Andyb1 Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 12.55 Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has offered Ryan Smith the chance to earn a contract at Selhurst Park following the winger's release by Southampton. Thought that was quite amusing.....
Junior Mullet Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 If I had his natural ability and my heart I'd be a great footballer. He always looked half asleep when he played.

benjii Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 I will get slated for this, but given the right coaching and being played on the left wing, not the right, I think he could have been a tremendous asset to us in League One. We do not have a single regular first team player with any pace at the moment.

Give it to Ron Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 Better than any options available to us at the moment. Disagree no better than Boyle. We need players with pace and skill and an ability to pass to our players. Smith couldn't even get in Millwalls first team he was a reserve team player that was his level. SuperSAINT Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 Yeah, I would've kept him without a doubt in league 1. If Holmes can stay fit this season, he'll be a big player for us.

Same with Holmes i think hes a right footer. he always cuts inside Was frustrating against Watford, he looked quite dangerous every time he got the ball then he just cut inside or held on to it too long and the attack would break down. Had he been on the left he might have made an impact.

Could see him being a decent player under a manager like Warnock.
samoakley Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 Last season i thought he was awfull in most the games he played in but he had stupid pace and would tear people up with it the best way to describe him is the **** version of aarron lennon and i think he would be very good in league one but hes never gona be more than a average championship player for a bottom half team. Hopkins Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 Agreed. I challenge anyone to name a productive piece of play he made in any game last season for us. Skinned John O'Shea against United when he came on. Made him look a right boob. He has that pace and ability to take a player on. His end product and consistency was up for debate. He's like Jermaine Pennant. He'll go from club to club, flattering to deceive, occasionally making full backs fall on their arse and be talked about as someone who could tear teams apart, and probably will do it in the odd game, in fact he could be considered a match winner in some big games and he can make fans get excited when he's on the ball but ultimately he won't do it consistently enough and will be moved on somewhere else. That's what wingers like Smith do. Look at Routledge, Pennant etc
eelpie Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 We were awful last year and he was by far the worst. Apalling footballer. Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 (edited) I would like to know why my perfectly reasonable 1st post on this thread was deleted???? Anyway - try again - Smith was never the poor player he was made out to be IMO. He was played in the wrong position by the Dutch fools and even then made a reasonable contribution. He was certainly world-class when compared to the likes of Pulis who is a complete waste of a jersey.
