RonManager Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Thought I'd celebrate my 400th post by starting my first thread. I shall do no more than ask the obvious questions - Who's going, what's the crowd likely to be, possible team line-ups, any new signings by then? eurosaint Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I reckon that after the Ajax performance and without the freebies there will be a very low turnout ! I hope that most (like me) are keeping the powder dry until Aug 8th when the 'real deal' comes to town !!

St David Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I'm going, the club needs it's fans to and it's a tenner so I can make it. Got my season ticket and looking forward to the start of the season but hope the Hearts will give us the chance at a first look over some new signings. CWD Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I'll be at Lords. Its a shame that they fall on the same day because I would love to have seen my two teams battle it out! Also want to see Pardew in action on the sidelines and see what impact he's made

diggers Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I remember our trip to Bucharest from Heathrow had quite a few Hearts fans on their way to a Waffer cup game. - To our disgust, (and it very nearly kicked off at 35,000ft) a few of them had Hearts/Pompey badges on. Can't remember the tie up between them but sure they said there was one. So, have the fishy one's got a game Sat? could well decide to support their Sweaty brothers? SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 I'm going and looking forward to it big time for three reasons: 1. I am taking my three and a half year old daughter to her first ever football match. She is quite mature for her age and I think she is now starting to get to the age that she will appreciate it. As it is only a pound I thought it would be a good chance to see how she handles it. 2. I have only been to a match at St Mary's twice before as I live up north so, as I am down visiting my parents on holiday, I thought it was too good a chance to miss. 3. I am keen to support Saints in the new era and to see how things are beginning to take shape in the early days of AP's managerial reign. Anyone know if there will be a family centre area for this match and if it is open to anyone with kids or only members?

Should be on general sale like the rest of the ground.

Teddy Nutkins Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 I will be there watching to see what influence the new manager has had on the players that played against Ajax. I am hoping to see 4-4-2, a defence that doesn't sit in front of the goalkeeper all game and the desire to attack.A couple of new signings would be good also. A.P. will have had 5 days to change some attitudes and bad habits, i am hopefull.

RonManager Posted 21 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 21 July, 2009 It will definitely be intriguing to see the new manager in action and how he has changed the formation and tactics. I bet it won't be anything like the 4-5-1 we played against Ajax. Plenty of width and 3/4 players breaking fast out of the middle supporting the striker. Colinjb Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 Would like to see the team line up like this: GK: Kelvin DR: Murty DL: Harding DC: Perry DC: Thomas MR: Thompson ML: Mills MC: Wotton MC: Schneiderlin S: Lallana S: John Still weak in the centre of the park, but as good a team as any right now. I do like the look of the back 4...

I'd like to see Gillett and Schneiderlin tried together, John and Raziak tried together but with Saganowski wide right (as for Poland)
Clifford Nelson Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 I'll be there. Mrs Nelson won't, but I'm bringing a mate instead. I wouldn't miss this one for the world. What we will see on Saturday will show us what we can expect in terms of tactics for the rest of the season: Lone striker? Wingers? How will he employ Lallana? What will he do with Gillett, Wotton and Schneiderlin? Etc. The players who haven't played for their lives until the end won't be seen again for a long time, if ever. Hopelessly optimistic I think we might actually win it. If not I won't mind if we have given it a bl**dy good go.

How will he employ Lallana? What will he do with Gillett, Wotton and Schneiderlin? Etc. . I think that when Pardew's squad nears completion we will start to see some versatility in tactics to suit different oppositions. One of the problems last year was that after a few weeks other teams sussed us. An experienced manager would not allow that to happen. I'm so looking forward to seeing how AP's tactics develop. Bourno Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 Lords for me +2. What a shame this has been scheduled for the same day. I hope Markus knows ths and is not too upset with the turnout thinking that we lose to Ajax and then desert the team. RonManager Posted 21 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 21 July, 2009 Just been in touch with some old Hearts friends from my Edinburgh days who reckon there could be a decent turn out of away fans, on a west country mini-break, doubling with the Plymouth match on the Tuesday.
