Lord Duckhunter Posted Saturday at 16:23 Posted Saturday at 16:23 (edited) wrong thread Edited Saturday at 16:24 by Lord Duckhunter
tdmickey3 Posted Saturday at 16:24 Posted Saturday at 16:24 Just now, Lord Duckhunter said: Unbelievable result without 2 of our stand out players. Peretz showing why he’s a top Keeper, 2 strong centre halves ( Jack has been superb since his return), full backs particularly Bree excellent. Prowse had an excellent game, and we got away with playing Jander, but he did get stronger as the game wore on. Matsuki was ok, his goal moved his performance up a bit as I thought his all round play wasn’t quite at the level. Finn good again and Dobbin had his best game by a mile. Subs all contributed in various ways, even if it was only for a minute or 2 in the City lads case. The only disappointment was Leo, missed a couple of pretty easy chances (luckily we banged in the rebounds) and gave the ball away way too easily when we were under the cosh. Continuation of his lacklustre start to the season. Wrong thread mate

LiberalCommunist Posted Saturday at 20:10 Posted Saturday at 20:10 I could see a loan move to the Hammers in Jan panning out. How shit would that be. Felt like a strange move, going to a Villa side who never truly seemed massively invested in getting him. Add to that a new baby. Plus having to live in the midlands. I'd sack my agent! 1
Willo of Whiteley Posted Saturday at 20:11 Posted Saturday at 20:11 My guess is he was signed for the FFP home grown quota 1
hypochondriac Posted Saturday at 22:21 Posted Saturday at 22:21 I'm sure he's content with the massive salary and reckons he will get a chance eventually. I bet there's at least a small part of him though that would love to be part of the success here. 1

We've currently got a great partnership with Schlotterbeck and Jack Stephens and Wood who is capable as back-up. Unless injuries or a massive drop off in form from one or two players then priority will be a Larin-type back-up. Imo. Most likely go to someone like West Ham if he drops a division. If he could be a back up centre forward as well then yeah by all means 😆

Definitely think a CF is priority but as posted on the Schlotterbeck thread; Wouldn’t be surprised to see a CB bid relaunched in January. We tried for both Falchener and Affengrubber before bringing in Abbot, and you wonder if he has Tonda’s confidence.

Isn’t there some rule about not being able to play for three teams in a season? I think he played in the cup for Villa, so he can’t go anywhere else in Jan. Guess he’s stuck getting paid loads just to train.

I just wonder if the Zach Abbott loan muddies the water a little in terms of a January recruitment. I don’t think there is a break clause for Abbott in the season long loan deal. Maybe there is room for another CB in January, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Abbott is CB4 of 4 and that’s our lot. Saying that, I’m hoping that we sign another striker in January to emulate the Larin / Stewart dovetail we enjoyed last season, and I think if promotion is still looking on the cards it will look more realistic, especially if Mubama fails to step up at all. Both loanees have made minimal impact but I’d imagine they’re not bargain basement wages we’re having to shell out.

A lot will depend on how their own clubs view things. Forest/Man City loan them out for experience and if the players aren’t getting game time they may well agree to recall the player and send them somewhere else where they’re more likely to play regularly. 2

Fabrice29 Posted Sunday at 17:33 Posted Sunday at 17:33 (edited) If Villa don’t think he’s up to the level yet then sending him to a lower level isn’t going to achieve that. He’ll do what happens at big clubs sometimes, made to train daily at the level required until he’s trusted on the pitch. Still unsure why people care though. Edited Sunday at 17:36 by Fabrice29 1

THB is currently considered not good enough to get into the Villa starting line up. Given the last club he played for was us, how is loaning him back to us suddenly going to make him good enough to get into their starting line up?
bangkoksaint Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago THB Good enough for Burnley in The Championship but not considered good enough for the Prem Good enough for Saints in The Championship (twice) but not good enough in the Prem Transferred to Villa in the Prem and currently not considered good enough May e there’s a theme?! 1

gio1saints Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Some of Our highly regarded and probably best players of recent years don’t really play all that much once they leave to join a EpL club. Nor collect medals or international caps. They certainly get more wages. No secret. Matty Fernandes, Tyler Dibling , KWP, JWP and THB - none of them have set the EPL on fire. Even our kid in Serie A is hardly smashing down doors. Same with other top rated former players from the championship- piroe does not play, Hackney rarely on. It’s like Saints can sell the sizzle but rarely is the player up to it. Who knows if Leo is going to join that list if he gets poached by a Tottenham?

Saint Matty 76 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think a lot of the names above could have quite easily been predicted by our fanbase on whether or not they'd push on. For example, I think we all believe Fernandes and Charles to be players who can go on to really big things in their careers. However, we have always been quite consistent in the belief that neither THB or JWP were brilliant players. Dibling was the iffy one that was quite hard to predict where his career would go, although I personally always believed Everton to be a terrible fit club-wise. Likewise with Scienza, good player and a good lad, but if a Premier League team suddenly picked him up I would have absolutely zero expectation of him doing well.

Azaz surrounded by better talent and I'd also make a case for Larin if we had two much better wingers either side. Jander for me is a certainty and I'd also (from what the little we've seen) back Schlotterbeck with a better surrounding three. Scienza/Downes also probably get big roles when(!) we do go up this year. Anyway, very off topic!

Some of these players should be in the squad but they shouldn't really be starters unless they can prove themselves. 1

Well he was 20 when he played for Burnley and 22 when he played for us in the Prem, Centre backs tend to peak in their mid to late 20s, Van Dijk didn't play in the premier league until he was 24 for example, 2 years with us before getting his big move. I think he'll go on to become a decent, solid premier league player, not top 6 level but definitely to early just to write him off as not good enough. 2
