eelpie Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Alan Shearer and Iain Dowie Actually, that could work. Shearer needs to learn the trade in a lower division (even lower than Newcastle will be in next season). Dowie would kick players arses, and needs to restart his career. And they would attract decent players too. Plus they have Saints connections. The only draw back is that we really could do with a manager that will commit himself for several seasons, and rebuild from nothing. We need continuity and stability as much as anything. Victor Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 We've just had a new manager thread - so I will repeat my suggestion: Gary Speed. Only trouble is he will certainly be able to get a better position elsewhere and Saints mean nothing to him that would persuade him otherwise. Papa Shango Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Again, if Speed actually wants to get into management why wouldn't he come here if asked? Where else is he going to go? I don't see clubs falling over themselves to get someone totally unproven. Nearly all these people that keep getting mentioned on here, Magilton, Dowie, Tisdale etc would jump at the chance to come here.

Saint Without a Halo Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Much as i would like the idea the truth is If we had them we could't afford a team! assuming we are still in business that is! Actually, that could work. Shearer needs to learn the trade in a lower division (even lower than Newcastle will be in next season). Dowie would kick players arses, and needs to restart his career. bridge too far Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 I think Tisdale would be a good choice (and said so many days ago). But IF Exeter get promoted, why would he want to leave a Div 1 club to go to another Div 1 club? I don't suppose we could pay him more than he gets at Exeter, so what would the attraction be?
Andy_Porter Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Magilton would be a great choice, before Marcus Evans showed up with loads of cash he was doing really well with Ipswich bringing through all their youngsters.

Everyone in football will agree that a financially solvent Southampton (and let's face it we will need one of them before any new manager arrives) are a bigger proposition that Exeter will ever be. The Fat Controller Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Yeah Boothroyd would get us straight back up i reckon. Why do some of you champion this bloke so much... he is no better than Wotte.... he hasn't set the world on fire. We need to get some one in who will do a decent job with no money and someone who doesnt make excuses all of the time. If we are still in business next season I can see Wotte being kept on as boss to try and steady the club - be that good or bad. Window Cleaner Posted 22 April, 2009 Share Posted 22 April, 2009 Saints next season maybe. Why would that be then. Failed at Ipswich despite loads of cash so we have to get him in here where there's no cash.Give over with ex players, none of them are good enough, not even Shearer, he will fail dismally as well. If offered the Saints job under a new regime I'd bet he'd take it. He won't get a better offer than that any time soon.
