He’s been a disappointment so far this season, but agree would be a shame to lose that versatility. Though we do probably need to lose a CB and he doesn't seem to fit the physical profile of defender we want in the team.

If that was the case I'd be losing Wood, and maybe I wouldn't have signed Stephens on a new contract. Edwards is the sort you plan around, not ditch. He's never been given a chance here so it was an odd signing if we're willing to dump straight away.

Based on everything I’ve seen, he’s really average. Telling only QPR, a side more likely to be battling relegation than a top half finish, are after him.

I think the comparison with Tadic might be relevant. We had a portion of our fanbase who saw him as a lazy 'luxury' player. And then he left and absolutely shredded it at Ajax and even the doubters noticed his absence. He would have quiet spells and then pull out a piece of magic. 

Now all we need are Stewart Armstrong and Archer to start finishing like prime Pelle & Mane...

Been a total disappointment so far and haven't worked out what QPR fans saw in him. And that pushing stuff he does is intensely irritating. Yes he needs more games and it's odd if he goes so quickly, but we have enough centre backs at the moment.

Edwards played as a DM twice for QPR and not at all in previous seasons. Despite this he is clearly the 'footballer' amongst our back line. Could we convert him to a back up DM?

Regardless of how high QPR fans rated him, he’s not for us. How many other players from QPR would you take…? My guess is probably none.

He’s not going to be a regular starter for us though. 

The long term plan is to play (hopefully) 4 at the back. We don’t need 5 senior CB’s. Stephens (captain), Quarshie (new signing) and THB (most valuable) are not going, so leaves Wood or Edwards. We’re clearly targeting big and strong players, which would give Wood the edge.

Listening to Adam Blackmore it sounds like Azaz is virtually over the line. So that got me thinking about a team for Watford (and the blue few) and I realised that a Ralph style 4-2-2-2 might suit us better than a 4-2-3-1.

Norwich will really struggle this year I think. They lost Sainz to Porto and now Nunez. If they lose Sargent that's their 3 best players gone.

I think Wood is the least talented / least natural of our centre backs and always looks a bit awkward, but is a trier and has had a couple of decent games. If there was a choice between the two I’d persevere with Edwards as I think he has more potential.

Correct. Or a striker. I've seen quite a few media people mention us needing a striker but we've not really had any links and I'm not sure the club agrees. I'd love us to sell an attacker or two and sign one but that ship probably sailed when we brought Downs in sadly.

Not "fashioniable enough for SR" but I have always thought that Keifer Moore looks an absolute handful every time we have played him. He's a very useful target man and goal threat which, in my opinon, would have been a useful punt for little outlay. 

I'd still like us to go all out for Sargent, but I think that ship sailed when we bought Downs (who doesn't look oven ready, at all).

Let's face it we're not going to be buying a striker are we.  We've already bought one and regardless of how he's looked (very average so far) I don't see the board sanctioning another one.  What a difference a quality Championship goalkeeper and focal point striker (Ross Stewart??) would make.

I'd say below average so far. If you wanted to be harsh you could say a total waste of money and potentially putting our chances of promotion in jeopardy by squandering so much of our meagre resources on so little.

To be honest, I'd have said that on this board exactly the opposite was true: the ones acting superior tend to be prolific posters who tend to the negative and dismiss any positivity. I have no opinion on the latest players in the frame as I haven't even seen a highlights video, although I do prefer being optimistic in life. I _could_ have an opinion based on past SR form, but ultimately it's what we see on the pitch that counts, so I'm going to wait.

A team is more than the sum of its parts (unless it's a Russell Martin team) so hopefully the additions will act as a catalyst for improvement.
