Maintain the current form in the first 7-8 games next season and the fans will consign this to history. That's the best shot to get promoted less than 12 months from now. Doing the 'right thing' won't get us up next season.

Unfortunately I suspect the FA will ensure Tonda never manages for us again

Gone back an forth on this. Yesterday and the day before, I was of the mindset that we should burn it all and start again. Sack the lot. Spors may need to go I reckon if the analysts report to him, but I've come around to the idea of retaining Tonda. Yeah he messed up royally. The sporting advantage from any spying is minimal. There would be nobody on earth more determined to set things right here. He has been our best manager for quite a while. Next season will be brutal with the likes of West Ham, Burnley, Wolves, Milwall, Norwich etc. We can't afford to waste another half season backing the wrong horse. We have to get back up. So that's the question really. Stick with Tonda or open up the mystery box again. I'd stick.

Completely agree. Unfortunately one way or another he’ll be gone, the pitch forks are out and there won’t be many left standing at the end of this.

I've also pondered this on the main 'spygate' thread, but given the FA didn't sanction Bielsa / Leeds, on what basis would they feel justified in being able to deal with Tonda / Saints December differently, given the activities were the same, without being inconsistent? (Leeds more prolific, in fact)

Will Sacking Tonda make us any more palatable to the Media? No. We will have this hanging over us for the next year, whichever course we decide. 

Will Sacking Tonda Leave us better off in terms of Achieving Promotion next year? Also no. It will make it infinitely harder. Our rivals are probably desperately hoping we make such a move and finish outside the top 8, wasting another year of Parachute Payments. 

Will Sacking Tonda Reinstate us in this year's Play-off Final? No. Nothing can change that at this point, so it's abscence is not a factor. 

And will Sacking Tonda make it more likely that critical Player identification and acquisition will improve? Seeing as Bree returned, Peretz and Larin were regained or loaned in important positions under his watch, again, no.  

For all the hand-wringing moralising in the report, this isn't a Land Baron employing children to work in coal mines. 

Did Tonda try to gain us Maximum Sporting Advantage? Of Course. But so do 1000 teams who break a million rules related to fair play every day. Teams that dive, go down with fake injuries, or (allegedly) financially dope. 

Some people might claim that Tonda has to go, and "It's the Right thing". Be the honest club. 

This approach has never helped us. 

It didn't help when Gabbiadini wasn't offside.

It didn't help when Newcastle exploited Covid rules.

And it didn't help trying to compete in a league containing teams that (allegedly) work outside the agreed Financial structure.  

For the next few days, this is news. Then the World Cup hype begins. Interest in us goes away. 

As long as Tonda is not banned, we quietly get on with the business of retaining as much of the squad as possible, and recruiting where we need to. 

We realise that the chants from away fans are there anyway, get on with it, and aim for the top 8. 

 

Unless anyone knows of a Top Manager that will come to us in these circumstances?

I think he’s a brilliant manager but shit will stick. It’s obvious this whole debacle was endorsed by Tonda/ spors/ analysts. “Oh but he didn’t think it was illegal in the uk” what bollocks 😆. Oh sorry I didn’t realise I couldn’t sell my child, it’s legal in Afghanistan though!  Clear them out and restructure. Also, I don’t know about the rest of the saints fans but I don’t feel particularly proud of the fact my club allowed this to happen. Not sacking them sends the message we don’t care.

But are we going to stick with him, and then he gets banned by the FA in a month or two and then we’re stuck without a manager or a plan when the season is starting?

We’re still one of the wealthiest teams in the league. We can attract a good manager.

There's no point going on about how we suffer from being the "honest club" when we've just been hammered with the biggest punishment in British football history. There you go, we got a massive bollocking, we're not the nice club anymore we're the naughty club. Fucking great. Go us.

I’ve had this argument on and off throughout the day with people but must be living in an alternative universe. Are there still fans advocating for Tonda to be manager next season? Even after this final damning report of him bullying an intern into spying despite claiming he didn’t know it was against the rules? Like the gross misconduct and bringing the club into disrepute charges weren’t enough 🤯

His job is more untenable than it was an hour ago.
