Rupert Lowe - The most hated chairman ever

Mole

Recommended Posts

Doug Ellis (Villa)

A bit of an enigma really because he oversaw their decline and then their rise back through the divisions. One minute a benevolent benefactor and seemingly at one with the fans. The next minute clamping down on spending, sacking managers and reviled by many Villa fans.

So when will . .

Nah, I'll leave someone else to ask.

George Reynolds at Darlington wasn't a popular man!!!!

Alex Hamilton at Wrexham (not sure if he was Chairman though).

Guterman at Wrexham (and Chester).

Ron Noades at various clubs (including stints as manager)!!!!

Deacon & Gregory at Portsmuff.

et al.

We have not had a monopoly on poor Chairman/CEO's/MD's by any stretch of the imagination.

For some reason Football either attracts nutters or turns normal, sane, rational people into nutters!!!!!!!!

Luciano Gaucci (Perugia)

Among Gaucci’s maddest moments are trying to sign a female player, sacking South Korea’s Ahn Jung Hwang for scoring the goal that put Italy out of the 2002 World Cup and playing Serie A’s worst ever player who also happens to be Colonel Gaddafi’s son. Needless to say the club are now in bankruptcy.

Jesus Gil (Athletico Madrid)

The former Athletico Madrid chairman passed away in 2004 but during his 17 year reign of terror he managed to get through 39 managers, 80 court cases and threatened to ‘kill’ his players a total of three times. He was also notorious for his right-wing views and has spent time behind bars.

Vladimir Romanov (Hearts)

Often referred to as ‘the man who has broken Hearts,’ the Lithuanian (ahem) banker is renowned for short relationships with staff, interfering in team selection and buying a nuclear K-19 submarine. He’s currently in rehearsals to star in his country’s version of Strictly Come Dancing.

I reckon one of them could give Lowe a run for his money;).

I'll let you decide which one I was thinking of LOL.

Am I right in thinking that Saddam Hussain was in control of the Iraqi national team, and I think I remember reading that the players were threatend with death if they lost!!

Might be wrong though

almost right !

it was his son,Uday Hussein, who was Minister of sports-and thus effectively acting as a Director of Football in Iraq.

after they lost,he was known to lock the team up in a dark prison cells, and sometimes performed "light" torture on the poor souls...

Makes Lowe seem like a real SAINT :D

Ken Bates has never really been very popular amongst fans of other clubs (or his own come to think of it!)

But you're right about Rupert being the most hated ever. I got chatting to a group of lads on a stag do a while back who turned out to be Huddersfield fans, and even they thought Lowe was a complete c*nt!

Every Saints fan I talk to thinks you are simply someone with tiny pudenda. Seriously Stanley do you get off on your persistent use of one line insults as you give the impression you are the type of individual who would prefer to use their fists rather than words to fight your corner. Am I right? At the moment all you are doing that there is a tiny minority of you who provide evdience that the lunatic fringe does exist.

Alan Sugar was a pr!ck;even Lowe got that bit correct.

The nearest chairman to Lowe in terms of ego is possibly Ron Noades ( who did actually put himself in charge of team selection once) or Simon Jordan.

I expect Wimbledon also have a pretty low - no pun intended - opinion of the f^cker who took them to MK as well, and Sam Hamman who wanted to relocate to Dublin.

How many non-Saints fans know Rupert Lowe is chairman, let alone have an opinion on him? Who is chairman of Ipswich, Nottm Forest or Charlton?

You underestimate Lowes Profile. A hell of a lot more Charlton fans Know of Lowe than Saints fans know of Charltons Chairmen.

When you are that much of a Clown the news spreads

Sorry benjii, I tried to steal your thunder..You are my champion.

It's ok. ;)

I actually felt a bit of a tool when I read the OP again because he was quite specific and stated "football chairmen".

On second thoughts though, I make no apology for giving Stanley's post only a cursory read.

Is that an admission, Steve? :smt048

And there was I thinking we were talking about Chairman/CEO's.;)

Are you that bitter that you have to regularly use at least one of your three daily posts stalking me?

In a way I'm quite flattered, not least because I can see how much you being wrong has eaten into you.

I'm sure I said something like this at one point:

"Lowe should be congratulated for dragging us in to the 21st Century, as back at The Dell we in danger of being left behind in the 19th Century. The improvements in ticketing, merchandising, hospitality, etc etc etc right down to an improved view for every spectator should be applauded"

I'll try and resurrect the actual post just to get you even more wound up, because as you know I have only ever criticised Lowe since he rocked up in 1996:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ernie Clay at Fulham !

He wanted to redevelop Craven Cottage and the fans felt that he was selling them 'down the river' (excuse the pun).

He was regularly showered with abuse as he sat in the directors box. I can vouch for this as I was beside him on a number of occasions ! Strangely enough, in private he referred to them as the 'lunatic fringe' (or similar) and pressed on with his plans until the council rejected them out of hand and he sold up instead !!

Many think that of you but it hardly puts you ahead of Peter Sutcliffe in who I most want to die.

How bizarre. This is a debate (allegedly) about who is/was the most hated chairman ever and you have to introduce elements of your hierarchy of who you most want to die. What exactly goes on in your mind?
