Oldknow and co in no rush

well, with no manager and no new players we are going to get spanked by Ajax. Im worried that these pre season fixtures are being used up by the reserve squad we have, not the new owners fault though. Am however looking forward to welcoming him as well as cheering KD :-)

That's all well and good but wouldn't it have been better to keep wotte around until a replacement is found?

Bit weird isn't it ? I would have though the logical thing to do would have been to keep him until a replacement comes in.

Ass far as I ws aware he was on a rollign contract ???

Agree but I read somewhere Wotte was talking to a player he wanted to sign and I guess AO thought it unfair to prolong the pretence. I hope Henderson is concentrating on fitness because he can't really do a lot more.

As one commenter said, we waited months, what's another week ?

I see this as another consolidation season rather than one where we make a genuine push on for the CCC anyway.

Agree..just catching up the minus 10 point deduction and a mid table spot will be an acheivment I feel.

I would have thought that they would have made some tentative enquiries/arrangements during the buying process of the club, I hope that something will be announced this week.

I hope that the team don't become an embarrassment for our new owner in front of his friends this Saturday V Ajax, I think that it also important that the stadium has a party atmosphere throughout the Ajax match whatever the score.

To me it's a total f*ck up.

We just can't start the League 1 season with the team we have and we can't do anything about that until we get a new manager.

Taking too long as did the take-over(or buy out)

I would rather they take time to find a decent manager than rush the decision, I agree it has been left a bit late, but that is not their fault, they got on with this on their first day.

I also doubt it has taken them all weekend to draw up criteria, they have probably drawn up a shortlist and then phoned those on the list to see if a) they are potentially interested and b) arrange a meeting

I thought they could have worked out the sort of manager they were looking for before signing the contract.

Perhaps they did just feel we are in limbo at the moment but hopefully that will change quite soon

That would be my only comment and the point I was making in my original post.

I've got no problem if the recruitment process takes another week or ten days because getting the right man in place is the thing and I've never bought into the "we've lost pre season, we're doomed" thing. Didn't do Roy Keane any harm.

I just smile when Oldknow is quoted (as have many chief execs have at many clubs over the years) about getting the criteria sorted, as if that bit is tremendously time consuming.

You're talking hours, not days to do that and it is a conversation that could have happened before taking over, especially as they had clearly had a conversation about sacking Wotte.

But we'll get a man we are all generally happy with, pretty sure of that.

Personally i'd have sacked Wotte like they did. It was the honourable thing to do. To keep him on and then sack him would have been a bit out of order.

Indeed - hopefully it has given him the best possible chance of finding another post before the start of the next season or even that job in Egypt

I suspect this means that WGS has thought about it and said 'No'

I have a sneaky feeling he will take over but wants to bring in players without the hassle of every agent phoning him up trying to flog him players.

He's fine tuning us off the scenes IMHO with Henderson taking the fitness levels to where he wants it.

Agreed. They made the decision and acted on it straight away. Keeping Wotte on would have been a sham, and a pretty unpleasant one at that.

Looking at the Echo piece, it's clear that they want to make the appointment as soon as they can, but they won't be losing sleep if it takes longer than a few days. All of which sounds fine to me.

Agree with that !

Markus and Co seem very adept decision makers and I am more than happy to trust their judgement to do whatever is right for the club.

I hope you are right Sir, that would be a better explanation for his presence at the training ground than his back problem anyway

He's a BILLIONAIRE at the end of the day. Making good decisions and judgements is what he does best. Like you I have complete faith in Mr Liebherr and his people.

According to the papers today Stoke are hoping to beat Wolves to the signature of Lallana with a bid of 750k. It would be better for all to get a manager in asap and try and get our squad sorted.

It would be ideal to get him in for Saturday and then he has 3 weeks before the season starts to bring in a few. Although Ajax is a good friendly we are probably going to get a right run around which maybe a good thing as it will open everyones eyes as to where we really are and what needs to be done.

Pretty much the same sentiments I had in my "honeymoon" thread. Wottes sacking was inevitable because they need to be able to show candidates around and also they could not sanction any of his plans r.e. new signings. Keeping patient but still concerned about the time left to sort out the team.

I agree completely with this point. In fact I think the worse we do in pre-season, the better we do. I remember having a good pre-season under Sturrock.... and we know what happened then!

mmmm... makes sense. Then when he's announced as manager he will have his shopping list already sorted.

I think this is a smokescreen

I'm convinced they've identified who thay want, and they are either locked in negotiations with them, or are persuading a club to allow him to speak to us

Under promise and over deliver ...Its a great format used by ML

Thoroughly agree with you Col. Strachan's not my first choice but the fact Henderson's been put in charge to get on with the build up shows to me that someone has big confidence that he'd do okay in preparing the squad. That points to Gordon who will be quietly preparing behind the scenes for recruitment whilst still enjoying his wee break.

Hi.

I've not revealed this before now but I'm Gordon Strachan's milkman.

I went to deliver his four pints of gold top as usual this morning and noticed that his delivery from Saturday was still on the doorstep.

Anyone know if he's gone on holiday or not?

Thanks,

Ernie

I wonder if they will still be in no rush if we get well and truly stuffed by Ajax in front of Markus and his friends.

To me it's a total f*ck up.

I think some realism is required. We are a League 1 team now, saturday's friendly is against a potential Champions League team, who themselves will be in the early stages of pre-season.

We have 3 more weeks after te Ajax game before the season starts, and pre-season is all about getting the fitness levels up. Almost all teams don't find their feet until 4 or 5 games into the season, irrespective of their pre-season build up, purely because there is no substitute for competitive matches which won't start until 8th August.

Even if we do lose heavily on saturday, it won't affect anything.

The year we got to the play offs are pre-season was hardly world shattering but we still performed when it mattered.

We will be playing League 1 teams, who will not be as strong as the teams we played in CCC, therefore many of our inadequate squad last season, which was not helped by all the off field issues, will be capable at this level, and with a few new signings we will be one of the most competitive teams in this division even with the 10 point deduction.

Let's start having a bit of faith, our new owner has already indicated that he will spend money on signings so lets just enjoy the ride and create a fantastic atmosphere at SMS and get behind the team.

I agree ... I've been saying that

After the euphoria of being "saved" by Leibherr, things really have stalled IMHO

So Oldknow says " no rush" ... really .... surprise to me

Only WEEKS before the start of the Div 1 season

Players being SOLD

NONE coming IN

NO Manager ... ( with repect to Henderson, " Caretakers" DO NOT WORK )

Players need to know a PERMANENT figurehead is in place, for stability if nothing else

All we know at the moment is that we are NOT going to get a "Class" Manager like Strachan ... if we were, he would already be installed

I still believe that Leibherr has NOT been able to get who HE wanted, and I don't believe all this Oldknow garbage of "No rush"

We may have been "saved" as a Club, but even the most neutral of observers would say we are already in for a very torrid baptism into life in Div !

Getting a Manager appointed is vital ... NOW Mr Oldknow ...... not when you can get round to it

Nothing new in the article - won't be rushed etc etc - personally neither would I if I was in AO's shoes. The decision has to be the right one if thats WGS great if not then it will be someone else of a reasonably high standing.

What is amazing me is that the normal ITK's don't seem to have a clue either. Sounds as if the whole club have been NDA'd. ;-)
