Best inadvertent match thread ever.

How about:

Usual GK and back 4

 -------Downes------

---Charles---Jander--

Fellows-----------Edozie

----------Larin--------

Get a really solid platform out of possession but allowing Charles and Jander to get into the box and feed off crosses into Larin.

Azaz in reserve if we need more in the middle.

Wouldn't play Charles after he was so poor yesterday. Rather give Bragg a start.

Larin in for Stewart

Edozie starts

Fellows only used if desperate, he's been really poor for some time now

We should get more space as Coventry will attack us, so I'd keep Azaz in.

Anyone heard when Wellington is due back. He gets us up the pitch at pace, which is crucial with Scienza missing.

I would play Azaz when the opposition arent going to play a low block. And Charles was really poor last night

I think this will play out like the Leicester game towards the end of 23/24. Running out of steam after a run of tough games and griding out good results, only to come up against a much better side and getting absolutely bummed.

Of course I hope I am wrong, but I reckon 4-0 Cov.

He's one of the best midfielders in the division and should be relatively fresh at this stage of the season. I wouldn't drop him on the back of one ropey match.

Good point re Azaz.

@franniesTache can we do a forensic exam on this posting style

Remember the FAB are watching.

I am supposed to be meeting him at Coventry station on Saturday, I am now concerned that when i step off the rattler instead of being greeted by  @Noodles34 I shall instead be met by The FAB's armed Stazi wing ready to bundle me into a re-education gulag.

We will miss Downes if that is the line up (although i think he will be partially rested). Will have to repeat the Fulham game plan (minus leo).

Treat them like a Prem team because that's what they are. Sit back and hit them on the counter.

They have a nine point advantage over third so have one foot there already I’d say.

Certainly need to up our game.

He was very good until he got injured. Hasn't been the same since.

Apart from last night he has actually. Like everyone else he seemed to be way off last night. The whole team and the performance stunk.

Can’t see us getting anything out of this to be honest, they seem to have found another gear this last month and are in the home stretch.

Perform like we did last night and it’ll be a hammering, they don’t fuck about in front of goal.

No Scienza is the worst possible outcome against this lot. We do have the squad capable of getting a result but it depends which version of us turns up.

Peretz

Bree

THB

Stephens

Manning

Charles

Downes

Edozie

Azaz

Fellows

Larin

There’s a couple in there who don’t deserve a start, but the way Coventry play should hopefully help the likes of Azaz. We’re always better against teams who don’t just sit in a low block the whole game.

We seem to have a real problem with clubs that put players behind the ball. Coventry won't so providing Tonda doesn't do a brain fart and revert to 5 at the back, we've got a real chance to get something from this match. The danger is he forced to rest too many potential match winning players

No mention from the club about Scienza's fitness. Given we play Norwich next Wednesday, there's a chance he might even be rested. Similarly, Stewart's 'tightness' might mean he's also rested. Middlesbro fans said Azaz goes missing in key games. He need to find some of those threaded passes in this match.

I think Saints are a very good 8th place team and that's were we will be end next season. There are some positives from the wasted first half of season and have played some brilliant football  but;

Too slow

Take too long on the ball in all areas

Not enough creative play

Can't play good football in both halves generally

Can't defend corners

Still obsessed with risky passing back

No prolific scorer.

Any of the teams above us will take advantage of Saints weaknesses the worry is that teams below us also play much better than expected. Scienza and Ross out will be a big hit. Coventry win 4-0. It will be a miracle if we win almost the same v Arsenal.

Can't we get a proven goal scorer on loan? Even someone from Deby, Watford,  Stoke, Wolves, Spurs there must be someone who has 15 goals wanting a play off chance.

We don't have a creative team. Take Scienza out and its RM robotics football. The tactics doesn't allow for any skill to get passed players

TBH bragg wasnt that much better either...imo. BTW whats happened to Robinson?

Without Downes and Scienza, might as well stay at home. The midfield battle is so crucial in this type of match and a preferred midfield of Bragg and Jander will struggle to dominate.

Up front it has to be Larin irrespectie of Stewart's availability.

Let's hope that Wednesday evening was a low energy blip; a similar showing tomorrow will sink any ambition of a play-off place. Unfortunately it is a must win game that we must win which seems unlikely.

He's a young lad in his first season at this level, we should not expect too much of him however good his potential.

If we defend in a low block, win most turnovers, get it quickly into the red zone, use our pivots effectively whilst maintaining an effective use or our false 9s so we can over achieve against our XG I can’t see anything other than a 2-0 win.

Genuine question - from what I can understand, this new 'low block' term is simply parking the bus, yes?  Why is football such a load of bollocks now ...

Pretty much, sitting back, defending deep etc etc.

it is FAR more complex than that. You’re simply highlighting how little you know 🙄

Yep. Park the bus. Loads of the new terms are changes for the sake of it.

'Double pivot' was a midfield 2 or pair once,  we don't have sweepers anymore either as they've become a ball playing centre back, the midfield general is now a single pivot, a box to box midfielder is apparently a number 8 now, an attacking midfielder a number 10, etc.

All nonsense to excite the kids.

It’s highly amusing listening to parents in their 40s and 50s talking this way. A few ago I was subjected to a tactical analysis of our teams performance by a dad in his 50s who has never kicked a ball in his life he only started watching football a few years ago when his boys started playing. We won 3-2 against a team who hadn’t lost for 2 years. Apparently for the last 10 minutes we were too negative, the midfield double pivot was unnecessary, we should have gone to a mid block and our CAM faded out of the game second half. He then went onto tell me that his son is a perfect number 10 because he has a good shot and despite playing CB or centre mid for us, his school and Harrogate Towns u13s we’d all got it wrong so hes not able to show his skills higher up the pitch

It's what happens when everything becomes gentrified. Football is such an enigma
