The fact a good save is credited as “world class” & people are waxing lyrically about the save, tells you everything you need to know about Baz. Expectations are so low, it’s probably the first time Baz has made a save you didn’t think he should. It was very unlike Baz , he actually made it harder for the bloke to score by abandoning his ghost alter ego and made himself bigger. It’s one of those where you spread yourself and hope the ball hits you, thatd nit a criticism as it’s an important part of being in nets. Poor miss from the guy, he probably thought 1-0 and must be worried he’ll end up with the unenviable record of being the only bloke denied a goal by a good Baz save.

He’s still shite though. A couple of times he could easily have collected crosses but didn’t, the only which went for a corner was embarrassing, if that was an under 15 keeper I’d be bollocking him for not giving the defender a call and collecting the ball.

I agree.  It was a good save but he was rooted to his line on a couple of occasions and let his defenders deal with a couple of balls about 3/4 yards out that he could easily have collected, resulting in corners against.

Can’t get a new keeper in quick enough for me.

This excerpt is from a scouting report posted by another user in the Peretz thread... Sound familiar?

Playing Style & Strengths

Modern GK: Comfortable with the ball at his feet, good short distribution, suits possession-based teams.

Weaknesses: Aerial/command of area: Biggest area for improvement – can be hesitant on crosses/high balls.
Experience: Still raw at top level; needs consistent games to develop (reason for loans).
Long distribution: Prefers short passes; less effective in direct styles.

Apparently us lot are the dense ones 😂. Crazy to think there’s people out there blind to how poor Baz is.

2 things can be true at once. He can not be up to the job and have a shit defense. The latter is especially true, and if the new keeper comes in and is below average, that might help us diagnose the actual problem.

Love how you conveniently left out the following under playing style and strengths:

Strong shot-stopping: Fundamentally sound, quick reflexes, performed well in limited Bayern outings (e.g., solid in Pokal and UCL cameos).
Commanding presence: Brave in the box, good mentality under pressure.
Athletic: Decent height and agility for 1v1s and crosses.
Proven at lower levels: Excellent record at Maccabi (44 clean sheets in 101 games) and Israel NT.

The only thing I take from that is that the goalkeeper is therefore incidental as a good defence will do it all. I thought he was there in case the good defence didn't. Sometimes the other team make that happen.

Just to be clear: our defence is shit, but we all know that.

For brevity, surely. Fair enough. But time will be a better judge than chatgpt.

I agree, and I would have hoped for an experienced GK, but this is SR we are talking about, so I guess I have to be content with the fact that they have identified this position as one that needs strengthening…

Probably the same reason why some fans find it impossible to highlight poor performances just because they can't bring themselves to criticise him...? ;)

A brief scan of this thread tells us the views on his overall suitability to Saints, in either the Premier League or the Championship.

The phrase "Baz is fine in this league" is completely an utterly laughable, regardless of the odd good/very good save

Nice side-step👍

You’ve forgotten the save from Stansfield already?

Who is not crediting him with a good save? It was a brilliant save and equal to scoring a goal

The frigging ball hit him in the chest as he was falling over...

Wasn’t that Augustin Delgado’s greatest contribution in his time with us ?

My favorite Delgado moment was the Strachan interview where he was more concerned about the yoghurt in his frigde that was about to expire, than Delgado's injury problems... That is a pretty good contribution in my book! 😄

In the same game he also got caught by Sol Campbell despite him having a 5 yard head start in a 20 yard run, then threw himself on the floor to win a penalty

I’ll never forget the highlight reel they showed on the big screen at St Mary’s just after we’d signed him, it was well before YouTube and he looked the real deal 😂 little did we know.

That save will be remembered all around the world..

Yeah, it's up there with the famous Gordon Banks save from Pele - maybe even better.

Banks was shit with the ball at his feet. Wouldn’t last five minutes in the game today.

Good job our scouts can see proper talent when looking for GKs

Ramsdale looked like a competent high-level keeper despite playing behind that defence in the league above. Bazunu wasn’t good enough in 2022 and not good enough now.

No one is disputing that he made a good save against Stansfield, and threw his face in the way against Millwall - credit to those. But you can't just look in front of your nose and ignore everything else.

This guy is still a fraud of a goalkeeper, and 1 or 2 saves every now and then does not change 4 years of total ineptness at every level he's played at. I look forward to the day we have the new guy in and we can stop these Bazunu chats, hopefully he just leaves for a nominal fee (no idea who'd buy him) in the summer and we sort out the GK properly.

Surely most people with a good knowledge of the game would say the benchmarks are -

The Banks one, in some summer tournament in Mexico before most people had colour TVs, and

Alan Blayney’s superlative save from Alan Shearer at SMS, on the last day of ‘the hardest league in the world’ season 2003/4 - officially awarded the ‘Sky save of the season’ later that day.

I think Blayney’s is generally considered to be the most memorable across the globe.

COYR.

I hope you are right. Ramsdale is a top keeper, and he is pure class in my book. You list him as competent. Others have used more underwhelming words. All to say that Peretz is stepping into a tough job. He probably has no idea what he just signed up for.

'Fine for the Championship'.

The guys who said that really need to come out of their rocks now and explain why they ever thought that.

3 shots on target and 3 goals conceded. How does this happen????

This simply doesn't happen with 99% of all other keepers. He's not made a single save. You can say what you want about the bad defenders but a GKs job is to be the last line of defence and save shots. It doesn’t matter how many fuck ups lead to the shot coming in, he’s there to block shots. Hes literally a hologram, it’s not even an exaggeration.

Release him, sack him because he can't do the job he was appointed for.

If I was appointed to do a job for a big company and it turned out that I didn't even know what I was doing, I'd be sacked. I wouldn't get a pay packet, I'd just get sacked.

Do it Southampton. gross dismissal for being a fraud trying to fool us into thinking he's a footballer.

Cheltenham paid off several players including Lee Angol who was on a few quid for L2 because they weren’t at the standard Steve Cotterill needed to keep them in the EFL.

If the Robins can do it on their budget, Saints can easily do it with Bazunu and a few others. Looks like Ben Garner won’t even start work either because even Tonda won’t survive today.

5 shots against 4 ended up in the net. The only one he saved he pushed out to their striker to score the rebound. Very unlucky today.
