Guided Missile Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 ...and Bull sh!t Walks. I would expect the job for today is a quick trip to the bank to organise the transfer of ca £15M of cleared funds into Barclays account in readiness for completion tomorrow. I don't think Fry will be too impressed with grainy photos of Kevin Keegan or a list of potential directors of the new football club, who are all clamouring to play with the new train set, that a mystery buyer has financed for them. In the scheme of things, I will repeat what I have been saying for some time. I will be amazed if a pair of potless dreamers, one admittedly a legend for a fan like me and the other an apparently, charming Irish chancer, arrange the money transfer that will finally complete a deal this week. In preparation for tomorrow's takeover, I will pre-post my grovelling apology, as follows: "In a triumph of hope over financial reality, Pinnacle in the form of Tony Lynam, have organised the financing of a multi-million takeover of Southampton Football Club, managing to convince one of the nicest guys and most gifted footballers in Saints' history to lend his support. I for one would like to offer my deepest gratitude and congratulations for succeeding in this venture and look forward to supporting the new club as I have done in the past, with a spirit of hope and expectancy. I deeply apologise for doubting the financial capability of Pinnacle and Tony Lynam in particular, in succeeding against all odds and can only say that my scepticism was fuelled by the recent experiences of being a Saints fan, with so many false dawns". I am sure that many on this site will wish to add their congratulations and/or apologies, in the same way, when tomorrow comes...

Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I will concede GM, that from supporting Saints I continually fall into the trap of believing what I really want to believe. I still chuckle to myself when I think back to how I honestly believed that part of the attraction of Southampton to Paul Allen was that he could park his boat outside the ground. It all seemed so logical at the time. The only reason I am optimistic now is that these fellas have put down half a million.

Frank's cousin Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 Cynicism and scepticism - we have all been through the mill in recent years and especially these last few months, so no surprise that many are naturally waivering towards those two bedfellows... I have to admit that i too would be feeling exactly the same but for the fact that I know NSS very well and his asociation with Tony Lynam via the charity he runs, and the positive vibes hes has told me about have kept me on the positive side - I dont expect a huige windfall, I dont expect millions suddenly available, I dont expect a sudden shoot up the table, because i dont believe the backer will be willing or (stupid enough) to waste money - what I do expect is survival and a new start - it will be in the hands of the new board to to stabalise and use the 'clean slate' to build a stable club well run financially within its means - that should be enough for us right now and with luck and solid support (given our capacity and facilities) we should be able to grow and progress - alot will depend on the appettite fans have for L1 football - our biggest income stream by far will be form gate receipts so it is now up to us to show we are the club we think think we are and teh fans we would like to believe. Saint Fan CaM Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 The last hurdle must be in sight IMO - what would be the point of submitting names to the FL if they were not near the end of the journey? Cannot honestly see them bothering to do that unless they were almost ready to go - once the Board is in place and accepted, the staff are next - thats means management and players for MLT. Maybe another party would care to pay the non-refundable deposit and enjoy their own period of exclusivity...! Begbies would allow Pinacle a few more days to complete the deal if completion appeared imminent and there were no problems. They would not give a new period of exclusivity to a different party in those circumstances - only if they reasonably believed that the Pinacle deal was not going to happen or that the other bidder was as sound and could proceed to compeltion quicker. The few posters who seem to know are not as postive today as they were yesterday even I've not spoken to TL since the weekend (in Guernsey) but at that time he was still confident that the deal would be concluded this Friday. Of course, things may have changed since then, but I have no reason to believe they have and so far as I know they've been very busy putting various things in place to enable them to move forward rapidly as soon as they take control formally. Sorry I can't be more specific than that, but with a deal to conclude and, no doubt, numerous meeting taking place this week, TL is hardly going to stop every five minutes to give me a running commentary on progress. There is a lot in what you say but a lot of people could give proof of funds without the intention or ability to use those funds. As to the knowledge of the mega rich backer, the is a total red herring for the exclusivity or even the deal itself from the Administrators point of view. Like yourself I cannot see the Administrator placing himself in this position but a lot of the small peices of information coming out, just do not make sense. For the weird and wonderful things do not neccessarily have to make sense but i will be very glad when the deal has been done, even with no investment. For the weird and wonderful things do not neccessarily have to make sense but i will be very glad when the deal has been done, even with no investment. Then put it another way: why would two guys "without a pot to **** in" (TL & MLT) put up several hundred thousand pounds -- non-refundable -- in order to get a 3 week exclusivity period at the end of wghich, lacking a rich backer with the funds and determination to close the deal, they will walk away poorer by those several hundred thousand and looking like a pair of prats??? Does that make sense to you? Because it doesn't to me! The only way I can see Lynam & LeTiss going as far as they have is if they really and truly do have a rich investor behind them with the money to finish things. The alternative is that they are self-destructive idiotic posers, which I suppose Lynam may be (I know nothing about him), but Le Tiss certainly is not. So that is two ways now in which I find GM's skepticism incomprehensible. We'll find out tomorrow, anyway.
