Whitey Grandad Posted 15 February, 2009 Share Posted 15 February, 2009 OK, let's try and look at it objectively for a moment: we're 4 points behind Norwich who are 12 goals better off, so we need to win at least two games more than them by the end of the season. With a real manager who could instil a proper discipline and sense of purpose then we might have had a chance. As things stand, we're doomed. I have a seaking suspicion that Charlton could suddenly get a couple of good results so I would say Saints, Watford, Norwich from the bottom up. LostBoys Posted 15 February, 2009 Share Posted 15 February, 2009 I would not like to predict 3rd from bottom as it could be one of four but I think we will be bottom with Charlton above us both with 10 points adjusted because of administration
Nineteen Canteen Posted 15 February, 2009 Share Posted 15 February, 2009 24th Charlton - a 2-0 win over anyone but Plymouth would suggest a turnaroud in form but it's merely a blip. Soon be back losing. Poor manager, bigger debts than us and even more reliant on youth. 23rd Plymouth - Can't buy a win and surprising they stick with Sturrock although difficult call with his illness. Regrettably, managing a football team and suffering from such a wasting disease is not compatabile and I have nothing but admiration for the bloke and the club for sticking by him but I think that honourable loyalties will be their downfall. Pity because they are IMO one the league's good guys. 22nd Norwich - Brian Gunn or Mark Wotte for a manager? Survivors - Barnsley, Southampton and Watford. Saints have played two tough fixtures and played with some desire and purpose and were unlucky not to get at least a point each from our last two games. Whilst our next two home games look tough if we can get 2pts by playing as we have done with the way Wotte is developing their playing method we can look to start getting the 6 wins v. Ipswich (A), Derby (H), Blackpool (A), Charlton (H), Palace (H), Sheff W (A). It's also not inconcievable we can get results draw or win v. QPR (H), Burnley (H), Forest (A). Defeats looked booked for Birmingham (A), Wolves (A). If by the final whistle of the Derby game we haven't won at least one match our fall back options will be decidedly limited but at the moment there is plenty to remain positive about with the changes Wotte's management style appears to be bringing. One caveat I don't understand why McGoldrick stayed on and Saga came off today but he made the right call with dropping Lallana so assume there was something not obvious to the rest of us. It was strange but not quite Burleyesque bizarre.

St Landrew Posted 15 February, 2009 Share Posted 15 February, 2009 (edited) Norwich Charlton Saints In that order. I'm pretty convinced SFC will finish bottom too. The others might dig themselves out of the crap - anything's possible..! Except the inevitable probability of a second relegation, for this club, in 5 seasons under the same chairman and hangers on. Useless..! Hang your heads in shame..! EDIT: If it wasn't so bloody appalling for us, I might have some sympathy spare for Norwich and Charlton. They're practically in the same boat. But as I say, they might save themselves. On form, we're as good as gone. Edited 15 February, 2009 by St Landrew

SNSUN Posted 15 February, 2009 Share Posted 15 February, 2009 Unless we can miraculously find form, we'll finish bottom. Not that I think we'll stay up, but if we can string a couple of wins together then we won't be propping up the league. My prediction is Saints 24th, Charlton 23rd and 22nd could be between Donny, Norwich and Barnsley.

aintforever Posted 15 February, 2009 Share Posted 15 February, 2009 (edited) Agree with the first poster, though I think it will be close between plymouth and Norwich for the final spot, Saints and Charlton will be down long before the final day. 22nd Plymouth 23rd Charlton 24th Saints At the moment we are in a false position, we've lost to too many crap teams at home. When the pressure increases away wins will become harder to come by and the young players will not be able to handle it home or away. It's all about how you handle the pressure at this stage, as you get towards the end of the season the pressure doubles in each game. Our young players havn't been able to handle the pressure of playing at home even when the games didn't mean that much. West End Saint Posted 16 February, 2009 Share Posted 16 February, 2009 I think Dell days is right about us finishing bottom the Donny & Forest games at home did it for me and since those games I have accepted that we will go down what a difference 6 points in them games would have made but alas it is not to be and I now think we will suffer that ultimate shame of finishing bottom. I think Charlton & Barnsley will go down with us. UTS Lowe out
