I never want to see Bazunu between the sticks ever again.

Better not watch another game until he's left the club then.

Gavin Bazunu has sensationally been dropped and banished from the first team squad ahead of Southampton’s local derby against Sholing by manager Dominic Ballard. The 37 year old veteran Republic of Ireland international has played over 500 games for the Saints, conceding over 1500 goals. This was after three clear errors in the 5-1 defeat at Winchester City. Director of Football Jack Stephens remains under increasing pressure from the 4,000 average attendance at a derelict St Mary’s Stadium with only one stand safe to use, not least since pulling a fan’s hair at the last home match against AFC Totton.

Reporter Alfie House (looking like Whitey Grandad’s Einstein avatar after 15 years of watching Saints under SR).

Of all the idiot decisions we’ve made over the last few years loaning out ramsdale and thinking baz is the answer is probably one of the most stupid yet ..  nearly the whole fan base knows he’s shit but obviously the decision makers know better .. one mistake like yesterday has us chasing the game and then we become even more open for things to get worse .. if still doesn’t see this soon you can add me to the still out camp McCarthy has to start

Makes you wonder what all the clueless idiots that thought he would be alright this season actually saw to come to that conclusion.

We should have signed the guy from Stoke the minute the Ramsdale deal was done.

Yet another SR fuck up which Still makes worse with every game he picks him for.  Clueless from Dragan down.

Add giving 'Skipper' a completely needless new deal, cementing his place at the club.

Continuing to play Bazanu, new contract for Stephens, the signing of downs, not signing a decent CF- nothing has really changed at the club. y

2 wins in gods knows how many games

Watched the game yesterday and felt nothing when we conceded.

Yeah but stats are meaningless, so Whitey keeps telling us. It's purely coincidental that Gav keeps finding himself at the bottom of these tables season after season. Just really bad luck and nothing whatsoever to do with his actual ability.

I'm eagerly awaiting the fanfare and announcement of Bazunu's extended three year contract. You just know its around the corner don't you?

Lighthouse will be a long soon telling us how unlucky he’s been. Absolutely nobody could have saved the goals he’s let in, especially not a bloke who can’t even get in the Newcastle team.

I wonder if he's still sticking to his insistence that Baz is perfectly fine for us in this league.

The same common theme is following him into yet another season then, this would be the 4th consecutive season the above would be true.

For a club which prides its' self in data collection and stats, we must be ignoring these on purpose for some reason. I'm yet to understand what that reason is, apart from self sabotage.

But as we've always said, even taking stats out of it, my own eyes tells me he's shit. I didn't need stats to tell me that the first goal against Hull was another clear error.

Bazunu is awful and has not improved at all .

And he never will and most recognise that but it seems those people who make the footballing decisions don`t for some inexplicable reason, so we are stuck with him.

Add in 2 dreadful CB`s and we can see where this will leave us...

It boils down to him not having goalkeeping instincts. Surely your youth should have been spent as a goalie to warrant being an elite professional in the position?

It's instincts and also physical profile. He looks tiny in goal, it dwarfs him. I saw a squad picture of us this season, and he was a midget compared to George Long and McCarthy.

He also started off as an outfield player, he was only converted to a goalkeeper in the later years of his development - which probably says everything you need to know.

Too shit to play outfield and now too shit to play in goal. Take up golf Gav ffs.

So he's like the kid at school who was no good as an outfield player so always got stuck in goal even though he was hopeless there as well.

It's a low bar but too high for the short Gavin Bazunu.

I think this for me sums it all up completely.  Watched him for the first time in a pre-season friendly (Villareal?) and what struck me initially was how physically small and unimposing he looked.  That obviously hasn't changed and I suspect is a reason why so many goals fly in, because (a) he doesn't fill the strikers eye line and (b) when the shot or header does come in he can't reach far enough to deal with it.

As many have said above, I viewed the unresolved summer GK situation as a true test of where our clear thinking and strategy was, and so far it doesn't look great (good save against Wrexham aside).

You know exactly what’s going to happen, Liverpool will smash a couple past him and the Baz defenders will be back. That’s  what happened with Ramsdale  last season.

There’s no comparison AM is a better keeper.

Surprisingly his stats show he is 6'2" tall so not really that small.

It's a really poor situation to be in, comparing AM to Bazunu, but you are right.

I saw that, but he just doesn't look massive in goal to me. Not sure what it is.

I mean Casillas was under 6ft I think, and he did alright. The problem with Bazunu is once you add every other limitation of his game together, it just doesn't look good. He's not 'excelling' at anything, physically or technically. It's a poor mix.

That's one statistical value where Whitey is spot on.  My eldest is a shade over 6ft and was obviously taller then Bazunu when we bumped into him outside SMS last Championship season.  Very diminutive for a football league level keeper this days.  McCarthy is 6'4 but looks at least a dormant Tall Paul over Gavin here:

Insanity is keep playing Baz expecting he will come good one day - a new definition by that time.

If he's a better keeper than he was an outfield player he must have been dogshit.

Shilts was only just 6ft, his dad used to get him to stretching exercises in the stairs when he was a kid to max his growth. But huge difference with Gavin - one of the most natural goalkeepers you would ever see in your life.

And very different times GS. Remember watching Phil Parkes in late 70s early 80s era and thinking he was a giant, whilst 5ft 8ins in platform heels Laurie Sivell at Ipswich played something like 150 odd games for that great ipswich side as paul cooper’s understudy.
