I don't think its arguable that he's signed some top talent - Jander, Scienza, Azaz, Fellows, Jelert, Roerslev etc. are all very good players for the champ, at least 2 of them will go on to play at a much higher level given their ability and ages (jander and fellows). There is a good player in Quarshie as well. Downs was a bad buy, but frankly his record on incoming transfers is pretty good. Jury is out on Peretz, but on paper he's his country's starting keeper and had enough about him to play for bayern 3 times last season.

Manager wise though, appears to not be so hot - although we really don't know what happens behind the scenes, been plenty of rumours/noise about interference, and it cannot be a coincidence that basically every manager under SR has reverted to a back 5, and that we cannot keep hold of backroom staff or seemingly Director's of football (all of which have left saints for bigger clubs so far).

Aren’t most of those out of contract at the end of the season ? Or is that just wishful thinking ?

He’s a typical SR signing, scored a good goal once, featured on YouTube so we’ve followed his career closely ever since. And as he hasn’t repeated that achievement since, we convince ourselves the ‘form’ will return once he pulls on a Saints shirt. 

We need a few more duds to select from.

Yeah, linked in the summer.  One time wonderkid who got a big move to Monaco but hasn't done anything of note since.  Doubt there's much truth in it and looks proper gash now.

I'd argue he's the opposite of a typical SR signing. He's 27 so not some untested kid from Man City that we'll look to develop.

We were reportedly very close to signing him in the summer, but I thought he was more of a winger than a striker and we went for Fellows and Scienza instead. So it could just be lazy journalism, who knows.

Either way, I think people need to get check their expectation levels. We're a mid table Championship team and it's the January transfer window. Anyone we sign is going to be a punt to some degree. It hasn't worked out for Guilavogui at Lens but he had a decent time in the Bundesliga.

image.png.86c0f94e53dda1558154894a552c6079.pngIts a bizarre one... Mainly a right winger, and his minutes per goal stats are terrible. 457min this season, 303minutes per goal the season before... and a grand total of 2 assists in the past 2 seasons of league football.

Also, as everyone should be well aware of by now, we don't play wingers, we play wing backs and full backs (depending on how much of the pitch eckert wants to cede to the opposition).

Why are we being linked?

take into account that Gyorceres was banging goals in left right and centre perhaps shows the talent pool is not that high with defenders

I’d have Bree and Taylor back now, they’d both be an improvement on what we have currently.

Im still surprised that Sinclair Armstrong has never pushed on, he looked so good at first at QPR but now gets little game time at Bristol City. He seems to me a classic Championship forward, big and strong.

It seems he is a winger rather than the big number 9 that we are lacking. Also, his scoring stats over the last 2 season are woeful. 

So, probably got mileage in it.
