Katalinic Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 (edited) Raynes was being monitored by Liverpool and WBA according to the player profiles on their official site. Pilkington is a strange one though as he only made his debut in January. http://www.stockportcounty.com/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10419~32520,00.html http://www.stockportcounty.com/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10419~43984,00.html Edited 8 August, 2009 by Katalinic
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 Raynes is a decent CB, quite tall. Don't know anything about Pilkington though.

Snowballs2 Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 Its great to see some coming into the club. Lets hope that this is to be the season of recovery, not too much pressure on the team in early games, give support to all at the club not just the players. dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 Raynes - injury history not more than 25ish games in a season so sounds like a promising and experienced youngster as cover for Thomas/Perry which pushes Olly back into emergency cover category while he learns what football really is about - wise move. Pilkington - would hope he is a wide midfield player where we do need cover. Would still want to see a wise old head or two coming in.

Professor Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 Stockport are in Administration so as we well know, they are likely to be selling their best players. Pilkington could be one for the future, but Raynes appears to be injury prone. As its strikers we need, maybe Pardew will look at Peter Thompson. Prolific scorer in Irish football, didn't too much last season for Stockport and was out for half the season with a serious chest infection, but fit since April. At 25, may have the maturity AP is looking for.
shurlock Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 So much for experience, then. One is 19; the other is 21. I distinctly thought Pards wanted a bit of experience - there are so many coded references to having too many youngsters in his interviews. Centre Back in the Claus mould rather than the Jaidi mould. Saint Charlie Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 Raynes has quite a lot of experience, 120 odd games for a 21 year old. Was wanted by Boro under McJerk and also Liverpool when he was 17.

dellgirl Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 They may be young now but if they are the real deal and AP can see potential as well, they could be key players at the height of their powers in 5 years time when we are heading for the top again and have not cost silly money. Under Weststand Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 Seen a fair bit of Raynes playing for County at this level he is a quality CB, & has also filled in for County all across the back four & has also filled in in midfield when its been required. He is a good pro & a good leader on the pitch(is team captain & club captain), would be a good acquisition. As for Pilikington as said don't know much about him but he's scored a few in pre-season & if he's half as good as his brother was for county then he may well turn out to be a good signing too. rallyboy Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 if we do pick up a couple of Stockport players it would mean we have progressed from victim to vulture, and we are the ones now preying on a club coming out of administration. S-Clarke Posted 8 August, 2009 Share Posted 8 August, 2009 If you can't attract the championship level palyers (which we've been struggling to do tbf)...then the next best move is to sign the best players at this level...who also have a chance to improve and play at an even higher level. Raynes is v good btw. Remember seeing an article on him a year or 2 ago as one of the lower leagues ''best prospects''.
