Pompey Takeover Saga

I usually come on here when I need cheering up and rarely post - but I hope they haven't read the article about Leicester in the Guardian this morning

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/15/leicester-city-dreamers-dream-makers-claudio-ranieri

I enjoyed reading it but this paragraph made me think that our fishy friends will now believe that they have the right credentials to be future premier champions

Jamie Vardy’s racism, caught on CCTV at a late-night casino, is not a stain that will wash out easily and let us not forget it was Leicester going into administration, wiping out £50m of debt, that shocked the Football League into imposing 10-point penalties for any clubs planning similar tactics. Leicester owed £6m in tax at the time and perhaps it would be a decent gesture, on the verge of hitting the jackpot, if they remembered the £16,000 they owed to East Midlands Ambulance Service or the £4,415 that should have been paid to St John Ambulance for providing first-aid volunteers. They have never seen a penny – and nobody can possibly say Leicester cannot afford to put it right.

This seems a good time to post this quote from Corporate Ho/Banker on POL a couple of days ago

They've got pretty lucky the last couple of summers shipping out players and replacing them with cheaper options but hard to see how they can keep repeating that process. Got to bite them one summer surely

interesting comments by a number of Pompey fans complaining about West Ham's financial advantage/taxpayer rip off etc regarding the Hammers Olympic Stadium deal

Stones/Glass Houses come to mind!!

It was`nt pompeys fault, it was the fa, the owners, the blah blah blah

Why is a League 2 club bothered by a team 4 divisions above them gaining some sort of advantage?

Presumably because FIFA and the FA were going to finance the Maradona Harbourdome until the underwater casino, Saab dealership and Mr Clive consortium stepped in and stopped them hosting World Cup games.

I see another 18,400 sell-out saw them consolidate their position as joint leaders, or should that be joint champions now?

I laughed my tits off at the score today. I had a little look at 80 minutes and thought oh well. looked back 10 minutes later to see they had ****ed it up.

Portsmouth aside i'd like to see Plymouth go up so that made it even sweeter.

I can't see them finishing third tbh. They not only have to win their games, they also need 3 other teams to drop points.

L2 the hardest to get relegated from and the easiest to win promotion from , so it acts as a backstop for fallen, once illustrious clubs. This is their 3rd season there and if theres any justice it will also be their fourth.

12 points in the season left. 8 teams are mathematically capable of overtaking them.

Reality is that they just need to win the next two games and they'll be safe into the play offs. However given their penchant for royally f*cking things up I think we shouldn't discount anyone who could overhaul them on points just yet.

York are pretty much gone so there's no pressure on them - they could really screw things up for the skates

Wycombe should be an interesting match as they'll be looking to ensure their playoff spot

Wimbledon will be the same

Hartlepool have nothing to play for really

So the two wins are there against York and Hartlepool as long as they don't f*ck it up.....

Missed that, sorry.

Tbh, Northampton are away and gone but I believe when a team is in that position it generates this kind of 'let's see how many points we can get'

I wonder what the points record for League a Two is and if Northampton are close to it.

Whichever say, I don't think the skates gave enough to beat them

"Strikes in injury-time against Stevenage, Carlisle and Exeter have agonisingly deprived them of triumphs.

Overall, that is now 13 goals conceded in the final 10 minutes of fixtures during the campaign".

Looks like the Training Day Fry Ups are working out well then ;-)

Happily, those last-gasp losses have kept them out of the automatic promotion places and in L2 bridesmaid territory. I can live with that

Don't discount the Ricky Holmes factor. He will be desperate to beat the DFCSBs.

I didn't think I'd see pompey on MotD2 ever again so it was a pleasant surprise to see them get a brief mention last night.

For those that missed it, the credits were dedicated to relegated teams who are out there somewhere and who have never returned.

The Bradfords, Barnsleys and Swindons of this world - plus smaller clubs.

They'll beat York who are absolute garbage, even though York will have the misfortune of getting relegated if they lose that match, which is on Tuesday night. York are 11 points behind Newport who are the only team they can catch, and they have 12 points to play for. Unfortunately York having to win at home will play into the predictable Skate hands, as they'll score a couple of the counter, and probably run up a cricket score as York collapse their way out of the league (and cost me the £600 I had on Newport in the process).

Hartlepool are on a decent run of form under a new manager and could well cause them problems, but the Skates are bolted on for a play-off place - same number of points to automatic as to missing out altogether. They'll come 6th and lose to Plymouth or Accrington over two legs in the semi.

Newport having lost their last 6 straight whilst scoring only one goal puts their win at Fratton into a whole new perspective, btw. FWIW I'm going to their almost certain "only the third worst team in the League" survival celebration at Luton on Saturday, they will lose and about 100 away fans will be there. I was able to count them on a freeze frame from Channel 5 for the game at Stevenage on the weekend - and yet most likely Portsmouth will STILL be in the same division as them next season. :D

Problem is, we have a team that is better suited to L1 than L2, so we need to just dig deep and get out this vile league.

Aha - I like it. Joint top and too good for promotion!

Just read the Football League Awards and those b*stards at Football league headquarters have bottled it at their own awards. Once again Portsmouth were too bestest a club and they were too frightened to give them one award this year. They should have at least started the Bestest supported club in league 2 award or the Fattiest Pipe Award. Shame on you Football league Shame on you.

A perfect demonstration of the massive chip on your average skates shoulder tbh. Long may they remain there.

‘We have a lot of people who are either on very low paid jobs or who are living on the state pension,’ said the Lib Dem councillor.

He added there were many people working in the city on high incomes, but explained they tended to commute out of Portsmouth."

I wonder why that would be? :D

As for the "team better suited to League One" comment above, what in the actual hell? There's practically no difference between football from Championship to non-League other than the likelihood of mistakes being made. It's not like they're harbouring some ball-playing wonders who would benefit from a more tactical game, they literally only have one tactic anyway, and it consists of them running fast at the opposition when they have the ball.
