Kane was gutted , standing foot slipped as he kicked the pen , still managed to hit the bar though ! The game was much better than the usual fare in nations games I managed to watch to the end ha ha !

Two points, I'm sure they over water the pitches as I saw several players slip for no apparent reason. In the pre match blurb with Ian Wright etc the sprinklers came on and the water being sprayed was crazy amounts. For me so soon before a match equals slippery surface. I guess they did it at half time as well. This is not the first time Kane has slipped taking a penalty.

When will they learn just as saints are still struggling to get to grips with, faffing about with the ball deep in your own half is a very dangerous game especially when the opposition know that you are not very good at it.

Not to take anything away from Larin but his assist consisted of missing an absolute sitter which he kicked straight at the keeper when it was easier to score, the ball came back and rebounded off Larin into the path of the scorer who tapped it in.

Peretz doesn't do clean sheets. It's been nearly half a year since his last one in a league game. I'd feel far more confident if Ramsdale were in goal for the Pompey game.

It's well worth having a look at the highlights of Shrewsbury v Colchester which finished 2-2. Moses Sesay on loan at Colchester was superb and scored both their goals. The first he picked the ball up in his own half and ran to the penalty area before slotting home a low shot. The second came very late to earn his side a point when he smashed a shot first time into the top corner from inside the area. He also took his man on and beat him a few time and looked a very good player. I imagine he'll soon be knocking on the door to get some game time for us.

Two good finishes, although lucky to get to the box due to a shitty tackle for the 1st.

He does look really good - hopefully this is his season he shines on loan and then does well for Saints next.  Their goalkeeper looks horrific though ...

These sorts of players will be worth their weights in gold next season if we don't go up and we have to rely on our youth prospects to some extent at least.

Three immediately prominent answers are Gomes (we got £170K for a potential generational talent on that one), Ballard, and JJM. The last 2 would be playing for us this season 😄.

So two players who chose to leave, which we were powerless to prevent, and another who we let go because he'd done nothing on loan in League 1, needed a fresh start and is now doing fairly well for the mighty Bristol City.

We weren't powerless to prevent them leaving, we opted to allow them to leave rather than pay them their worth. That's a choice the club actively made. And as has been stated to death, Ballard should have been retained and thats abundantly obvious. He should certainly have been given game time over the multi million pound flops we've singed in the interim, or worst case he should have been given a new contract and allowed further loan development time.

Not that "abundantly obvious". He's signed for Bristol City not Barcelona.

Let's see where his career actually takes him.

The other two were kids who were attracted to better offers.

Southampton Football Club do not control the world. Not everything is decided by us. People make their own choices.

Life is a bit more complicated that you're making out.

No one would give a toss about Ballard had Downs turned out to be remotely competent.

He was not and to be fair, a complete joke of a signing (and a very expensive one). The club clearly believed he was a far better bet than Ballard (and a whole host of other, evidently superior striker on the market/in the league that summer.

We were the powerhouse of the league and we saw a very bright talent leave and signed the DOUBLE D.

That’s not true though is it ? There’s a difference between paying them “their worth” and paying them what they think they’re worth.
 

For JJM we weren’t going to match silly money for a teenager reported at the time that he’d been offered at Chelsea. 
 

Gomes is a shame he left but at the time I read that one of his gripes was limited prospects of a pathway to the first team and not being involved or around the first team often. Perhaps mismanagement or perhaps someone at SFC at the time didn’t think he was that advanced.
