Pre video recorders there was always a big debate about what to watch. They don’t seem to bother too much now. Stuck in the past again. Get into the modern world man..

In this day and age I’m not sure I see the necessity but I admit I’m willing to be convinced otherwise. Other than “we’ve always had one”.
benjii Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I just answered his question. I don't have a strong view, other than the BBC seems miles better than most media organisations in the various places I have lived and worked 4

Most of its content isn't particularly great, or ground breaking in any way. Edited 22 hours ago by AlexLaw76

But for me, that alone doesn’t justify the need for a public service broadcaster. I think the Beeb has done some wonderful things down the years, and still does. I don’t think anybody is suggesting scrapping the BBC. It’s just for this particular subject, I’m just yet to be convinced by the mandatory payment of the license given today’s reality of being able to stream (and pay for) so much worldwide content by individual choice.

I also “pony up” for a load of rubbish I don’t want to watch on streaming channels. What did Springsteen say? 57 channels and nothing on. The BBC offers a great deal more choice across than many media organisations. I don’t think that anybody disagrees that there needs to be changes, but there will always be some who will find fault just because they hate the BBC. When I was growing up all I heard was that it was run by a bunch of “Commies” (“Pinkos” to some). Now all I hear is that it is run by those of the right! For all of its faults, this country has been better off for it.
