Does not look like we want Rudoni, Sainz or Sargent then, very, very disappointing. Looks like we are massively struggling to get rid of any of the deadwood as well, a long summer of heartache ahead ?

Nope, our decision if he goes, simple as that.

Come on, you know it’s not that simple. If he doesn’t have an agreed release clause (which is unlikely) then yes technically we can hold him to his contract but there are many reasons that is rare in modern football - many of which are clearly exacerbated by using being relegated.

Sports Republic have got plenty wrong but they at least held out for decent fees for players last time around and I can’t see why it would be different this time. I hope nobody meets our valuation for him but if they do hopefully it helps us keep a competitive squad together.

Firstly the transfer window opened a couple of days ago. Secondly how the feck would you know?

Time will tell Hypo and tell me truthfully do you really think that we will get rid of some of our not up to scratch players  ? Even with their wages allegedly halved they can still earn a lot more here than at any club that is likely to want them. Aribo 75k, Sulemana 40k Armstrong 30k, Stephens 45k, Smallbone 25k, Bednarek 70k. Half those wages are too steep for a lot of championship clubs, unless of course you some how think that they can play at a higher level.

Chief among them, you can't sell yourself as a shop-window club to young players if you refuse to sell them when someone higher up the ladder tries to buy them.

Those players, bar Sulemana, are proven second tier/non-EPL players, Aribo starred in Rangers title win and Europa League run, scoring in the final. He has a market - perhaps Rangers again, bigger Turkish clubs, maybe Greece’s sides in European competitions. Bednarek’s release fee is only £6m - he is off. Jack has a broken wrist, AA scored 23 goals odd last time out and even Smallbone is a decent Champ midfielder in a central trio, if that’s the formation Still prefers. If he wants a two then Will probably leaves on a nominal fee but clubs at our level will want him.

It’s the likes of Larios and Bazunu who will be harder to shift as they’ve been injured and/or had terrible loan spells. They’ll be wage write offs on loan I should think for the rest of their contracts. BBD is tricky to assess - three rank spells at his last three clubs, but has some track record at this level. I suspect Still wants to see him first and ideally fully fit, which he’s never looked for Saints nor his second loan spell at the Blades. Type of player who needs a WGS-style fitness regime pre-season to get the best from him I suspect, and the players didn’t seem very fit overall under Martin after the last pre-season.

Gloucester Saint are the players the club want to sell going to earn as much at other clubs ? That just maybe might be why we will not shift the players we want to. Will be very happy to be proved wrong. Would you leave your job for less money ? I very much doubt it.

Is the deadwood the players who got us promoted last time or Fernandes / Ramsdale etc?

He’s being somewhat premature yes, however the clock is ticking…the next two weeks are extremely important and indicative of whether Still will be supported properly by SR or the worst of last seasons crop of misfits are deemed good enough to mount some kind of challenge. I don’t blame anyone feeling doubtful that there’ll be the necessary squad improvements - SR have previous.

The transfer window is not currently open!

It was open from 1st June until 10th June.

But it has since been shut again for the last week and won't open again until Monday 16th June.

So am I allowed to open my windows now, or do I have to wait until July? 😁

If we keep 1 of Dibling (can go for me), Ramsdale and Fernandes it's a successful window. If we keep AR and MF, that's as good a window as you can expect.

I also want Tall Paul to stay. His commitment, energy and pure Saintsy-ness is heart warming. Love the guy and think he has lots to offer this club and will only thrive here with opportunities. When he powered his first goal against Forest, it was quite emotional as many people said he'd never score for us...yet, he proved people wrong and scored for us. Not many but the service was shonky. We all have our favourites, and he is mine! Saints style through and through. No matter what...

Oh when the Saints...

It might be rare but doesn’t change the fact that if he leaves it will be the club’s choice to let him go.

50% relegation clause is the rumour, so Aribo won’t be on the rumoured £65k p/w next month for example. Galatasaray can easily afford that, they just signed Leroy Sane. So can Beskitas, Serie A most of, Bundesliga. Bednarek ditto, Roma’s bid was rejected in January for more than the £6m release fee.

Exactly - if we don’t shift all the deadwood and assemble an entire new team before the start of July, then we may as well give up now.

Totally agree but find the current odds on promotion about 2/1 rather baffling

Really?  Arguably would be much better for him than going to a current PL team.  A chance to compete for the league title in a top team whilst developing his game in a league of a lower standard.  And the bonus of CL, or at least Europa league football.  Seems a great option for him to me.

Can't see Porto paying what we want for him though so doubt this would happen

He got homesick when he had to move to Chelsea / training in Surrey.

Maybe he's matured a bit but let's see.

All that said we'd be asking for top dollar which i doubt they could stretch to.

They sold 170m euros worth last summer and only spent about a third of that so will have plenty to play with.

Not saying it’s not a good opportunity for him, but like CB said, he wasn’t happy at Chelsea so a trip abroad may be too soon for him. He may have matured a bit since then, but let’s hope he wants to stay with us for another season.

Even still, their highest ever transfer in seems to be about €21m. I can’t see them spending more than twice that on Dibling.

Think we're overstating the Dibling homesickness thing.  It was three years ago, when he was only 16, and for the money he'd be earning they'd be little difference in moving to Portugal compared to moving to London.  After signing he could afford to move his entire family/friendship group with him if he wanted.  And if homesickness is still such a big thing in his mind, why hasn't he signed a new contract with us?

Not sure it’s overstating homesickness as such. I do think however that trying to second guess a young persons general mental state is impossible if you don’t know them  intimately and somewhat fruitless. If the lad wants to stay with us then he will, providing the contract offered is of sufficient worth - if it’s not then it will be a decision only him and his parents will be able to fathom at the time with all the available options in front of them. As others have stated, there’s a lot of window to go to accumulate those options, one of which might be waiting to see if Saints will retain other decent players such as Fernandes etc.

Clubs bringing in loads more than they outlay is not necessarily evidence that they are about to splurge money on players.

The highest transfer amount ever paid by any top flight Portuguese Club ever ever is €25m.

No Portuguese club is smashing their record for Tyler Dibling.

If we get some kind of clever reciprocal loan thing in place then great but sounds unlikely.

“Shifting deadwood” is a skilful and delicate manoeuvre and one not really fully understood by most fans.

So we’re poor at recruiting in the first place, and poor at moving players on. Seems to be a consistent thread here.

Hope Spors changes things.

While that makes sense from a footballing perspective he's a bit young and probably wouldn't want to/like it. It is well-known he likes being near family, routine, etc. That's the angle that a lot  of people take: he won't want to go to ... wherever.

Didnt the club pay Man City a £1m for the young 'keeper?

That's Josh McNamara, who was behind Adli in the U21 pecking order (despite being a couple of years older). His contract is due to expire; don't know if it's been extended or anything.

We'll trade Dibling for three might-be-Fernandeses. They even have their own M. Fernandes (19yo RB, Europa League experience, YHGTI, if Sugawara goes then - competent as Bree is - replacing him would be nice) who would be an obvious pick for one of the three.

Have you factored in the contractual cut that most players have for relegation?  Or just assumed they are flat from last season?

The players you list would all be strong championship performers in my view, albeit I expect Kamaldeen to be sold

Yes they will be on half those wages, but still more than a lot of championship players, which is the standard for most of the players who end up staying.

The wages you listed look like nonsense. Plus last time we were relegated the Athletic reported the players had 40% wage reduction clauses.

Go  on the premier league wage site MLG and you might just retract your statement. Says Aribo on 70k before you nit pick. Remember they are cut in half for the championship. Allegedly.

Those websites haven't got a clue. They pluck numbers out of mid air.

I've even seen some take their numbers from FM, and I'm the one making those up!

It's just us apparently. Just us lagging behind with deadwood and not signing anyone. Nothing short of a disgrace.
