , it’s captain Jack. 1

As we know, Walker-Peters' contract is up this season but at least we finally get rid of Lumley. Of the youth players, I'd expect we'd offer new deals to one of Derrick Abu or Lewis Payne, Will Merry and possibly Princewill Ehibhatiomham?
Chez Posted April 7 Posted April 7 football insider, yeah i know, suggests Ramsdale has a £25m buy out clause.

Over land and sea Posted May 26 Author Posted May 26 I have updated the opening post for the 2025-26 season and will keep it updated over the summer following the retained/released lists and further departures/additions. 7

Watched his early games for Cheltenham, got forward really well, good engine, crosses and assists. Defensively a bit more naive, gave away a couple of needless penalties but not the worst I’ve seen for League Two. Got injured but not sure that’s why he was recalled. Could get a League One move but I’d like to see him back at Cheltenham and Michael I suspect would be keen to have him back.

Would seem silly to release them both with KWP also going Interesting, looking at last week’s U21 play off final, the City commentator mentioned the young ages of most of the City team, and the comparative older ages of our team. As I understand it, three of our starters are out of contract next month. Payne has already announced his departure, Abu and the keeper, McNamara. Have I missed anyone? With a right back likely to come in, Bree, if he stays, would surely push Abu out, unless Derryck is considered a better fit than James medium term. With Lumley out of contract, is it worth keeping McNamara as third choice? (I’m presuming Bazunu leaves or goes on loan) Of the others, what next. Robinson, who didn’t play in the final but starred in the semi, has a clear future. The two centre backs both made the bench for the Arsenal game, and look able to push on. O’Brian Whitmarsh needs a good pre season to get himself in consideration for the fringes of the first team. Moses Sesay has a recent new contract. Larios seems too slight to make top level, and I can see him moving on this summer. Ballard has been mentioned many times on here. Opinions are divided but thoughts are that he doesn’t have the guile to make the first team, and I’m sure next season will prove this one way or the other. Anyone with better insight or inside knowledge?

Anyone with better insight or inside knowledge? To your point, the team certainly benefitted from having “older heads” in it. I’m sure we’ll go younger next season. I expect Abu to leave - too good for PL2 and I would imagine not quite good enough *yet* for the championship, but I expect him to work his way up - see Kayne Ramsay. 1
SuperSAINT Posted May 28 Posted May 28 I’m not 100% on this (& we will find out in due course) but I think Okonola-Matthews & Dibaga rolled into pro deals, so aren’t out of contract this summer. We shall see.

Not a great example of good judgement! He’ll not last long if the SMS faithful caught wind of him donning a skate shirt. On the plus side, sounds like he’s just the type if player to do Wills bidding, although how well remains to be seen of course. Edited June 1 by Saint Fan CaM Bloody auto text
Nolan Posted June 2 Posted June 2 (edited) 23 hours ago, Saint Fan CaM said: Know next to nothing about this guy. What position does he play and do we have reports about his performance at Goztepe? The most important thing to note was that he couldn't get the international points needed to get the work permit to play in England. Playing for Goztepe is a method for him that hopefully gets those points. Edited June 2 by Nolan 1
S-Clarke Posted June 9 Posted June 9 No real surprises in that. Lallana will probably announce his retirement in a few days, he may stick around on the coaching team but it may be that we want to clear all ties from last season on that front. I hope the club give KWP a nice piece on the OS now he's left us, deserves it after his service. One of the very few who is able to leave knowing he did a good stint for us. With Lumley and McNamara leaving there is 100% an opening for a first team goalie. If we've learnt, then it should be McCarthy as third choice, Bazunu as second (At a push) and a new first choice (that's assuming Ramsdale does leave, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't) 4
Saint Fan CaM Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Surprised to see Abu leave on a free - thought he looked a good prospect. Perhaps it’s a potent for whats to come in terms of many so-so players from the 1st team? Let’s hope so. 1
bpsaint Posted June 9 Posted June 9 KWP the only one I give any fucks about to be honest, how on earth anyone sanctioned the signings of Lumley and Lallana are beyond me. 2
Saint Fan CaM Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Great to see that our best striker Che Adams put in an impressive performance and scored a hat trick for Scotland today - what’s that…we released him when? Oh…
Over land and sea Posted Tuesday at 07:27 Author Posted Tuesday at 07:27 (edited) I have updated the opening post and compared that with the published lists. A few points to note, mainly relating to the U21s. Sam Amo-Ameyaw is omitted, reflecting RC Strasbourg's obligation to buy this summer Rory MacLeod and Izzet Furkan Malak (who were both loaned in until the end of the season) are in neither list so I've assumed they are not being retained. Same with Grønbæk and Ugochukwu Three players (Sonnie Davis, Will Merry and Khiani Shombe) seem to have had previously unreported contract extensions - I've added them to the growing number of undisclosed contracts Rento Takaoka was not included on either list. Neither was Joshua Quashie but he doesn't join until 1 July. If you include Takaoka and Quashie we've currently got 75 players on the books. Clearly that number will fluctuate significantly over the summer. Edited Tuesday at 08:45 by Over land and sea 4
disconnect Posted Tuesday at 08:26 Posted Tuesday at 08:26 Seems weird that Sonnie Davis has seemingly got a new contract at right back where Payne and Abu, two much better players (currently) have been released. Maybe due to club contacts with his Dad? Or maybe he's actually really good? 🙂

Tamesaint Posted yesterday at 06:34 Posted yesterday at 06:34 Interesting that KWP is the only first team regular to leave this year. Next year 10 players leave - all of whom have played in the season just finished. If we did manage promotion thisg coming season thr decks would be clear for a squad upgrading.
