St Marys or St Mary's

[East Kent Saint]

It seems to be normal to type St Marys on here but reading the BBC report of a great win today they wrote St Mary's , so what's the correct version ?

Still amazed at a 5-0 scoreline !

It's obviously St Mary's, because it's named after St Mary's Church, as in the church OF St Mary.

Well I guess it's difficult for her to be the legal owner of any kind of property, given that she has been dead for over two thousand years (if she even existed in the first place, of course).

Almost everyone at work under 40 uses the grocer's apostrophe to denote plurals and stare blankly when gently corrected. I reckon their teachers must be to blame, as it is now so ubiquitous.

St Mary's is correct. The Club was originally formed as St Mary's Young Men's Association (YMA), which was an association connected to the Church "of St Mary" (hence St Mary's). So the Stadium name is a nod to our founders in 1885.
