Paul Chuckle Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 I am totally under whelmed by events at SMS yet again. Poortvliet should be sacked simple as that. If I was Surman or Lallana I would seriously be slapping in a transfer request this morning as I would not want to play for this Dutch clown. The sad thing is I think we are stuck with Jan even if we go down; this is Lowes 3-4 year plan That’s why at the next home game the fans really need to crank up the pressure on Jan as I can see him walking away if the pressure gets too much and that’s our only hope of getting rid of him. The Rover Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Poortvliet said the focus of yesterday’s meeting, which is thought to have lasted about half-an-hour, was on working harder, turning chances into goals and concentrating for the full 90 minutes. So basically what Lowe did yesterday was to give a half-hour team talk. It would have saved a load of money if we'd not bothered with the Dutch sextet (or however many there are now) and appointed Rupe's as manager. After all he's already got the monogrammed track-suit. What a laughing stock this club has become.
Weston Super Saint Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Excellent. We need more managerial change like a hole in the head. And anyway, we can't afford to buy new players or new management teams. We have to make do. Actually I'm surprised we aren't further in trouble having to play boys as a result of previous boards having spent £54m against £38m income from 06 to 08. Michael, Ken and Leon. A word of thanks to you all. Thanks. Rupert I exonerate. I'f he'd been running the club from 06 to 08, we wouldn't have spent £16m more than we earned. I blame those who were running the club from 06 to 08, not those that weren't. Gotta love those comments, looks like scooby has a new 'persona'

SaintRobbie Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 (edited) http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4062685.Poortvliet_promises_to_double_his_efforts/ it gets worse So let me get this right. Lowe goes to the training ground to talk to players and JP. 30 mins later he leaves and all of a sudden JP is going to double his efforts? So, Lowe is a genius and has - in 30 minutes - remotivated our ailing defeated squad... well as its a results based business we shall see how much leadership Lowe has. But also, Lowe selects a coach who has only been working to half of his capacity? Who's fault is that? I couldnt really see WGS working to half his capacity when he was here. JP admitting he is only worth half of a coach? Doubling efforts?! What does that mean exactly? Twice as many training sessions? More pressure for the kids? How do you 'double' your efforts when preparing elite sportsmen who are supposed to be operating at the top of their game, searching for a moral edge over their opponents as they are at a peak... and paid accordingly. I like the 2 x 0 = 0 analogy. It sums this up well. JP = complete joke, who now admits he has more to give when we're in a relegation battle and the most likely team in the CCC to relegate, and has only won x1 game at home all year. I am sorry, but I'd have prefered him to just have some guts and tell it as it is. I respected him more for his programme notes that seemed to me to acknowledge the kid experiment had failed. He still has some admiration from the fans who generally blame his Director of Football (Lowe) for this mess, but this sort of Lowe-induced nonsense and manipulation is further damaging his - limited - credibility. JP - I really dont blame you entirely for the circumstances you find yourself in - but take my advice not Lowe's ... RESIGN NOW whilst you can still work again in this business. The fans will shortly force you to if not. Edited 21 January, 2009 by SaintRobbie
Wes Tender Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Bak to the lower divisions of Dutch football would be best for the poor hapless fellow, I think. There, nobody will hold it against him that he came over here to a second division club, completely out of his depth, but also acting under considerable restraints imposed on him by the meddling and clueless chairman. Victor Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Exactly. If working twice as hard is the answer, why hasn't he been doing it already - not waiting til RL gives him some advice? How can he do more than he has been? If he's only been working at half his ability while we were stuck in the bottom places, surely that's a sackable offence. RL hasn't thought it through. dubai_phil Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Dear Jan I am extremely concerned to read in the media today that the outcome of the meetings yesterday is your declaration to work twice as hard. It is extremely clear to anybody who has watched more than one football match in their life that the club is in trouble, our results are below poor, the fans are angry and restive and the players themselves seem to not understand what it is that you expect them to do on the pitch. I would like you to please explain to me, HOW, with these circumstances, it is necessary for you to ONLY double your efforts AFTER you have had a meeting with senior officers of the club. I am astonished by your reaction, perhaps you have spent too long around young players, as the mere concept that a meeting with your boss should be the spur for you to redouble efforts reminds me of a young child being told off and then promising to do better. As a supposed experienced football coach, you should have already clearly SEEN that your efforts were not sufficient for the task at hand and you should already have been working at "200% capacity". There is no way on this earth that the fans of this once great club could understand how Mr Lowe himself could be needed to point this out to you. From where I sit, this, admission of not giving it all you have got, more than anything else in the past weeks is a clear public admission that you have been promoted above your level of capability. I strongly suggest that you, and the people who talked Mr Lowe into this "The Dutch Method" concept should pack your bags this afternoon and take the first available flight from Southampton International Airport back to Holland. We shall I am sure, turn our attentions next week to the person who allowed themselves to be talked into this mess, after we have placated the bank and brought in a manager with experience, tactical nous and a proper understanding of the needs of footballers to be MATCH FIT when they play a game of football at CCC level. To admit in public that you were not giving every ounce of your ability is a disgrace, FlyBE flight number 1017 departs this evening at 18:05, if your salary does not cover the cost, myself and some other fans will book your single ticket on line for you at our cost. one way of course. Up until that statement, I had some sympathy for your position, but you have admitted to not giving of all of your efforts. That is unforgivable in any position of life. Capel Saint Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Unfortunately I'm torn between wanting to stay up, just because relegation is never good and the emotion of wanting to go down because then the club would go into admin, get rid of this flippin plc, the current Board of losers and possibly someone can come in who can actually put some money INTO the club. Not me, I would still rather we win no matter who is in charge or on the feild in red and white. Im not saying I think JP deserves to keep his job or that Lowe has done any good since he came back but for purly financial reasons I can see why they are both still here. Any money in the tin and they would both be gone IMO. Times are bad and horrible decissions have to be made so all the shareholders put forward the fall guy to take the flack. Any sign of better times and they will all turn on him and try to take any credit. Sooner the lot of them are gone the better but I still would rather it be done via a take over than the risks in administration.

If we are saying that DMG is now doing more than most of the others on the pitch then we are in deep deep shyte. Yes he is the clubs top scorer - but that is his core role within the team - kick ball into goalframe. Much as Kelvins is to keep ball out of goalframe. So therefore I would actually expect him to be the clubs top scorer as Kelvin is clubs top 'saver'. Basically it's all about effort - many say that DMG appears not to put effort in most games - they can't all be wrong - and the main thrux of yesterdays meeting appears to have borne this out. More effort DMG, more sweat & more goals - hopefully.
